A bit of excitement, police with machine guns have just sealed off our street!

We're just over visiting our DD. She lives in a street full of terraced houses and three police SUVs have pulled up and blocked the street.

Then five policemen got out and suited up. They have the lot on - helmets, machine guns etc and are standing outside a house about 50 yards down the street.

No idea what is happening but this is really just an ordinary street - not used to seeing machine guns round this way!
**@1990s* Honestly when I watched Line of Duty I was thinking, they never do this in really life... fascinated to hear they do!*

Do you live in a sleepy backwater or something where nothing ever happens? Grin Of course this happens. The same with surveillance, tracking devices etc etc. It's normal people that do these jobs. The TV programmes don't always get it exactly right (believe me, I hear the tutting when they get some details slightly wrong and just roll my eyes as I know I'm in for a boring explanation as to why)
@CurlyhairedAssassin I live in Brixton in south London Blush

I know there are raids... just didn't think they were armed raids and didn't know they were LoD drama level!

@elp30 I appreciate many citizens don't carry guns & wish they were not as easily available from gun shops etc- it does seem a political /commercial issue, watching the storming of the Capital was scary - I guess assumptions are from either some TV programs supposedly real life families or sadly because of some of the tragic school shootings & that your police all carry guns -

I agree that the 'big guns' are likely to have been Heckler and Koch submachine carbines. I think the police issue units are downgraded so they can only fire one round per trigger squeeze. I guess the handguns (Glock or SigSauer ?) aren't downgraded.

We had a little bit of excitement when we lived in East Dulwich. The police turned up (unarmed I think) to next door. I have never seen so many Nigerians before! I believe the police had broken up a brothel! To be honest we had never noticed much going on next door though they did have a party once and one guy argued with another that he had "spent good money on that woman"!
