What do you cook in your air fryer?

And which one shall I buy?

I really want one for doing homemade chicken nuggets and chips that aren’t cooked in loads of oil but need to convince DP that it would be useful for other things as well!

They also seem to vary massively in price so any recommendations would be welcome.

I have recently got a ninja health grill/air fryer and use it all the time.
Sausages, bacon, fish fingers, french beans, roast veg. Really versatile and clean but a little noisy, would highly recommend

I can't remember what one we have but we cook loads in it.

Chips, nuggets, chicken wings, (any sort of freezer food) sausages, pastries, potato scones.

Chips are the best. Chips are worth it alone

Adult DS bought one. Apparently chips take ages but he’s not hugely patient. I’m considering borrowing it when I can visit, as it’s languishing on top of one of his cupboards.

Eightiesfan · 07/05/2021 19:07

I got one from Lakeland but the capacity is so small it would take ages to air fry enough food for a family of four. However, I do use it to make scotch eggs and it’s brilliant although we can only fit 3 at a time, but they come out beautifully crispy!

ElderMillennial · 07/05/2021 19:12

Chips
Jacket potatoes (nice and crispy)

Fish fingers
Chicken strips
Heating up bread rolls or sausage rolls

It's like an oven but faster

coodawoodashooda · 07/05/2021 19:15

Is it really worth the money?

ElderMillennial · 07/05/2021 19:17

@coodawoodashooda

Is it really worth the money?
It depends how much you're paying and what your budget is but we've had ours about four years and we use it a lot. I think it cost about £100 but it's worth more.

We've got the Phillips one.

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 07/05/2021 19:20

I have the instant pot vortex. I can roast a chicken in an hour, 30 mins breast down then 30 mins right way up
I do loads of roasted veg either as a side, with pasta and salad or blended for sauce
Wedges
Salmon
Chicken beast with topping
Anything you do in the oven is improved in the airfryer

Fivemoreminutes1 · 07/05/2021 19:21

Falafel
Fish and chips

ittakes2 · 07/05/2021 19:24

We have a ninja (foodie I think). It does roast potatoes so quickly and my husband prefers them to the ones done in the aga.

UmamiMammy · 07/05/2021 21:10

I have this one from Wilkinsons
www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-4l-air-fryer-with-removable-basket/p/0445306

I use it for chips, nuggets, fish fingers, scampi, battered or breaded fish, chicken kiev, hash browns, warming a pie or pasty, crisping up onion bhajis, samosa, spring rolls, onion rings are fab!
I bought a kebab rack and make satay, chicken tika, and spicy prawns. I also make my own breaded chicken. I tried cooking salmon fillets last week and that was a great sucess.
I make my own roast parsnips and roast potatoes too.

UmamiMammy · 07/05/2021 21:13

I should have added that I can cook a whole chicken in mine which is amazing.
I wouldn't want one smaller than 4 L

BurbageBrook · 07/05/2021 21:17

I cook so much in mine. Courgettes, roast carrots, sweet potato fries, mushrooms, sausages, kale (to make a crispy snack), halved roast new potatoes, oven chips... the list goes on! I have a Tefal one.

FizzyPink · 07/05/2021 22:05

Oh wow this is promising!

I saw that the Wilko one was rated the best budget one in a few online reviews so might start with that and then upgrade if we get lots of use out of it.

Roasted carrots are lovely
They improve the taste of food so much
You should get one just for what they do to bacon 🥓😋

FutureDays · 07/05/2021 22:10

I've got a power xl one I got from argos, love it, I cook scotch eggs in it, whole chicken, steak, fried chicken, also the usual chips, sausages, belly pork.
It's one of my favourite things in my kitchen

Neonprint · 07/05/2021 22:28

We use ours almost daily. For all sorts. It's basically a really hot little oven.

It's great for roasting veg as it gets it caramelise quickly.

viixie · 07/05/2021 22:31

@ElderMillennial wow never thought of putting a jacket potato in an air fryer, how long does it take ?

JumpLeadsForTwo · 07/05/2021 22:36

Sweet potato fries are ace. Just got the ninja one and am experimenting!

coodawoodashooda · 07/05/2021 22:57

Does it encourage you to be unhealthy?

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 08/05/2021 00:58

I love our air fryer, we use it to cook...

Bacon
Sausages
Chicken
Salmon
Fish fingers
Chips
Roast potatoes
Roast veg like carrots, peppers, onions, courgettes
Jacket potatoes
Spring rolls (pre made frozen ones from Costco Grin)

I want to try making French toast in it this weekend.

Hawkmoth · 08/05/2021 01:04

Peppers in it are amazing.

I use it for quite a bit of normal stuff as I'm waiting for gallbladder removal so eating as little fat as possible. Tomorrow trying spiralized potato fries. Also on the list is mushrooms.

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 08/05/2021 01:05

@viixie

About 40 minutes for jacket potatoes. Roast potatoes only take 20 minutes, which still amazes me!

ElderMillennial · 08/05/2021 08:17

@viixie I put them in for about 40 mins too but depends on sizes. It's much quicker than the oven and I like to cook them until the skin goes crispy.

I'm sure it's cheaper than putting the oven on too.
