Advice on skip theft please

Ifixfastjets · 16/05/2021 12:38

Not theft from my skip, as stuff in the skip is for getting rid of...

But theft of my skip space.
More specifically, my neighbour dumping his crap in my skip.
Not small, odd things like a bag of grass cuttings, but a tv, a mower and a mattress.

Had no proof for the first two items, only suspicions as you wouldn't carry a tv very far.

But we came home from work the other night and saw the mattress on their drive.
Next morning, the same blue and white striped mattress is in my skip.
Drives are separated by a tall hedge. No way a mattress could "fall in"

I reported it to police online (not as emergency)
But police say it's a civil matter.

Who can i report it to now?

I am a single mum. Bloke next door is a bit of an arse.

Put it back on their drive.

Seeline · 16/05/2021 12:39

I'd get a friend round a boot the mattress back onto his drive

Seeline · 16/05/2021 12:40

Oh and put a tarpaulin over the skip

Rosa · 16/05/2021 12:40

And a sign saying CCTV in use

Returnoftheowl · 16/05/2021 12:47

Either speak to him and tell him to remove it or just put it back on his drive.

Faranth · 16/05/2021 12:52

I think it's fly tipping - so local council is the place to report it.

But I'd also do as PP says and put it back on his drive, with a note saying you have cameras (doesn't matter if you don't!)

Jongleurterre · 16/05/2021 12:55

Alternatively say that he was seen putting the stuff in your skip and you would have preferred he asked first as you intend to fill it and his stuff is taking up room so could he remove it ASAP or can he make a contribution % to the cost.

If you don’t want to approach him then drag the stuff out and leave on his drive.

Ifixfastjets · 16/05/2021 12:55

It will be going back on his drive!

And I think a fake camera may appear very soon.
Will see if I can report to council

This sort of thing boils my piss. You have paid for the skip therefore the cost of the rubbish you are disposing. Either your neighbour stumps up money towards it (if you can spare the space), or dump his stuff back on his drive way. I would not dare to dispose of my rubbish in a neighbours skip. Cheeky fucker.

Docsmix · 16/05/2021 12:58

What a CF

Put them all back on his drive.

crosspelican · 16/05/2021 12:58

Just put it back on his drive. I wouldn't discuss it with him. He's obviously already wildly unreasonable - you don't need a fraught conversation to prove this.

Dogwoodrose · 16/05/2021 13:01

Sympathies OP, you can't have a skip round here unless you're prepared to guard it 24/7, it would be full in minutes! Not helpful I realise but at least you know where the stuff has come from and have some chance of recourse, bit trickier when it's every fucker in a five mile radius Angry

sapnupuas · 16/05/2021 13:06

We were told we have to pay extra for mattress disposal.

What a prick.

Aalvarino · 16/05/2021 13:09

That is awful! What a dick.

Ifixfastjets · 16/05/2021 13:27

There is only one thing on council website about fly tipping.
And that's on public land.

So police wont help as it's a civil matter (even though its theft of my skip space)

And council wont help as it's on my drive.

Looks like finding some of ds mates then?

The sudden appearance of random mattresses is the reason whenever we get a skip we make sure we have all our rubbish piled ready to put in straightaway so the CFs have no chance to get in first! Definitely put all his stuff back!

Ifixfastjets · 16/05/2021 18:54

Ds is currently planning what to do with their stuff, to make it inconvenient but not get himself in to trouble

I said put it all behind their cars so they have to move it before they can go out

Cheeky git had the audacity to say hello to dd this morning, as she got In the car.
As if nothing had happened!

Get a blink camera they are easy to set up and next day delivery from Amazon. Put the stuff back on his drive and then engage in passive aggressive neighbour wars for the next five years.

JustJoinedRightNow · 17/05/2021 08:09

When is the skip being collected? As soon as it’s going on the truck to leave, get your DS and his friends to put the neighbour’s stuff back exactly where you saw the mattress and just pretend the whole thing never happened!

AreTurnipsReal · 17/05/2021 08:13

I would ask them. Dont just put it back as you will be stressed out for years to come every time you see them if they get aggressive. This sounda really frustrating for you. What bellends.

yoshiblue · 17/05/2021 09:12

I would tell them you have seen them put the items in your skip (you don't have to confirm CCTV or not). The mattress was for example clearly on their drive the day before as well.

Tell them they have today to move the items. At worst if this isn't done, you can drop them back on their drive later.

FrangipaniBlue · 17/05/2021 09:24

I'd put it back on their drive or front garden then knock on the door to tell them I'd brought their stuff back.

This is a great idea!

As a variant ,
Knock on their door, tell them you’ve still not put all your rubbish in so you’ll have to take theirs out for now. Then have the skip collected pronto.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 17/05/2021 10:47

Some folk have no shame. I would be saying to them - just so they know you aren’t a pushover for future reference.

Leeds2 · 17/05/2021 12:09

If the neighbour is otherwise a good neighbour, he probably just doesn't think he has done anything wrong. It is very, very cheeky of him to do this though as he hasn't even asked. I like the idea of putting the stuff back on his drive just before the skip is moved. If he complains, you can easily tell him that the skip was full of your stuff so no room for his.
