Parrot Screaming

user1490216514 · 11/05/2021 23:34

House opposite have a parrot. It makes a lot of noise all the time. We can all hear it

You used to see it in fly around in the window until they got a dog, now it’s just in porch all the time in it’s cage swarking loudly

They been away (no cars) since last Friday and taken the dog with them. Absolutely no noise whatsoever from the parrot. I think it’s covered all the time

Someone comes once a day, I assume to feed the parrot, but it’s now screaming. Any advice? I don’t have any numbers

Ah didn't mean AIBU and vote!

That is so awful to read it. Call the RSPCA. That poor poor bird. I don't know why people keep such intelligent animals and treat them like that, it honestly breaks my heart. I could never go on holiday and just abandon my birds.

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 11/05/2021 23:42

That’s pure cruelty, please help the bird and call your local animal rescue.

Would the RSPCA do anything? I hope they would but I’m not sure. I don’t understand how anyone would confine a bird in a cage

OP posts:
ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 11/05/2021 23:45

Here is the 24 hour animal cruelty line for the RSPCA though I don’t hold out a lot of hope for them actually helping, if you can find a local animal ambulance rescue close to you they may be better. 0300 1234 999

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 11/05/2021 23:49

Birdline Uk Parrot Rescue number 0845 643 1785

user1490216514 · 11/05/2021 23:52

Ok so your posts have confirmed this isn’t right. I'm proper afraid of birds and haven’t given them much thought until now.

I've found a local number and will give them a call in the morning

OP posts:
ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 11/05/2021 23:53

Safehaven Parrot Rescue 078108 44134 (8am - 8pm) but you can call out of hours for emergencies

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 11/05/2021 23:54

Well done OP, really hope that poor bird gets rescued

user1490216514 · 11/05/2021 23:55

Parrot rescue sounds good!

I just can't believe anyone would leave an animal in distress.

OP posts:
ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 12/05/2021 00:10

Yes I think they would be good to get hold of and hopefully help the poor thing. It breaks my heart the way some people treat their pets.

Turniptracker · 12/05/2021 08:13

Thank you for helping that poor animal op. Birds in particular are very sociable and basically have the mind of a young toddler and they form strong attachments and need a lot of stimulation. No one should be leaving that kind of creature along, locked in a cage, under a sheet, in a porch. God that's so cruel

Turniptracker · 12/05/2021 08:14

Alone not along!

DawnMumsnet · 12/05/2021 09:51

We're moving this thread out of AIBU and into our Chat topic for the OP.

user1490216514 · 12/05/2021 11:37

Dawn thanks for moving the thread

I've spoken to Safehaven Pet Rescue and they agree it's wrong and dangerous for the parrot to be covered 24/7

Due to the fact it's not my parrot they can’t help. They suggested finding a way of getting in touch with the family. If family can’t be contacted they said report to RSPCA.

I don’t know the family or their neighbours I’m just aware there’s usually a lot of parrot noise coming from their house and it's now silent. I didn’t think the parrot was there until I heard the noises last night

I'm off to knock on some doors and introduce myself to see if anyone has any info

Oh no I’ve been thinking about the Parrot today and was really hoping the rescue centres would be able to intervene, I am so upset for that poor parrot, if you don’t have any joy with neighbours maybe you could try and catch the person who has been going in to see what’s going on but I would still report to the RSPCA and if they don’t intervene I will be fuming, if they find out someone comes once a day they will try and deflect to say that’s fine.......it’s not fine at all, pure cruelty. Thank you OP for trying to do your best for the parrot i really hope the bird is rescued, it needs a loving home, so sad.

tv86 · 12/05/2021 20:59

Let us know what happens op. hopefully you can get in touch with the owner and they find it a new home. Poor parrot. upsets me so much people can treat animals like this.

user1490216514 · 12/05/2021 22:30

After keeping a look out all afternoon I managed to get hold of the son earlier. He says he's going to call twice tomorrow to uncover and recover the parrot.

I’m going to chat with them when they return and give them a leaflet about rehoming the parrot. They clearly don’t care about it at all

I'm terrified of birds, it's the wings, but even I’d take it in then have it suffer a few doors down the road.

OP posts:
ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 12/05/2021 22:46

That’s a really positive step OP and what a lovely person you are for looking out for the poor parrot, I really really hope they give the bird up to a sanctuary so it can have some sort of life, I’m the same as you, would take any animal in to stop it’s suffering, that poor birds mental and physical health...... I would still report them for animal cruelty, this needs to be flagged it won’t be the last time they do it. Hopefully the son realises how cruel they are being now you have highlighted the birds suffering and if he has any decency will get his parents to re home.

user1490216514 · 13/05/2021 00:23

I've donated to the parrot charity. I really can’t believe Parrots are kept in these conditions

Livestock have minimum requirements but parrots caged 24/7 don’t

OP posts:
ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 13/05/2021 00:48

I wonder if the new animal rights bill announced today will include caged birds, i bloody hope so.

user1490216514 · 13/05/2021 10:56

Good news. Son has been so I’ve gone out and can hear phone ringing and vehicle reversing noises from the parrot so I believe it’s uncovered

It's quite warm here today so he’s left a couple of windows open a crack. Should clear the stuffy room. Hope the parrot doesn’t get cold!

Can’t believe I’m this invested. I don’t like birds!

OP posts:
ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 13/05/2021 12:41

That’s good news, I’m really hoping your intervention pricks their conscience and things improve for the poor thing. Your invested because you are a good person who knows it’s not right to treat a parrot that way despite not liking them! I can’t believe how often the parrot has been on my mind so you are not alone in your investment!

user1490216514 · 15/05/2021 15:31

Anyone know how to shut up a bloody parrot 😂😂

The whole road and surrounding areas are back hearing the bird. Seems to be more vocal than usual probably making up for the past few days. This is a good thing

I did spot and grab the bloke who lives in the house when they got back this morning. His response was it was 'just having some extra kip and was being fed'

I'm going to give them some rehome info and will be keeping an ear out for the poor bird. Any repeat and I will contact the RSPCA however I don’t think they will actually do much.

Voluntary rehome looks to be the best thing but not sure they will go for it. I'll try though

OP posts:
ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 16/05/2021 00:51

He clearly has no care or understanding for the parrot’s welfare, at least it’s more vocal now so I’m hoping it’s a bit happier poor thing. Yes I suppose the only thing you can do is keep an eye on the situation and if the bird is left again I would report, but yes I don’t expect they will do much but at least there would be a record started of neglect. So wish they would re home with Safehaven. Hope the squawking doesn’t keep you awake!
