Is this classed as irregular periods? Panicking

Panicstatuonsge · 27/05/2021 09:23

My period cycles are 28 days one month, then 29 or 30 the next, then may 29 the one after, 28, 30, 29 etc... basically no two months are identical.

Is this classed as an irregular period? I’ve tried to read about it and most sites says varying cycle length is normal by a day or so but then other sites suggest even a day might be irregular. I’m panicking I’m about to hit the menopause or something. I have anxiety generally but at 36 I’m particularly worried about this. It’s not come from anywhere else just this cycle length thing. I’ve only recently started counting the days so I don’t know how long it’s been like this.

Not that irregular being only a day or so out each time.
If it was weeks out yes that irregular but a day out

Hummingbird18 · 27/05/2021 09:28

I wish I had periods as regular as yours! Mine can be anywhere from 28 days to 42 days and I'm still quite young. Yours seem perfectly normal to me.

Panicstatuonsge · 27/05/2021 09:31

I’m worried about being infertile. I’m sure when I was at uni they were bang on 28, though I can’t be sure as maybe I didn’t pay attention then either.

I’m worried it’s a sign of my decline in that way. I’m now day 29 and no sign of AF. Definitely not pregnant before anyone asks!

@Inthesameboatatmo so a day or so out here and there is just classed as normal? I’m worried they seem to be getting longer like I’m ageing drastically

I'm sorry you've been so worried, but I was also expecting you to be weeks out. You're looking at two days variation here, max - OP, that's super regular. Get yourself a tracking app (I use Clue but there are loads more out there) and try tracking your periods over a longer period of time (say a year or so) to get more of a feel for what is normal for you.

Obviously I am not a doctor, so you should talk to your GP if you're worried about anything, but this sounds absolutely normal.

Panicstatuonsge · 27/05/2021 09:37

Thanks @uglyswan I have had anxiety and also worry that I’ve not had a family yet so this is a big source of worry for me.

I did ask a GP a while ago about length of the bleeding which was only 4/5 days max and she said it was fine. I try and avoid GP though as my anxiety can spiral if I let myself continually ask questions. I thought it would be helpful to post to hear from real people.

I just don’t get why it’s not arrived yet, last month was definitely 28 days so this one is now longer.

😂 no
My cycles vary between 31 and 56 days. Try that for irregular.
Still conceived

Panicstatuonsge · 27/05/2021 09:41

How would you know when to try if they’re so irregular? I’m in such a state today, feel like something awful is happening. I’m sure they used to be more regular years ago.

BugPlaster · 27/05/2021 09:41

I think there needs to be four days difference before or after you are due on for a period to be classed as early or late. Then it's not really classed as irregular if it's a once off.

Thisisjaaam · 27/05/2021 09:46

You really need to chill out, you’re getting wound up over absolutely nothing.
You’re not even irregular!
You don’t need to know when to try, all it takes is regular sex through the month and you’re bound to hit ovulation
In the nicest way OP, I think TTC when you have this level of anxiety about periods which are a day or two out is really not a brilliant idea

BarbaraofSeville · 27/05/2021 09:57

Sorry but LOL at the idea of variations of a day or two being irregular. Even when TTC, you have several fertile days a month so being a day or two out is neither her nor there.

Just wait until you're perimenopausal. As it happens I came on today, with an interval of just 20 days. Before that it was 34, 28, 30 days and prior to that about 8 months.

LadyDanburysHat · 27/05/2021 09:57

Like Thisisjaaam mine can be anywhere from 32 to 56, they always have been since I was a teen. I got pregnant very easily, several times.

If you've only just started checking the dates exactly, then perhaps they weren't as regular as you thought in the past. It really is nothing to worry about.

SaturdayRocks · 27/05/2021 10:01

My periods have always been about 28-32 days and I’ve been having them for 33 years now.

OhThoseBubbles · 27/05/2021 10:03

Are you for real OP Hmm

Panicstatuonsge · 27/05/2021 10:05

Thank you for reassuring me. Sorry to have sounded dramatic! I thought anything 30 days or more was a sign of ageing so it scared me a bit.

Panicstatuonsge · 27/05/2021 10:05

@OhThoseBubbles just have anxiety, wanted some reassurance. Feel a bit silly now Blush

dementedpixie · 27/05/2021 10:06

I think you need to calm down a bit. A few days here and there don't mean anything is wrong.

BabbleBee · 27/05/2021 10:07

A day or two out is absolutely fine. Mine used to be anything from 24 to 56 days and I have 4 DC all naturally conceived.

dementedpixie · 27/05/2021 10:08

Mine seem to range from 23 days to about 35 days. I prefer the longer cycle!

romany4 · 27/05/2021 10:09

Mine are anything from 24-35 days a month
Yours are not irregular

Dumbledoresgirl · 27/05/2021 10:11

Mine were always anything from 28 to 31 days - very occasionally longer - the whole way through my menstruation. I conceived 4 children very easily in my 30s. Peri menopause in my 40s, when cycle became increasingly irregular - ultimately as irregular as anything from 18 days to 6 months. Finally went through the menopause at 50.

You have nothing to worry about. You sound 100% within normal range to me.

Twizbe · 27/05/2021 10:12

I think you need to speak to your GP about your anxiety rather than your periods.

What you describe is really regular. Mine are similar in length and my natural cycles apps classes me as regular.

Are you trying to get pregnant at the moment?

PieElla · 27/05/2021 10:12

A sign of ageing? You're going to age every single second that goes by I'm afraid.

Your periods are fine so I suspect that this is more to do with not having had children yet and hearing the deafening clang of the fertility bell. If you want children then I'd go for it. If you want to wait or need to wait then don't worry based on your periods - they're normal if it's a day or two difference

LindaEllen · 27/05/2021 10:31

Mine have always been like that. You know the kind of time you're going to come on (i.e. you know it'll be within the next couple of days). Irregular means you just can't guess and it comes whenever it feels like it.

The only time my periods were regular (and I mean to the hour!) were when I was on the pill and I took it at exactly the same time every day.

Panicstatuonsge · 27/05/2021 10:36

@LindaEllen yes I can usually tell so today I feel horrible and like it’s almost time but no other sign!

I think I’ve just got myself into a state about it. I only recently started counting the days so maybe they were always like this.
