Self cleaning oven

I've never had an oven with this feature before. Is there anything in particular that I need to know about using it?

Can I leave the trays in so they clean too?

The kitchen and living room are open plan so can I do it while I'm in, with dogs here?

*Sorry forgot to say, I use one of those oven clean kits (the ones with toxic chemicals in a bag) on the brackets. Just chuck them in for a few hours/overnight.

The oven itself isnt that dirty, it's the trays and rack inside it that I want to clean more.

They take no time at all in those cleaning bags. Pop them in a bag overnight, wipe everything off in the morning. Oven Bright I think they're called.
