Hi – I’ve got a bit bored with my podcast selection. Can anyone help me with something fresh? I love listening to podcasts while I do the housework or go out for a run. My favourite to date have been the Michelle Obama series, Americast, Reasons to be cheerful, this American life and I sometimes find a good Ted Talk.

Can anyone suggest something new? I’d quite like to get stuck into something, but can’t really find anything at the moment – all just seems to be endless interviews and I’m getting a bit bored with that format.

Thank you thank you!

The Taskmaster podcast with Ed Gamble is very funny.

Also Wolf and Owl with Romesh Ranganathan and Tom Davies. Contains quite a lot of swearing though, so not for the esily offended.

Are there any podcasts I can play within earshot of teens and tweens?

NoSquirrels · 08/05/2021 13:42

I like By the Book - two hosts live by various self-help books for 2 weeks and discuss. Very funny! I’d start at the beginning.

Also Happier by Gretchen Rubin - formulaic but I like it.

I know you said no interviews but David Tennant Does A Podcast has had some fascinating insights into creative folk.

Then most of the true crime stuff has been mentioned. Guru is maybe one that hasn’t?

Fishlegs · 08/05/2021 13:42

I enjoyed the Michelle Obama podcast, and now I’m listening to Renegades: born in the USA, which is basically Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen shooting the breeze. It’s funny but thought-provoking.

I’m really enjoying red handed at the moment. I love true crime genre.

The moth is also really easy listening.

Brilliant brilliant, thank you so much! A whole new list of podcasts to explore. Exciting!!
I just remembered I enjoyed Cautionary Tales by Tim Harford and also quite like More or Less and Last Word from Radio 4.
Happy Listening 😊

Lockdown Parenting Hell is another good one. Its Josh Widdicombe and Rob Beckett interviewing various people about parenting in lockdown.

Tommy, Hector & Laurita is a good one. Maybe more for Irish mumsnetters.

You're dead to me is excellent as mentioned above.

The good the baz and the ugly is decent. Baz Ashmawy (from 50 ways to kill your mammy).

Thirtyrock39 · 08/05/2021 18:26

My favourites are:-
You're wrong about - really informative and funny at the same time and really makes you see things in a new way . I'd recommend starting with one of the Diana episodes or the oj Simpson ones, also topics like stranger danger, disco, Stockholm syndrome

The other one I've loved recently is sentimental in the city - proper snorting laughing in the car type of podcast

Escapetothecounty · 08/05/2021 19:07

If you've got young children then Lockdown Parenting Hell with Rob Beckett and Josh Widdecombe.

If you were a fan of The High Low then the 'Sentimental in the City' miniseries of Sentimental Garbage with Dolly Alderton and Caroline O'Donoghue. Never thought I'd be able to listen to 2 people talk about Sex and the City for 20 hours but I was hooked Grin

Escapetothecounty · 08/05/2021 19:07

Ooh also the 'Freshwater Five' miniseries of The Guardian Today in Focus was gripping

StopThisTrain28 · 08/05/2021 19:09

Another vote for you’re wrong about. It’s fascinating and very informative

SugarCrash1 · 08/05/2021 19:21

The Political Party - Matt Forde
Presidential by the Washington Post - there’s one about each US president
Moonrise - Washington Post (history of the space race)
For the Many - Iain Dale and Jacqui Smith
No Stupid Questions- Freakonomics radio

Wouldbecatowner · 08/05/2021 19:23

If you like This American Life, I highly recommend 99% Invisible - it’s supposedly about design and architecture but the content is much much more diverse than that - each episode is about some random but surprisingly engaging topic - some I’ve listened to recently involve container ships abandoned at sea, snake bite antivenom, aircraft safety cards and the origin of the song ‘who let the dogs out’. The host also has the most soothing voice!

Wouldbecatowner · 08/05/2021 19:24

And for True Crime that’s not sleazy and sensationalist, I recommend In The Dark.

bonfireheart · 08/05/2021 19:24

@indigoemerald I only discovered it a few months ago and have started from the beginning, helped my mental health so much during lockdown. And it's also helped me get walking too cos I put on my headphones and spend 40 minutes listening to episodes.

VerbenaGirl · 08/05/2021 19:26

My DH laughs out loud shagged, married, annoyed by Chris and Rosie Ramsey. I have loved Obsessed by Line of Duty.

millenialblush · 08/05/2021 19:27

Off menu is hilarious, I absolutely love it.

I used to be addicted to my favourite murder, and enjoy listening to the old episodes. But they've gone a bit 'woke' recently.

Advice54321 · 08/05/2021 19:29

Another vote for shagged, married annoyed!

poorbuthappy · 08/05/2021 19:33

Absolutely recommend 99% invisible.
Also if you do like Line of Duty listen to Shrine of Duty. Very entertaining.

AuntMasha · 08/05/2021 19:36

Redhanded is f*ing great!

waltzingparrot · 08/05/2021 19:50

If you like history, BBC Sounds has a series called Tunnel 29. Fascinating, moving stuff.
