Can anyone please recommend any peanut, almond and hazelnut butters that are free from Cashews and Pistacio

Just that really. My dc had an allergy test and has been told they have got an allergy to cashews and Pistacios. No allergies detects for peanuts, walnuts , almonds and Hazel nuts. We've been told to introduce these as butters ideally. Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Tia

No suggestions but why not make them at home and you'll know 100% what ges in.
I've never tried but I've seen videios - powerful blender , a dash of salt and process until you get the consistency .
Maybe dry roast first?

Try Holland&Barrett fpr small bags of nuts to try out ?

Or H&B will sell the ready made ones for sure .

Cocksinsocks · 11/05/2021 20:07

Genuine question - are labels not to be trusted? My almond butter says it's ingredients are hundred percent almonds. Same with my peanut butter

Cocksinsocks · 11/05/2021 20:08

(100 per cent peanuts!)

@Cocksinsocks I'm quite new to this whole nut butters thing tbh. We only got diagnosed recently. I haven't been to the shops to look at the actual products, so have been looking online and most of the online descriptions say "not suitable for other nut allergy sufferers" or the like Sad . I am assuming even though the product is made with 100% whatever the nut, it could be made in a factory that handles other nuts and could cause cross-contamination

HeeHawSeeSaw · 11/05/2021 20:20

@Cocksinsocks does the peanut butter and almond butter you have say that it is not suitable for other nut allergy sufferers? If not, can I ask you what brands you are using?

@70isaLimitNotaTarget i did consider that. But my blender isn't particularly powerful, so I will have to buy a new blender as well. I am not sure how nice my homemade peanut butter would taste either. Dont want to put dc off peanut butter forever.

I just buy own brand - Tesco or Waitrose usually and recently Meridian.
They're all going to be cautious. Why not try a small amount if you've been encouraged to do so?

TedsWeeDonkey · 11/05/2021 20:24

Morrisons own peanut butter is 100% peanut and Aldi's own Almond Butter is 100% almonds according to the labels.

HeeHawSeeSaw · 11/05/2021 20:30

@Cocksinsocks @TedsWeeDonkey do they say anything like not suitable for other nut allergy sufferers? The products could be 100% peanut/almond but if it is made in a factory that handles say cashews or pistacios , then it will not be safe for dc to have it due to small traces of these nuts cross-contaminating the peanut /almond butters

Did the doctor not have suggestions if introducing other nuts are so important! Why not avoid all? I would go into a shop and look. Sorry not to be more help

LER83 · 11/05/2021 20:44

I've got meridian peanut butter which is 100% peanut. Just looked at the label and it says not suitable for other nut allergy sufferers. Doesn't say why. Try pip and nut, you could probably email them and ask (although they do have some info in the q&a section).

HeeHawSeeSaw · 11/05/2021 20:44

@Cocksinsocks yes they did. They said its important in order to avoid her developing allergies to the other nuts Confused

Hi OP, if you are on Facebook try joining the group "UK parents of children with nut & peanut allergies". It's very helpful and I'm sure I've seen similar questions asked before on it.

Cocksinsocks · 11/05/2021 21:12

Sounds tough op. I'd definitely find a community with experience like the Facebook page a pp has suggested.

As I said upthread I reckon loads of companies will just be covering their arses saying not suitable for other nut allergy sufferers.

I'm not sure how powerful a blender you'd need to make your own? If crunchy texture op my Kenwood mini mixer would be fine. But good luck finding raw ingredients that dont have similar nut disclaimers

Fabuleuse · 11/05/2021 21:18

I had a quick look and saw Pics and Skippy recommended for peanut butter free from tree nuts, and Barney almond butter was mentioned but please double check! We are peanut allergy only but were told to avoid all nuts.

Ulelia · 11/05/2021 21:22

If you have a zero waste or refill or vegan whole foods shop near you they may well make their own nut butters. I get peanut and almon butter from ours and it's delicious

Pinkstars2501 · 11/05/2021 21:24

Pip & Nut and Whole Earth both say just peanuts and salt (only in the Pip one) in the ingredients.

I get those normally

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 11/05/2021 21:26

Definitely join relevant FB groups where you'll get loads of suggestions.

Cross contamination is a serious risk so you need to avoid any 'may contain' your child's allergen warnings. Allergy groups are also good for sharing alerts of products that are mis-labelled etc too.

Do you have epipens for just in case?

HeeHawSeeSaw · 12/05/2021 14:20

Thank you all for replying. I will see if there are any Facebook groups that I could join.
@ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn yes, we've just been given a couple of epipens.

Homemade almond butter is delish - whole, skin on almonds, toast in the oven for about 8 mins, wang in the blender with a bit of salt. Blend until it’s the consistency you like (takes a few mins). Guess it’d work with other nuts too.

ItWasLikeThatWhenIGotHere · 12/05/2021 15:15

Making the butter yourself doesn’t guarantee lack of contamination unless the nuts you buy are also free of contamination. A quick check on Ocado shows that a lot of bags of plain peanuts and almonds carry a “may contain traces of other nuts” warning because they come from processing plants which also process other nuts.

Can you just buy some whole nuts and roast them, then squash them with the end of a rolling pin? Or a pestle and mortar if you have one? Then just put one mashed nut into whatever your DC is eating anyway? Like a mashed peanut hiding in pureed carrots or whatever?
S/he won't notice it's there, but your purpose is to avoid them becoming allergic rather than to make them like the taste, so it won't matter will it? There's plenty of time to enjoy the taste later!
