I'm all for sustainability but... *shudder*

Wooden cutlery. Just touching it makes my skin crawl. As for that horrible dry, draggy, graty feeling in your mouth when you try to eat with them; ugh, makes me want to vomit.

I'm 100% against single use plastic but I got my lunch today (salad takeaway) to eat in the park and I got given a wooden fork. It was discarded after one mouthful and I had to eat a bloody tossed salad with my fingers. At one point I just put my face in the box.

I know the answer is my own cutlery but omg how can ANYONE eat off those horrible things. I can't be alone can I? Surely there's a market for nice shiny cutlery made of something biodegradable. Maybe a boiled sweet shaped like a fork?

I also remembered I used to hate finishing ice lollies because of the need to lick the horrible stick or those nasty little wood forks from the chippy.

I'm shuddering just at the thought of it.

It's weird isn't it the way things taste wrong according to cutlery or crockery (drinking cold drinks from a mug) . My worst thing is paper straws - cannot abide them.

Pandoraslastchance · 27/05/2021 14:11

Wooden chip forks make me feel ill. I've got a silicone straw on a pouch and a cheap metal fork that I keep in my handbag.

FeistySheep · 27/05/2021 14:22

There is such a thing as vegetable plastic. Lots of brands, but one of them is called Vegware if I remember correctly. It's made out of vegetable waste, like the middle of corn on the cob I think. Looks and feels just like plastic, so it's possible you are actually getting that from some takeaway shops and not realising. I would guess they'll be the smaller/independent/eco type shops though, so depends where you buy your lunch from! It does cost more to buy, so lots of shops won't use it I guess.

Glastonbury had biodegradable potato starch cutlery back in the day which was lovely. Sturdy, smooth.

I agree wooden cutlery is rank.

Wannabangbang · 27/05/2021 14:36

I'm the same with paper straws, they never last a whole drink and literally biodegrade in my mouth to mulch. Disgusting and washable straws make me worry about germs as so hard to clean. What i want is see through glass straws

FOJN · 27/05/2021 14:39

Check out sistema cutlery to go, it's reusable plastic cultlery in its own plastic case and costs about 5 or 6 pounds.

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/05/2021 14:51

I don't like them but I up with them, they just don't feel nice. I have been know to take my own cutlery though and I do have some bamboo straws.

Faranth · 27/05/2021 14:55

I thought this was going to be about the article I saw on the news today. Reuseable coffee cup made from...

...

Used chewing gum!

Fuckitsstillraining · 27/05/2021 14:57

I bought a stainless steel cutlery set (c/w straw) from Wish, it came with its own case and I keep it in my handbag. I detest wooden cutlery and paper straws

butterpuffed · 27/05/2021 15:01

At one point I just put my face in the box.

Well, that's a bit strange Shock

PeteWicksSexyPirate · 27/05/2021 15:01

The soggy, paper straws at maccys touching my teeth feels like nails down a chalkboard 🥴

SausageRoll2020 · 27/05/2021 15:02

Whatever you do OP, don't buy a wooden toothbrush.

Even though they are better for the environment and might look lovely in that over priced toothbrush holder which perfectly coordinates with your new bathroom...

OrangeSharked · 27/05/2021 15:08

I just carry my own bamboo set around now.

Soup is the worst with the wooden spoon, its so hard to eat without your tongue touching the wood Envy

Mmmcheese89 · 27/05/2021 15:19

I have my own steel set. About 3 quid off Amazon. Comes with a little pouch. I actually have 2. One at work because now one ever washes up, and one in my handbag for out and about.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 27/05/2021 15:27

@BikeRunSki I was just coming on to say about wooden or bamboo toothbrushes! I can't have them, I gag as soon as I try to brush my teeth with them Envy

Jenthefredo · 27/05/2021 15:27

At one point I just put my face in the box

Op...I think I love you 😍 ❤

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/05/2021 15:38

I've just bought some bamboo toothbrushes, not looking forward to trying them now.

PattyPan · 27/05/2021 15:41

I used bamboo toothbrushes for a couple of years before I got an electric toothbrush. I didn’t like them at first but I did get used to it!

Newgirls · 27/05/2021 15:44

All those single use forks made of anything is madness. Just take one from home and wash it. Think how many things won’t end up in landfill/incinerated!

DreadingItBadly · 27/05/2021 15:46

You ate the salad with your fingers and put your face into the box? Hmm

That's way more gross than a wooden fork.

HoldingTheDoor · 27/05/2021 15:49

Have you considered a nosebag?

murbblurb · 27/05/2021 15:51

Isn't it bleeding obvious to carry some reusable cutlery, take it home and er, wash it?

osbertthesyrianhamster · 27/05/2021 15:55

My son has autism and can't abide the feeling of that wooden cutlery or paper straws so he keeps a Sistema set of travel cutlery in his rucksack and a silicon straw. I like them so much I keep a set in my handbag now, too.

Pinkycheeks · 27/05/2021 15:57

I don’t like silicone anything.. it has a taint or aftertaste... it even spoils ice cubes. Such a shame cos it looks nice.

Laiste · 27/05/2021 16:03

I must be a bit odd - i like the little wooden sporks (?) you get with your chips at the seaside ect.

When the food is gone i sit and chew on the wooden thing for a while watching the sea ...
