Any ideas? Suddenly find just the two of us are around and would love to watch something interesting and not really just a mindless blonde chic flick. But not too heavy ...

Enola Holmes
Yes, this!

Incredible film!

Floralchickens · 15/05/2021 23:17

Love and monsters
Enola homes
Jumanji

We’ve been working our way through ‘old films’ like Cast away, Big, Trueman show.

Or the death in paradise series.

My 14 year old DD has recently loved:

Pirates of the Caribbean
Men In Black
Ferris Bueller
Jurassic Park
Indiana Jones
Apollo 13

I have the Breakfast Club lined up next but she might cry.

AveAtqueVale · 16/05/2021 01:32

I think my mum watched the old Stepford Wives with me at about that age. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Bloodybridget · 16/05/2021 02:37

How about Rocks, or would it be too old for your DD? It's a brilliant film with the majority of the cast teenage girls.

Anordinarymum · 16/05/2021 02:50

I. recently watched 'Holes' with my grandson I would urge anyone to watch it. it's the best thing I have seen in a long time.

funtimefrank · 16/05/2021 07:47

Mean girls
Clueless
Ferris Bueller
Weekend at Bernies (I know I know but it's funny)
Dd1 and I have been working through the various Austen adaptations. She likes the KK p&p.

Top Gun
Old school classic musicals like My Fair Lady go down quite well
Totally agree with new Jumanji and Ebola Holmes
I know it's a series but we liked the Irregulars
Dd1 and I also watched Working Girl the other day. I got a bit annoyed with the gratuitous shots of Melanie Griffiths in her pants but otherwise we enjoyed and had a good discussion afterwards about classism and how it combines with sexism

funtimefrank · 16/05/2021 07:48

Ffs ENOLA.

DD (11) and I just watched The Woman in the Window. It was quite good. Enjoyed Enola Holmes, Hunger Games, 10 things I Hate About You, Freaky Friday and the film I can never remember the name of where the girl lives in a funeral home and the boy gets stung to death by bees...

Do people think dirty dancing is okay then? The abortion scene etc?

So funny people talking about old films, going to 80s

Most of the those mentioned op and what about the true old classics like North by North west, cassablanca, rear window, the batetoot contessa, Mildred peirce, the old inspector cluseau films, Lawrence of Arabia

@Dontjudgeme101 it's interesting that you really rate Anne with an E. I started watching this, but found it far too over the top! I had to switch off at the scene with the dead mouse, and haven't been brave enough to return to it!
Dontjudgeme101 · 16/05/2021 21:14

I have to admit, when l watched Dirty Dancing l was in my 20s a long time ago. I forgot about the abortion scene. Maybe it’s not suitable then, for your daughter to watch.
