Anyone not gone grey?

Realised today that my mum is 75 and still not grey. I'd always assumed she dyed her hair but apparently not. She used to have Auburn/brown hair and it has definitely faded but it isn't grey. I'm mid 40's and have spotted a few grey hairs but not many. I don't have the redness in my hair like her though.

Just wondered how common this was?

There's something specific about red hair, it doesn't grey, it fades. There's a name for it...

People with red in their hair grey differently. Sort of red to blonde.

Although my hair was always reddish, it clearly wasn't very red as it's mainly greying properly.

Wow impressive op! DM uses Henna. She only got a few greys I think, she is 73. I have Indian heritage as my grandmothers mother was Indian. I'm 40 and just got a few lockdown greys.

That's interesting. I'm a chestnut and seem to be going more taupe.

Brunette here who has never ever dyed their hair. Couple of stray greys and my hair isn't dark dark brown like in my 20s but that's it. Apparently I had a relative with similar hair who never went grey. I'm hoping I got that gene 😊
Im 42

Piccalily19 · 17/05/2021 10:28

My partners nan is well into her 70s and still has mostly mousy medium brown hair, few greys at the front I think.
My dad is late 50s and doesn’t have many greys at all, still has his same mousy brown hair he’s always had. I’ve inherited his hair so I’m hoping that means I’ll be the same too!! 🤞🏻

Bluesheep8 · 17/05/2021 12:08

I'm 48 and my hair's black with no grey at all.

Bells3032 · 17/05/2021 12:11

My DH's grandmother hasn't (i also assumed it was dye but it didn't disappear during lockdown and i was ordering her shopping so know its not from a box). She was apparently originally blonde but it's quite gingery now

HowToBringABlushToTheSnow · 17/05/2021 12:19

I'm 46 and have gone from being blonde in my twenties to dark brown in my mid forties, which is rather odd, but no grey yet.

GrumpyHoonMain · 17/05/2021 12:27

Some hair like black or red doesn’t go grey. It goes white. I’m only getting a couple of white hairs now and I’m over 40. My dad’s started at 65 lol

MedusasBadHairDay · 17/05/2021 12:32

My maternal nan always used to boast about her hair because it was still the same shade it was when she was a young girl, right at the end she had a couple of grey hairs at her temples but that was all.

Slightly different on my dad's side of the family, dad was going grey in his 30s. Going to be interesting to see which side of the family I take after, fast approaching my 40s and no grey yet.

amusedbush · 17/05/2021 12:35

I’m 31 with chocolate brown hair and don’t have a single grey (I ask my hairdresser to check!). My mum is 57 with very dark hair and only has a few white wisps around her temples, and they only appeared in the last couple of years.

Tal45 · 17/05/2021 12:49

I think red hair is supposed to be the slowest to turn, my mum is 67 and is slowly changing. I met an old lady who apparently was red till an elderly age and then went white very suddenly.

SwimBaby · 17/05/2021 13:11

My DM had red hair, it’s now blond.
My DF had dark brown hair, he went grey in his mid 60’s.
I’m in my 50’s with brown hair and only have a very few grey hairs. My DB is the same.

PufferFishGoneWrong · 17/05/2021 14:14

DH late 40's no greys. I start going grey in my teens.

goose1964 · 17/05/2021 14:20

I'm 57 with reddish blonde/ Brown hair and have a silver streak about a centimetre back on my right hand side, the rest of my hair has the very rare white hair in it. I'm upset that I'm not going to have my paternal gran's hair. It was such a dark grey it was almost blue.

emmathedilemma · 17/05/2021 14:23

My dad is mid 70's and is only grey round the sides, the rest is very much still brown. My mum went grey in her 30's (I think she possibly blames me!) but she was darker than I am and "touch wood" still only find the occasional grey hair in my mid 40's.

CovidSmart · 17/05/2021 14:24

Yep.

my mum and my dad aren't grey. They are mid 70s Shock.
at most you would describe their hair colour as a very dark grey. My mum looks like she has had highlights.

Im 50 yo and have some grey hair but I havent gone grey either.
Dh is also in his 50s. He doens't look grey BUT he is blond white so the grey hair he has just blend with his natural hair colour so nothing shows up Grin

shinynewapple21 · 17/05/2021 15:42

I remember when I first met my MIL , she was around 60 but had reddish auburn hair . As ageist as I was in my 20s (30 years ago) I thought how inappropriate to die her hair such a bright colour at that age . Turns out it was natural .

Vintagevixen · 17/05/2021 17:10

I'm 50 - dark hair with a reddish tint and I only have a few scattered true grey hairs in the front, around 5 of them.

My mum didn't grey until relatively late and she had dark hair, my brother had blonde hair and is now completely grey.

So almost certainly a genetic component.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 17/05/2021 17:17

52 with one grey streak.

Mum is 74 and still has about 70% of her original hair colour.

Gwenhwyfar · 17/05/2021 17:21

Mid 40s and no grey yet (on my head at least!)

maddiemookins16mum · 17/05/2021 18:00

Me, I’m a strawberry blond ☺️, all natural. Not a grey hair in sight. It’s a bit less vibrant but no grey.
I’m nearly 57.

BashfulClam · 17/05/2021 18:18

My mum is 68 and not a grey to be seen. I am 42 and don’t have any yet either.

ALongHardWinter · 17/05/2021 18:25

I'm 57 and still don't have any grey. Surprising really as my mum,dad and oldest brother all went grey in their late 40s. My other brother hasn't though.

Scarby9 · 17/05/2021 18:30

I am 60 this year and have not gone grey.
I got a sprinkling of white hairs in my mid 30s and have never got any more. My hair is also very thick.
My mum's hair went completely white by the age of 50, but my dad kept his colour longer, probably until this mid-60s, so I think I take after him. My brother, younger than me is both grey and going bald.
All my friends are either grey or dye their hair.
