A whole year and I've only just noticed that DH has a stunt work shirt

Generally he's been wearing a t-shirt and fleece but every now and then he has a video call with a client and wears a shirt. The stunt shirt hangs on a hanger on the handle of his wardrobe door. It gets worn for maybe 30 minutes at a time up to twice a week so lasts for two or three weeks before going in the laundry basket.

It's going to be a wrench for him going back to the office as he clearly dislikes work shirts, he runs straight upstairs after the call finishes to get back into his t-shirt and fleece. Grin

A bit like me and shoes, I've barely worn shoes for a whole year and now they feel wrong. Grin

I think that work attire will be much more casual when people return to offices. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to wear heels again (sob)

dubyalass · 13/05/2021 11:59

A friend attended a zoom call for work where one of the participants was in full evening dress, including a fascinator. It was 10am. I was impressed.

Fruitinator · 13/05/2021 12:10

Putting my make up on this morning & DP asked if I had Zoom calls today.....I look like Morticia Adams' chunky sister if I don't!

Stunt makeup & Shirt. I'm all business above the desk- party below!

Someone needs to invent a backdrop that's a front drop as well. A fake outfit that appears on the screen, like the fake back drops you can download.

My DH is a lawyer, his shirt, jacket & tie get rolled out for remote court hearings and then taken off the moment the hearing finishes. He sits in that combo with shorts underneath which is pretty much all he's worn since last March - initially they were all still expected to rise for the judge so he had to remember to take the laptop with him as he stood otherwise all attendees would have noticed the lack of trousers :-)
At the moment it's bliss as there's usually only one shirt a week in the laundry basket, neither of us are looking forward to him going back into suits full time - if indeed he ever does...

InTheNightWeWillWish · 13/05/2021 12:23

DH has a stunt jumper. It’s a nice jumper that he does like wearing but for the last year, he has only worn it when on video calls. Video call finishes and his hoody goes back on. He used to wear this jumper on a weekend so it’s not overly formal Confused

Poor DH had to go into the office last week for a client meeting. Full suit, shirt, tie and proper shoes. And cuff links (that were dumped on my desk the moment he got home… and are still there). There. Was. So. Moaning.

I had to wear walking boots at weekend. My poor feet didn’t know what hit them!

Lweji · 13/05/2021 12:24

I still wear my hoodie for work and teaching calls. They can barely see below my neck, though, so I can't be bothered.

The bras are the main problem. I'm slowly getting used to wearing properly fitting bras. I don't have stunt bras, though.

bigdecisionaboutwork · 13/05/2021 12:26

I wore a stunt jumper (nice really fine knit one, with a necklace) to deliver a presentation this morning - it was back on the hanger within 5 mins of meeting end. Now in Decathlon top and running leggings, can get away with them for team calls.
Living in sports bras - even if I'm back in the office I'm not going back to underwire. I'll keep one or two nice ones for 'special' nights with the boyfriend... Grin

Xiaoxiong · 13/05/2021 12:27

Camomila I also have a stunt pashmina! I drape it artfully over my gym clothes for zoom calls and no one is (hopefully) any the wiser. Stunt earrings too!!

TheFlis12345 · 13/05/2021 12:27

I have ‘client jumpers’. I spend most of my time in patterned sweatshirts or hoodies but if I have a call with a new or senior client I put on a nice plain coloured jumper.

Melroses · 13/05/2021 12:29

Disappointed Sad

I was hoping it was going to be some sort of clip-on shirt front, like the "dickeys" they used wear on American TV shows, with their "tuxedo".

My feet have changed shape this year. And my clothes have shrunk.

I have stunt bras! I dread going back to having to wear the bastards all day.

Same here. I'm thinking it must be because being at home all the time means we get around do doing the laundry more often. Right?

Mine have too. I tried on my work trousers the other day in anticipation of going back to the office - that was a bit of a wake-up call! Shock
PassMeTheWotsits · 13/05/2021 12:48

I wear my dressing gown when working, and whip it off in favour of a jumper for a video call, then back to the dressing gown. So snuggly

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 13/05/2021 12:59

My clothes still fit but I don't work so they are all casual anyway. My feet have become wider, which is an issue as they were already wide. I think I might now be wider than the wide-fit of high street shops. My favourite shoes are about three years old and now give me cramp in my left foot if I wear them more than an hour or so. I ordered myself a pair of men's trainers and they are quite comfortable.

There was a very interesting article in the Sunday Times magazine at the weekend about how difficult it will be to revert to wearing 'proper' shoes once the pandemic is over. Apparently your feet adapt to the shoes you are wearing and it isn't good to always wear the same - its also good to vary the heel height daily so your ankle and calf muscles get worked. They also said to start wearing proper shoes for increasing amounts of time during the day in the last couple of weeks before wearing them daily again. And build up to wearing heels again in the same way!

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 13/05/2021 13:17

I have a stunt lipstick just next to my computer for zoom calls. A scarf is a GENIUS idea.

MrsJBaptiste · 13/05/2021 13:20

But what about random Teams phone calls? They’re pretty much just meetings that haven’t been scheduled in your calendar.

You can have stunt shirts, tops, bras (?) for meetings you’re expecting but we have our cameras on whenever you speak to someone on Teams. Therefore I always have my hair, make up, clothes sorted which is a bloody pain TBH but then I’d be like this if I was in the office so can’t moan I suppose!

Alexapissoff · 13/05/2021 13:26

Yup - my Dh has a smart jumper and a shirt. He will sling either on over a t shirt when he has to. I know shit has hit the fan at work that week if the shirt ends up in the washing basket on Saturday morning.

menopause59 · 13/05/2021 13:28

I'm dreading having to wear tights and shoes again

KatyS36 · 13/05/2021 13:29

I am reading the beauty myth. Its making me rethink how much effort I actually want to put into my appearance when I go back to work for the perceived benefit of work.

emmathedilemma · 13/05/2021 13:31

OMG I'd completely forgotten about tights @menopause59 !! That means I'm going to have to keep on top of the leg shaving thing again.
I've only seen a handful of people wearing anything close to office work attire on meetings. The Clients are more casual than us normally so not had to make an effort for them, although I would if it was a serious marketing meeting or similar, but not for day-to-day project calls.

CMOTDibbler · 13/05/2021 13:33

@MrsJBaptiste none of us turn the camera on for just calling each other thankfully. Some of my meetings are no camera as well (watching the engineers looking at the floor on camera as its still too much eye contact was painful for everyone, so we agreed).

Its a good idea on building back up to heels, I might have to start doing that since I haven't worn anything but flat shoes since last March

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 13/05/2021 13:34

DH doesn't bother for regular calls within the company, it's only external clients where he's trying to make a good impression that he puts on the shirt.
