I had this for about 9 months before I got any proper treatment, ended up in hospital really ill and they thought it was pelvic inflammatory disease and gave 2 weeks double antibiotics. That helped a lot and it stopped most of symptoms.

Dnika · 31/05/2021 04:28

@Silkiecats please can u refer back to the doctor and ask the name and duration of ur treatment please even what they gave u when u went to the hospital. Please don't leave out any details. I already feel my kidneys hurting

You cant copy someone elses treatment. Im an A+E nurse, and I wouldnt be upset if you came to my department with this.

PID? Fistula? I cant diagnose you. Go to A+E if you can

Silkiecats · 31/05/2021 13:12

It's difficult - I had symptoms like this for 9 months in the UK before I was given any help and I saw my GP a lot but they did not know and like you I was having clear tests - sometimes utis were showing and I would be given 3 days antibiotics which helped and I would be better for a week then I was very sick again with discharge, fever, flu like symptoms and I couldn't work. My GP referred me to urology but they didn't help much - I had a cystoscopy which showed no fistula and another test that urethra was blocked but they lost the second test so I didn't get anywhere with that.

Eventually I was so ill I got my husband to take me to A&E. They also did not know but said I was showing a temp and an infection and they thought PID was most likely cause though swabs were clear. So they gave me 14 days double antibiotics, doxycycline and metronidozale. These stopped the discharge and the fevers.

They also wanted to know I had been checked for cervical cancer (smear test) which I had and was OK but if you are not up to date with smear tests its worth having one. If your doctor can't help then the hospital I found best if that is possible. The hospital were not certain in my case but the good thing about antibiotics is they can stop quite a few things if its bacterial. But you really need a proper evaluation by a doctor / hospital.

Silkiecats · 31/05/2021 13:17

With the urine tests are they just doing a dipstick or sending it to hospital? I had a clear dipstick test with NHS and same day I had a private doctors appointment and they sent test to hospital and it showed a bad infection but a rare one.

How on earth can you see what’s coming out of your urethra and vagina? I’m pretty certain you’re mistaken. It sounds like you’ve got recurring cystitis. Do you have ‘rough’ sex?
Dnika · 31/05/2021 14:55

@Silkiecats thank you. @Soontobe60 I tested where it was coming from using a tampon. Also I know my body and can feel where is discharging.

You put a tampon up your urethra? Shock

funnylittlefloozie · 31/05/2021 15:02

A tampon wouldnt go into your urethra. It literally wouldnt fit. Also, sorry if this seems rude but have you considered the possibility of a sexually transmitted infection? STIs can cause very peculiar itching and discharges.

JackieTheFart · 31/05/2021 15:06

Blood from your urethra is extremely unlikely to be menstrual blood. That combined with pain sounds like some sort of infection for sure but I couldn’t possibly say what.

WeAllHaveWings · 31/05/2021 15:11

I think we can safely assume the OP used a tampon and still got discharge which she thinks is from her urethra

OP you really need to see a Dr.

Singinghollybob · 31/05/2021 15:13

I think maybe the OP put the tampon in her vagina, and when she still bled, concluded it was coming from the urethra?

AreYouCursed · 31/05/2021 15:15

Have you been evaluated for endometriosis of the bladder? A gynaecologist specialising in endometriosis would be the person to consult about this.

Soontobe60 · 31/05/2021 15:15

As you can see from the attached photo, it’s impossible for you to lose menstrual blood from your urethra. If there were a connection from your bladder to your uterus, then urine would be collecting in your uterus all the time meaning you’d be permanently urinating from your uterus 24/7. This would have been happening from birth. Unless you’ve pierced a hole in your bladder, through your pelvis and then into your uterus.

AreYouCursed · 31/05/2021 15:16

Sorry, meant to say this could cause bleeding from the urethra during your period I think.

SinkGirl · 31/05/2021 15:17

No she means she’s used a tampon and is losing blood elsewhere.

Blood from the urethra and / or back passage during periods can be symptoms of endometriosis - have they done any investigations (cystoscopy, laparoscopy etc)?

AreYouCursed · 31/05/2021 15:17

No @soontobe60, it's not impossible if the person has endometriosis of the bladder and/or inside of the ureters. There doesn't need to be a connection between the organs for this to happen.

SinkGirl · 31/05/2021 15:19

This is incorrect. Blood can be caused by endometriosis deposits in the urinary tract.
AreYouCursed · 31/05/2021 15:20

Cross post @SinkGirl! I wish people wouldn't post misinformation!

SinkGirl · 31/05/2021 15:58

Especially when they do so with a tone that the OP must be stupid / not understand anatomy.

It’s distressing enough to have symptoms like this without the sneering.

If the OP is losing blood from somewhere other than her vagina during periods, she needs to be investigated for endometriosis.

Some sufferers bleed from their rectums, belly buttons, surgical scars, noses. Endometriosis has been found in every part of the body except the spleen. Including eyes and brain.
