Best gift voucher for young couple?

Hi everyone, just looking for some advice re a suitable gift voucher as a wedding gift for a young couple. We live overseas and due to COVID are unable to attend their wedding, but would like to send a card and a gift voucher. My husband hasn’t lived in the UK for over 20 years and is out of touch, and although I’ve spent a lot of time there, I also have no idea where young couples in the UK like to shop.

If you were/are in your 20’s, a homeowner and getting married, where would you like to spend £100? Thank you everyone Flowers

A hotel stay
Fancy restaurant
Do they need anything for house? John Lewis etc

Camomila · 02/06/2021 09:33

we got lots of M&S and John Lewis vouchers for our wedding, another good one would have been IKEA but I don't know if they do vouchers.

John Lewis is a very good idea.

Amazon Gift Card.

Lollypop701 · 02/06/2021 10:05

Amazon

Amazon

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 02/06/2021 10:09

Definitely not John Lewis, so overpriced.

PinkPlantCase · 02/06/2021 10:10

John Lewis or Amazon

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 02/06/2021 10:12

tbh we just give a cheque or cash (depends on which country the wedding is).
We want them to be able to get exactly what they want and vouchers don't cover everything

murbblurb · 02/06/2021 10:13

Cheque or a note asking for their bank account details so you can send a transfer. Vouchers are worthless if the company goes bust and any company can go bust.

TeanupFlutter · 02/06/2021 10:14

I think I'd prefer to send a cheque. A gift voucher ties you to a shop where you may not want to spend the money/have to top up with more etc. I guess it depends on their circumstances, it would be a shame to receive a John Lewis voucher if the £100 could go towards something you really needed from say Argos or on a special item from a local trades person or even towards an essential job on the house/garden or plants etc.

YouLookSoCool · 02/06/2021 10:15

I'd just give money (bank transfer?) or if you specifically want to give a gift card agree with John Lewis

readingismycardio · 02/06/2021 10:17

If it has to be a gift card I agree with JL. It might be pricy, but that's the point! I'd get something beautiful, that I usually wouldn't spend the money on.

John Lewis; we got £100 voucher when we got married and got a lovely crockery set we’d never have afforded otherwise amd it’s lovely to think of it as a wedding gift

EversoDelighted · 02/06/2021 10:25

If you are sending a cheque, check the names on the bank account first, I had to return a few written out in error to Mr and Mrs Hissurname.

cushioncovers · 02/06/2021 10:26

Amazon or the supermarket they use.

cactuscushion · 02/06/2021 10:48

Netflix

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 02/06/2021 11:07

Amazon. So much more choice and convenience.

I don’t know many young adults who shop at John Lewis so wouldn’t buy a card from that particular store.

Definitely this. Or they will ending buying something they don’t quiet like or need just to use up the voucher.
iduno · 02/06/2021 11:28

I'd have liked the cash a lot better. We already had everything for our house. We wld just be using the voucher to spend it not necessarily use it for something we need or want.

Ivy48 · 02/06/2021 11:31

I hate getting a John Lewis voucher. I’m 26, their homewards not my taste, I find it overpriced and often end up having to add my own money into a voucher. Either cash/bank transfer etc or perhaps a nice restaurant, Miller and Carter?. Most young couples have things already for
Their home and might appreciate money for a date night or two a bit more. I know we would

Ivy48 · 02/06/2021 11:32

Also no to Amazon.

toto23 · 02/06/2021 11:41

Amazon or Next would be great.

I can easily spend Amazon vouchers, Next vouchers are great for bedding and towels .

I struggled spending vouchers for Marks and Spencer, I don't like their bedding or towels , but it's complete personal preference.
