Boring but nosy q: what time you you eat dinner?

Or have your tea Grin

We have our main meal at around 5.30- 6pm, always have done.

I know from on here that some people like to eat much later, I’m fascinated by that as I’d be super hangry by 8pm but I appreciate people with long commutes might not get home until then.

Anyway, in the interests of my nosiness, what time do you eat and why?

Ours is that time because it’s the way we were both brought up and it always fitted around the kids and evening activities. Even though the kids are older and I work several evenings a week we’ve stuck to it.

Just me and my husband. I get in from work at 5.30 but I tend to spend a while actually prepping and cooking. Since I've been pregnant I'm all about the quick meals and normally eat around 7 now I guess

At about 6.30 - 7.

I'm in all day and do most of the cooking so it's easy to be ready, dh gets home around then, depending on traffic, and teenagers who still live here are back from college/work by then, but it's enough time before ds goes off to training 3 days a week. Dc are 17 and 19.

Dh often cooks on his day off, and we get a takeaway Friday or Saturday. Try to eat together most nights but takeout tends to be in front of the tv.

The one we insist on is Sunday dinner, when dh isn't working weekends. Tonight, dd2 has made pizza for herself and ds and I have been to the chippy.

Kids at 5. Sometimes we eat with them, sometimes it’s more like 6. Very rarely eat later than that. Just what fits with life at the moment and when people are hungry (lunch at the children’s school is 11:45 and 12 for their classes). It will probably all change once school stops spacing out lunch sittings so much and DH goes back to the office and a longer commute.

I work night shifts and eat my dinner around 1:30am Blush

When I'm off, I'll eat my dinner about 4pm. I'm probably the worst person to answer this as my body clock is so up in the air 24/7!

All eat together never earlier than 8:30pm. But I no longer live in the UK. So for where I live we eat very early 😃

Chickydoo · 02/05/2021 18:47

7.30pm

I have my evening meal between 5 and 6. I'm self employed WFH (always have been) and I get up, do an hour or so of work, then get the housework done and sit down with a brew and some toast around lunchtime. Then I'll put 4 solid hours in, eat early and occasionally another hour or so after I've eaten. It fits perfectly for me.

5-5.530 I hate eating late,, it disturbs my sleep, I rarely eat anything afterwards,

JanuaryJonez · 02/05/2021 19:35

My parents (European dad though) always served dinner between 7.30 to 8pm and we've done the same since the DCs were old enough.

OhWhyNot · 02/05/2021 19:37

830 ish

Ds has a snack when he gets home from school

We have always eaten quite late

picturesandpickles · 02/05/2021 19:38

So variable in our house, so between 4:30-6:30.

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 02/05/2021 19:40

7.30-8.30 ish - most days it's around 8pm. We're doing well if we're sat down to eat at half 7 (we don't have any kids)

When i was growing up we ate at 6pm on the dot every night as that's when my dad got home from work.

Grognonne · 02/05/2021 19:52

Between 2100-2130 during the week. Later at weekends. In the summer, sometimes early if we have a bbq to enjoy the sun, then cheese around 2230.

HelenHywater · 03/05/2021 11:34

We aim for 7 but it's often 7.30-8. Like a pp one benefit of the pandemic is that we've started eating together every night and it's a habit that's stuck. It's so nice for us all to come together (my children at home are aged 8-18).
