Hello,

My BF who I have not been able to see has a delightful baby boy aged 10months and we are seeing each other next week and I am looking for a gift (hopefully something he can play with straight away). My children are much older now so I feel out of the loop so I would be very grateful for your help. Thank you!

What's your budget?

Assuming smallish gifts...

Bath toys are good, people don't usually think of them so you're not given too many of them, and good ones are always well used. We were given some little pouring buckets that are still used/played with years later!

Lift the flap board books
Musical board books

I'll keep thinking... (DC2 is 8 months old)

Water table? You can pick them up for £25 from Argos. Will be good for the summer.

A wow toy or elc happyland
My 9 month old like a yellow submarine bath toy
Lanka kade have lovely wooden animals that both mine love

Thank you!!! Yes smallish gift around £20 ( and they have a small home and I don't want to suddenly plonk something massive in there way)

Books.

skkyelark · 15/05/2021 21:52

Jaques of London mentioned above have some lovely bits at reasonable prices. We got their xylophone as a first birthday present, which was used immediately and should last quite a few years, but they've also got some nice stackers and shape sorters.

I also second the suggestion of lift the flap books.

Small musical toys - Hallilit and Djeco both make lovely sets that are the perfect size for little hands.

My daughter loves Lanka Kade wooden toys, only a couple of pounds each and ethically made.

Duplo or
Lovely books

Some puppets from The Puppet Company.
You can get nursery rhyme sets (finger puppets of humpty dumpty, incy wincy spider, twinkle star etc.)
We also have a set of woodland animals in a little tree. Very cute.

Alternatively, books are always a good choice. The Axel Sheffler slide, push and pull books are nice and interactive. My daughter also LOVES the Usborne "Don't Tickle The..." range of books. Touchy feels and sound effects.

ChocOrange1 · 15/05/2021 22:00

Oh we also love lanka kade animals. My daughter has just started playing with the "properly" at about 13 months so 10 months might be a bit small initially, but nice to start a collection- they're lovely

My little one is now 21 months. At that age soft bricks were good as he was learning to stack, I second the Tommy squeaky eggs. Book wise Julian McDonald books like the stick man, gruffalo are good and the baby won't grow out of them quickly. Board books are better to get while they are still learning to turn pages.

yikesanotherbooboo · 15/05/2021 22:02

Plastic animals

NameChange30 · 15/05/2021 22:03

A scramblebug is a good present too, won't be used just yet but will get a lot of use from 12+ months

Alarae · 15/05/2021 22:08

My DD finally started loving her maracas from baby sensory at that age.

Although her favourite toy was a pringle can I dumped some pasta in and taped up as a makeshift rain shaker!

livinginhope87 · 15/05/2021 22:23

Thank you all, looking at them all now!

The "that's not my...." touchy-feely books. DD enjoyed those from when she was a baby right up to being able to read them for herself.

NameChange30 · 15/05/2021 22:40

B Toys have some lovely toys for this age, I got their toy keys and they went down well IIRC. Some nice other things on the website too.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 15/05/2021 22:53

Bubble machine
Musical instruments - try lidl

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/05/2021 23:06

The ‘tails’ cloth books, I think by Jellycat, are perfect for this age, if you want something not too expensive that won’t take up a lot of space.

Little folk swimming bag. Very useful gift that lasts for years. Sorry no link. Google will find it though
