What shortages do you notice in the shops?

387 replies

PostLockdownLife · 03/05/2021 16:03

I can't remember where I bought a glass bottle of Coca Cola Yalang Yalang a while ago, I now can't find it anywhere.

Americans are apparently experiencing a shortage of chicken.

Are shortages sorted now, are we still in 'Feed the nation' mode?

@Bramshott
There is one for free on Nextdoor from the place with your user name - if you are still local. I think we met on the dreamers thread many moons ago.

I haven’t been able to get Worcestshire sauce or 5% beef mince from Tesco for weeks. They keep sending 20% which is double the calories so annoying for me trying to stay within a daily limit

@Gothichouse40

Strangely like a previous poster, bin liners. What on earth is going on with them? During the panic buy I could not get them and now cannot. The other thing is disposable gloves, unless you wanted to pay £15 for a box of 50 I think it was-no thanks. I used to get 30 gloves for about £1.50 pre-Covid.

I've always used disposable gloves for various tasks, and struggled to get them at a reasonable price since covid. Try your local vets. I mentioned to the vet in passing and they sold me a box of surgical gloves for £10. There's approx 150 in the box so it's not terrible value.

I have a candle business and can confirm there is a huge wax shortage. It’s getting better now but December to March was seriously worrying as it was completely impossible to buy.

Glass containers and wax for candle making have been so difficult to get for about a year now.

Oatly batista milk is never in stock.

Haven’t read full thread yet, but I had an email from Sainsbury’s telling me that they were having trouble getting cat food in pouches. It’s so difficult as cats are such fussy eaters at the best of time.

@Thefamilybusiness, Co-op do a 1% fat milk. Think it has a purple top...£1.25 for 4 pints. Bought some last week.
@ChippyDucks150, wilko have it. It was on offer for £10 in the last week or 2 , but at normal price now(£14) that's for 5 litres. I only know bc I bought some about a week or 2 ago and when I went there 2 days ago they still had it in stock.

I've found that the own brand range of food is now often completely missing in many supermarkets, so they just have the more expensive premium brands available now.
I think the supermarkets have used this last year to slim down their own product ranges.

Wierdly at the moment you can't buy calor gas cannisters. We need one for our camper van preferably two so we can carry a spare. You can buy a full one if you exchange an empty one.

Try scrap yards for one....seriously. It’s what I did last week when I needed a bigger tank for a new gas torch. It was recommended by our local calor gas supplier.

The scrap yard had dozens!

It took me four different stores before I found green split peas. That really alarmed OH and even he said something must be wrong with the supply chain if we can’t find a basic item like that in the UK.

Windows and doors, I have a new finished kitchen with window openings blocked with plywood. The sizes were bespoke so I can't find them elsewhere, may arrive by September.
