I have had some minor gynae symptoms recently (clear smear, clear colposcopy) so was sent for a transvaginal ultrasound today to make sure all was OK with my ovaries. When I have had these before the technician has usually said oh the results will go to your doctor but it all looks OK. Today she just said the results will go to your doctor in a week. Now I am panicking she saw something. I took pictures of the images on screen and have fallen into a black hole googling. There is a white mass which I am convinced must be a tumour along with other things I have convinced myself are sinister.

I'm being utterly ridiculous I know but I am completely panicking.

You won’t be left waiting if it is sinister. My brother had a testicular ultrasound on the Friday and the radiographer said ‘I’m sending it over to your GP, book an appointment for Monday to get your results!’ His GP called him that afternoon as he had cancer. They act fast.

I had endometrial cancer last year and it all started to become apparent after a scan for heavy bleeding. After they'd finished the scan the sonography told me she was referring me to a gynaecologist because I had a thickened endometrium. I suspected then that something wasn't right. If they have just said that the results will be with your GP next week then I think you should be reassured that it's probably nothing to worry about. In my case, my GP rang me the day after the scan to say he was escalating my referral. Even then, cancer wasn't suspected but if there is any doubt at all you will get seen pretty quickly.

If it IS anything sinister you won't have to wait to see your GP first. Please don't Google. That is what I did and I scared myself stupid. I'm fine now, all my lady bits taken out and I'm cancer free.

Once I had a short notice scan after pains in my side.. Scanned ovaries etc... I asked if all was OK. She said the results would go to my Dr.. Then she went and got a second opinion.. Nerves wobbling a bit now...
Second opinion laughed and said no need to wait for the results.
And pointed..
I was 14 weeks pregnant !!
Blush
Had no idea!!
Felt a bit stupid!!
I was told they aren't allowed to interpret the results themselves.
Assume in general that means good and bad outcomes...

Stop calling yourself pathetic, your scared, it’s a natural reaction, try and step away from google, if it was anything serious in all likely hood you would tell by her demeanour changing and sounding more urgent. Try and calm down, you are not being pathetic!

I'm not medically trained but I have a whopping ovarian cyst and it looks just like that on scans!
Apparently it's fine despite being larger than a grapefruit they tell me!

TheVolturi · 13/05/2021 20:11

It will be fine try to relax.

OP, in the nicest possible way, you need to get a grip because you have lost all perspective here.

Surfing the internet to try to prove that something is wrong based on experience you don’t have? Uploading pictures of your scan to a website full of strangers in the hope that what? That someone will tell you it looks like cancer? And then what?

No-one here is medically qualified, and it really isn’t appropriate to be uploading your scans here for posters to be giving out sudo diagnosis.

Step away from google, step away from MN, and your GP will call you if there is any concern.

We are just popping in to say please remember that while we hope all Mumsnetters are posting with your best interests at heart, advice from strangers on the internet is just that, and really you should only listen to qualified medical professionals about this. Please bear that in mind while reading this (and when commenting on this thread).

Just randomly asked a friend who is a doctor in a hospital. She only ever says "your doctor will speak to you" and never adds "but it looks fine". Patients would worry themselves sick if a doctor normally reassured them then suddenly didn't. If you didn't see the same person, you can assume she takes a similar position of saying nothing to any patient.

For what it's worth, I have PCOS and my ovaries look like a bunch of white pearls in a ball. Very sinister to the untrained eye but It's been 15 years since I was diagnosed and I've not needed any real medical treatment yet (except for the associated hair thinning and acne).

Anxiety makes you irrational, it happens.
