Are Ikea sofas any good?

We really need a new sofa and the fully washable covers appeal to me. Do the cushions last well or do they start to sag after a while? Any other recommendations if not Ikea?

Fine here. Washable covers are a godsend.

If they go a bit flats its mega it's to buy some memory foam to bolster them again

Zarene · 16/05/2021 19:38

I looooved my old one. Extremely comfy and hard wearing, and very cheap.

I had it for about 10 years, now my DS has it and it's still going strong.

PickAChew · 16/05/2021 19:40

The ektorp might be better but we got through 2 landskrona sofas in 2 years because the arms are not at all teenage boy proof.

We've had one for nearly 20 years and it is still so comfy, and the covers are handy too!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/05/2021 19:44

Got the Ektorp on recommendation from here. Bloody brilliant sofas. Took my 7year old 20 mins to build one. We timed him.

Comfy and hard wearing so far.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/05/2021 19:46

Mine is nearly 11years old now. Only reason we are thinking of replacing is the shape doesn't fit our new house living room (we need a corner instead of two separate sofas). We have a two seater and a three seater Ektorp.

Buggerthebotox · 16/05/2021 19:53

Nockeby here. I've had it around a year. I put it together myself. I've got the very light grey and it does get very grubby. It's very comfortable but I wish I had room for the longer version.

I think it will be hard wearing and the covers are replaceable.

PaperMonster · 16/05/2021 19:59

I had the cheapest small one, I can’t remember its name! It was brilliant! Loved being able to swap colours of the cover. Lasted really well and only got rid of it as we moved into a house where the living room could accommodate a standard sized sofa. It went off to be a sofa in a playroom somewhere!

Hoplop · 16/05/2021 20:00

Had ours for three years so far. We’re not necessarily ‘kind’ to it as a young family and heavy handed DH but it’s pretty much like new still. Covers wash well and shape is still perfect.

Unsuremover · 16/05/2021 20:01

We bought 2 when we got our first house and had to do the whole house for 2 grand. Replaced them years later and wished I hadn’t. Washable covers and got different colours.

Cheekyweegobshite · 16/05/2021 20:06

We have a Stocksund. I'm not particularly happy with it and I wouldn't get another tbh. The frame cover has never really fitted properly - not sure whether it's faulty or I'm just inept, but I've never been able to get it to fit right and it looks a mess. The cushions have worn really badly and sag so that they aren't as comfy to sit on and also means the covers ruckle up and look a mess.

It was fine for a few years when the kids were younger and couldn't be trusted not to make a mess because it is handy to be able to throw the covers in the washing machine, but otherwise it's not great.

Cheekyweegobshite · 16/05/2021 20:08

Forgot to say that we've had it for 6 years but it started looking saggy within the first couple.

piglet81 · 16/05/2021 20:10

We have a 12-year-old Ektorp still going strong.

wonkylegs · 16/05/2021 20:12

We have a 7yo ektorp in the playroom
We have 2 boys who really don't look after it, jump all over it and eat snacks on it. It's even been sicked on 😩Even though it can get a bit grubby it washes excellently and comes up as new. Ours is red and is still really bright and in excellent condition.
As far as I'm concerned it was worth every penny.

Puddycatfan · 16/05/2021 21:06

I had a Klippan for years and lost custody of it in a break up. It was so very comfortable and if my living room was bigger I would have another one.

cracracatlady · 16/05/2021 21:12

Amazing quality, I don’t understand their bad rep tbh. Mine washes so well

bellropes · 16/05/2021 21:56

We have a nine year old Ektorp and it's still going strong. It is comfortable.

Serpenta · 16/05/2021 21:58

The Ektorp is fine if you're on a budget. Quite a shallow seat though.

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 16/05/2021 22:03

We have an Ektorp. It must be at least 12 years old. The seat has just started to go lumpy but the cover is fine. Much better than the (very expensive) Peter Guild one we had from John Lewis.

NichyNoo · 16/05/2021 22:06

We had a 13 year old leather IKEA sofa. Replaced last year only because we changed colour scheme & the leather was looking dated. Got an expensive Stokkers sofa and it’s in worse condition after 1 year than the 13 year old IKEA one we got rid off Sad

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 16/05/2021 22:07

Ektorp for the win. We’ve had two, our first was second hand and lasted about 7 years and our current one is getting on for 10 years and as good as the day we bought it. Washable covers are a godsend and you can bu new covers as well. They are complete bargains too, and far more robust than John Lewis ones costing 3 times the price.

BadEyeBri · 16/05/2021 22:08

Ektorp is brilliant. Grieve not so much.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/05/2021 22:11

We had an ektorp and I hated it. It needed plumping constantly. I CBA dealing with a sofa that needy.

We now have a cheap leather one, also from IKEA, that's much better.

Yika · 16/05/2021 22:14

My ektorp is over 20 years old and finally getting a bit tired. Regularly switch the covers around to keep it looking fresh. Really amazing value.

CovidCorvid · 16/05/2021 22:15

Does the ektorp come in a few bits.....could I get one home in an estate car?
