Bollocks. DD sent home from nursery with a fever. Covid test booked for tomorrow at 9am. The results won't be back in time for polls closing will they Hmm

I wouldn't worry. Your one vote won't make any difference!

Onefelloutofthecuckoonest · 05/05/2021 18:44

Check with your electoral office - you may be able to appoint an emergency proxy tomorrow . (In my district you can appoint an emergency proxy up to 5pm on the day of the election)

BoomChicka · 05/05/2021 18:44

I didn't even realise there was a vote tomorrow, I haven't had any flyers through or door knockers, I moved here in October so no idea who the candidates are or where the polling station is. Looks like I won't be voting this time.

MorgenMuffel · 05/05/2021 18:45

You should be able to get an emergency proxy

genome · 05/05/2021 18:45

You can apply for an emergency proxy vote up until 5pm on voting day.

You are allowed to keep yourself informed and do your own research you know

That’s the spirit!
SoMuchForSummerLove · 05/05/2021 18:49

I got my results yesterday in 12 hours so you never know! 9am test and results came in at 8.30pm.

Topseyt · 05/05/2021 18:49

Results can be back very quickly. I knew someone who had theirs the same day, in fact within just a few hours.

Polling stations are open until 10 so you may well be fine if negative.

Frazzled2207 · 05/05/2021 18:50

Leave your dd at home but no way would I not vote in this situation (extremely unlikely your dd has Covid unless there are known cases at the nursery?)
Emergency proxy is prob best thing to do though.

It’s very likely you have local government elections tomorrow. Are you registered to vote at your new address? If so you should def do your research and go, IMO

I have to say that this would be my approach too. I would absolutely go and vote.

You'll be wearing a mask and you are generally very well distanced from others in a polling station. I've never been to a crowded one and you are in and out in a few minutes.

Just do it.

LudoBear · 05/05/2021 19:25

This is ridiculous. Your daughter needs you. She is poorly. What kind of a mother would leave her poorly child at home, to go and vote? As I said, your vote will make zero difference.

Hmm heaven forfend a child is left with another appropriate caregiver whilst her mother partakes in democracy! Why even bother giving women the vote, eh?
LudoBear · 05/05/2021 19:31

Meh. Nobody needs to vote. It's completely outdated. Should be one government who do exactly as they say they are going to.

olderthanyouthink · 05/05/2021 19:35

I swabbed DD at Midday last Tuesday and had the results on Wednesday morning in time to send her to nursery

CommunistLegoBloc · 05/05/2021 19:35

Hey @LudoBear, do you know what it's called when people don't vote for those in charge?

Also the more shocking thing was criticising someone as a mother for wanting to go and vote. What a dick move.

olderthanyouthink · 05/05/2021 19:37

Oh I thought you'd get her tested today, damn.

Is there someone else at home you can take turns voting with?

She has a fever for goodness sake. Of course OP can leave her for a short while to vote Hmm

Hahaha! Very good! Grin

I'm sure the suffragettes will be applauding from their graves for your sheer dedication to mothering.

Yes - this is doable
RedcurrantPuff · 05/05/2021 19:40

I suppose the problem with getting an emergency caregiver , swapping with partner etc is that everyone has to stay at home until the result is back.

I seem to think there’s such a thing as an emergency proxy, can you look into that?

OublietteBravo · 05/05/2021 19:44

We’re also self-isolating. I applied for an emergency proxy vote today. It was really straightforward - I just filled in the form and sent a photo to the local electoral office. The most difficult bit was finding someone local who wasn’t self-isolating to nominate as my proxy.

HoppyHop · 05/05/2021 19:47

Call your local election office (usually within your local council) first thing tomorrow and they will arrange an emergency proxy vote for you (assuming you've got someone who can go in your place). It happens at every vote and your polling station will be set up to deal with it. They are expecting quite a few cases of this tomorrow (I am working at a polling station tomorrow and we've had extra training on this).

DrHWeasley · 05/05/2021 20:15

Ah thanks, I'll look into sorting a proxy.

It's actually not 'just one vote' either, it's 6- 3 for me and 3 for DH.

I assume LudoBear is a troll tbh, surely no one is actually that stupid 🤷🏼‍♀️
