Sweating/deodorant

Hi all
Hope everyone’s keeping well and staying safe.

TLDR Down below because I ramble too much Grin

I’ve been struggling with my sweating for a while now. I’ve been looking around on here, and it seems that mitchum is a go to for a lot of you. I struggle with sweat patches/ never feeling dry. Mostly, I think it’s in my head and I overthink it too much, but honestly it’s affecting my social life because I am so uncomfortable in myself, I don’t allow myself to let loose or be free physically in case I smell. I try and wear baggier clothes to avoid the worry. I want to wear those tighter and lighter tops in my closet!!!

I used natural deodorant for around 2 years and then it kind of stopped working. Then I started with Sure spray deodorant antiperspirant again - waste of time! Makes you sweat more, plus overpowering smell, maybe it’s in my head but felt like it was all I could smell on myself. Did some research, purchased mitchum roll on and stick. And have been experimenting ever since. Mind you, I’m quite dry at home but that’s granted I’m not moving around as much.

I’d say the mitchum roll on is alright I just made the mistake of buying the unscented - I feel it makes me smell damp? I also hate waiting for it to dry

The stick .. is also alright, It just kind of gathers in my armpit creases and leaves white powder. Super embarrassing. So better when I’m shaved, but still kind of sticky. Great for smell though. I actually quite like the stick, everyone swears by it, so please help me sort out the residue issue!!

Either I’m doing something wrong or .. sweating will forever be the bane of my life.
Please tell me how you use your mitchum deodorant if you use it?

TLDR: I’m always worrying about sweating/smelling, tell me how you use your mitchum deodorant, or what else you use !!

Also I’m always using antiperspirant not deodorant that’s just how I refer to it!!

Thank you so much I know this was long I just honestly have been in my head about it for months now it’s kind of upsetting xx

Oh also I forgot to mention I’ve had coronavirus and my smell has been altered since. Sweat doesn’t smell the same but it does have a bad smell still. So it’s really hard for me to distinguish what I actually smell like/ if I actually smell bad.

Nuud. A revelation.

I'm a really sweaty person and used to constantly feel damp/gave wet patches. I only wear "safe" clothes to disguise sweating etc.
I use Mitchum cream stick thing but set it with a quick skoosh of the no white Mark's spray too. Unless it's very very hot im safe from sweat patches. If im going out out or have something big planned I use odaban that just stops you sweating for a few days.

I find washing with soap rather than shower gel makes a big difference and fit any marked/sweaty clothes us white vinegar as a prewash treatment on under arms, gets rid of marks and removes any built up/ stale smell.

I personally stunk when I wore natural deodorant. Also can't imagine just wearing a spray, I would definitely sweat. Mitchum roll on (the proper roll on, not the wind up stick) is the only thing that works for me. In summer / when I'm going to be exercising, I also add some sure spray on top.

TenShortStories · 14/05/2021 00:52

Drichlor is very effective but I always think it feels so industrial strength it must be doing some damage to rely on it day in day out like I used to.

I use 'normal' deodorants now but have have adopted a tip I saw somewhere which is to apply before bed rather than in the morning. When you apply it and then straight away get on with your day (and therefore sweating) it doesn't always get a chance to work properly. I shower in the evening and then put it on when I'm dry, then straight to bed - it does seem to make a big difference compared to the days when I shower in the morning and put the deodorant on as I get dressed.

smudgemylife · 14/05/2021 01:33

I use 'salt of the earth'. Its a natural deodorant you can get from holland&barrets which is literally a smooth lump of rock hard salt.
put it on wet skin (so immediately after a shower) and let it dry.
It's honestly the only thing that keeps me dry! Has zero odour, so you can use spray on top of that once dry, or just leave it 'neutral'.

TheNestedIf · 14/05/2021 02:43

Perspirex once or twice a week in the damp areas. Dry with a hairdryer for speed. You'll be dry in the areas you apply this.

Top up daily in the damp areas, and everywhere else, with a L'Oréal spray for men. You won't be bone dry in these areas but it does make you a lot dryer and it will smell nice.

clipclop5 · 14/05/2021 02:46

The Mitchum stick is the only thing that works for me - agree that it does leave residue but I would rather that than stink! A handy tip if you get caught out with sweat and not at home is to slap some hand sanitiser on your pits - dries them out and the anti-bac kills the bacteria that cause the smell

Susannahmoody · 14/05/2021 02:46

Salt thing is interesting

RichTeaCheddars · 14/05/2021 03:24

Driclor is very effective. Stops sweating in areas it's applied. If it stings use less till you're used to it or apply talc or dry with hair dryer.

An alternative to mitchum which says use at night (for best protection, but day is fine also). www.boots.com/dove/dove-deodorant/dove-maximum-protection-anti-perspirant-cream-original-clean-45ml-10085748
I find it very good. Don't get the 96hr one that looks similar. It's awful.

Kinsters · 14/05/2021 03:43

I agree with applying at night. I shower in the evenings and put deodorant on and then put some more on in the mornings. I used to use mitchum but then I moved overseas and couldn't get it so I use Nivea now and love it. I bought some mitchum when I was back home once and it burnt my underarms!

I’m a Mitchum fan also, never lets me down.

The anti bac tip is very useful.

Triple Dry

DinosaurDiana · 14/05/2021 09:05

I use the Mitchum stick as well. Gave up on the rollerball as when it dried my clothes stuck to my skin !
I would say that you need to wash your arm pits with a soapy flannel. You need to get rid of the previous days sweat and deodorant with a bit of exfoliation.

QueenPaw · 14/05/2021 09:07

I use the dove/sure or Mitchum cream type 48hr sticks (about a fiver) and apply at night before bed
Then I use any spray in the am. Works perfectly and I am more on the sweaty side!

QueenPaw · 14/05/2021 09:08

Your clothes might need an intense wash to get rid of the sweat that's ingrained in them. Detol in the wash (not quick wash) at min 40 will help.
My friend got Botox in her arm pits. That fixed it for her.

RampantIvy · 14/05/2021 10:18

And ditch the shower gel in favour of bars of soap.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 14/05/2021 14:41

My DS has hyperhydrosis and uses Perspirex Applies approx 3 times a week at night and finds it very effective
They also make a comfort formula as the others can sting at first
It's approx £9 from boots, but lasts ages

fluffysocks345 · 14/06/2021 18:34

I’ve been meaning to thank you all for your responses . Sorry it’s took so long. I have always used bar soap! Might try cream types next as they seem problem-less ?
Recently I’ve been using the mitchum stick at night after showering to allow it to settle in, then the roll on in the day - I struggle with having no clue what it smells like because of covid. But sweating is alright
I definitely sweat less than I did using spray deodorant - revolting!!

Notaroadrunner · 14/06/2021 18:38

I use the Mitchum roll on and if I'm in a hurry I'll use my hairdryer to dry it, otherwise I'll wait til it's fully dry before putting on a top.

NannyR · 14/06/2021 18:40

I use a salt crystal and it's fantastic (for me anyway) at stopping smells. It doesn't stop you sweating though, it doesn't contain anything that is anti perspirant. It works by stopping bacteria growing on your skin which causes the bad body odour when they combine with sweat.

PlanDeRaccordement · 14/06/2021 18:44

You could get tested for hyperhydrosis and if you have it the NHS will offer various treatments up to Botox injections to reduce sweat gland activity.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 14/06/2021 19:40

What I found helps is wearing as much cotton as possible on top. Synthetic tops are the devil. That helps with the smell and also reduces how hot I feel (polyester is awful for this) and therefore how much I perspire.

I use Close to Nature or Dr Organic Tea Tree from Holland and Barrett- and go for antibacterial properties, like tea tree or lemon or lavener.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/06/2021 20:02

Odaban or driclor are both effective.
