What to eat with a banana

Surroundedbytime · 14/05/2021 13:22

I have overbought bananas for some reason so thinking of different things to eat them with. I like a banana on its own but also with cream and sugar or chopped with muesli. I also add them to a curry. Oh and banana bread of course. Any more suggestions?

In a toastie with peanut butter.
Serve with crispy bacon and thank me later Grin

I'm allergic to bananas but my dad eats them with cheddar cheese, literally a bite of cheese and then a bite of banana. Has anyone else heard of this??

If you chop them into chunks and freeze them you can make instant ice cream by just whizzing them in the blender from frozen and then adding flavour if you like, peanut butter or Nutella works well or just serve with some berries.

This morning I had crunchy peanut butter and banana on whole meal toast for breakfast as a post workout treat and it was delicious. Bananas also freeze well (without skins) and are perfect for making smoothies or healthy ice cream.

@Shouldbedoing

An egg and a banana mushed together will fry like a pancake and act like a pancake. Then peanut butter or yogurt and fruit/berries to taste
Tell me more...do you add milk? Or salt, sugar? I’d love to try
krj2688 · 14/05/2021 14:58

I mash them with honey and have on top of toast Smile

Cocolapew · 14/05/2021 14:59

Sandwich! White bread, banana mushed not sliced.

Chunkymenrock · 14/05/2021 15:02

Smoothie.

bellabride · 14/05/2021 15:03

Another for Greek yoghurt and honey.
With toffee yoghurt and cinnamon.

Sorry wait - you put banana in curry? What kind? I didn't know that was a thing.

I eat plantain as a side with curries or other stews etc, but not IN the curry

Mummyoply · 14/05/2021 15:08

muffins either with Blueberries or Choc Chips or Nuts - all work well with Banana Smile

Horehound · 14/05/2021 15:24

Yes banana in a curry is good actually!

Like a ripe banana? Is it not quite squishy?
BetterThanKleenex · 14/05/2021 15:32

My niece gets a tortilla, smothers it in nutella, pops a banana in and rolls it lengthways then cuts it like sushi- such a kid snack but surprisingly nice!

Bananas freeze really well so if you wanted you could freeze some to make ice cream or banana bread.

I love having yoghurt with chopped banana and muesli for breakfast, you could add other berries, seeds and nuts if that's your thing. Or banana flapjacks- I add cocoa to mine.

Davros · 14/05/2021 15:32

DH likes them in a sandwich with Branston pickle

BetterThanKleenex · 14/05/2021 15:33

Ooh as PP has said- banana pancakes! They freeze too if you want quick breakfasts!

TheBestSpoon · 14/05/2021 15:36

Slice it and cook it in porridge - much nicer than adding it at the end as it sort of melds into the porridge! I then add a few squares of chocolate, some raisins or a spoon of Biscoff spread, but I'm a bit of a glutton...

MisContrued · 14/05/2021 15:38

Freeze them for smoothies.

Mathshelpme · 14/05/2021 16:09

Flambé with dark rum, brown sugar and cinnamon (banana fosters) and serve with vanilla ice cream.

Or chop and put on a slice of bread. Add salt. Spread peanut butter on another slice. Make the sandwich and shallow fry.

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/05/2021 16:58

I make banana curry, it's actually delicious.
I don't eat a whole plate of it though, I serve it with another curry, sometimes more, the rice or Indian bread/poppadoms and sude dishes.
It's particularly great for babies who are not long past weaning age.
A wee bit of banana curry, and some naan, or poppadoms, plus raita and tomatoes.
Dd adored it at that age.
They also have no preconceived idea that it's thought of as weird.

Flugbusters4444 · 14/05/2021 17:00

Am fascinated by banana in curry, I just can't imagine it at all! Does anyone have a recipe for what curry you'd have - I want to try, dunno if I'll like it but am very curious

Surroundedbytime · 14/05/2021 17:03

You can make Kashmiri chicken with fruit including banana. Or sometimes I make a chicken curry and just chop half a banana on the side and place it next to the rice.
