What shortages do you notice in the shops?

I can't remember where I bought a glass bottle of Coca Cola Yalang Yalang a while ago, I now can't find it anywhere.

Americans are apparently experiencing a shortage of chicken.

Are shortages sorted now, are we still in 'Feed the nation' mode?

I haven't noticed a shortage of anything I needed or wanted yet.
I went to Waitrose and Lidl on Friday and got everything I needed ( as well as things I didn't really need, just fancied!)

@GiveTheGirlAGun

Not the same, but I went to Aldi and almost everything had a use by of that day or only 1 day. I didn't notice until I got home. A full shop wasted as nothing was freezable. I keep finding this.

@GiveTheGirlAGun what day did you go on? Aldi are fine on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you go on Saturdays it's hopeless.

Marmite seems to be a recurrent theme. Interesting to see 2tireds comment.

Nobody seemed to notice that the entire ferry fleet serving the Western Isles is knackered and in need of replacement, so there are fairly frequent shortages here. Some routes have been cancelled frequently, but there is an increase in traffic due to bastard campervans tourists, which combines nicely with the decreased capacity due to covid restrictions to make sure that you can never quite be sure what will be available and when. Bread is currently in sort supply, but milk is okay. Such fun!

Weird things like no 1 pint of milk. Only 2 or more. (Or metric equivalent)

Tesco had no whole cucumber on my online order last night. I ordered a "cucumber portion" instead. That got substituted with a green pepper Confused

Oooh yeah!

Lilt Zero. But that's always fucking off for no apparent reason.

@bunburyscucumbersandwich I went on a Friday morning, but not to my usual store which is always fine at that time.

They've been discontinued, I mourn their loss too.

Sainsbury have it, thank you. Yes I wondered if they had discontinued it as due to 'feed the nation'.

I’ve struggled to get cannellini beans, tomato purée, red peppers, and white wine vinegar with Ocado.

Yes I’ve noticed you can’t get one pinters of milk.
Random about marmite. I haven’t noticed but I tend to buy the big jars and haven’t had to replenish for a while , I knew it was made from brewers yeast but didn’t know lockdown had reduced production

@Snuzzle us too! I don’t really like green peppers so don’t like to buy the mixed packs if I can help it but haven’t been able to find red peppers only for weeks.

Chemenger · 03/05/2021 16:58

Red, yellow and orange peppers have been mainly absent from our Sainsbury's for weeks. Plenty of horrible green ones though. I suppose I could buy them and let them ripen - would they?

tobee · 03/05/2021 16:58

I don't know if it's any use to you @Franklyfrost, but I had problems with obtaining fennel seeds and so got a big (ish) packet from Amazon.

Most of the clothes on Tu online. Marmite, although I did find lots in Lidl. Cleaning products

Garden furniture! Been looking to upgrade our near 20 year old battered set but NOWHERE has any (unless you want to spend thousands of course).

The only cat food my fussy cat will eat is the Purina sensitive pallet stuff, luckily I was able to get some from Amazon.

What I have noticed is tesco stuff will disappear off the shelves for a few weeks, then reappear at the same price but smaller volume. Cf'ers

Tesco never seems to have much in the way of salad (only shop online, not sure what it's like in store)

Obviously coke flavoured with ylang-ylang

Don’t be a twat. You knew what the OP meant

I knew the OP meant ylang-ylang, but I still would have asked what on earth it was a I've never seen it or even heard of it. I assumed it was something not ordinarily available in the UK and as such a slightly odd thing for someone to say there is a shortage of.

this. i've never heard of it either. does that make me a twat too ?
