Boring but nosy q: what time you you eat dinner?

JensonsAcolyte · 02/05/2021 13:18

Or have your tea Grin

We have our main meal at around 5.30- 6pm, always have done.

I know from on here that some people like to eat much later, I’m fascinated by that as I’d be super hangry by 8pm but I appreciate people with long commutes might not get home until then.

Anyway, in the interests of my nosiness, what time do you eat and why?

Ours is that time because it’s the way we were both brought up and it always fitted around the kids and evening activities. Even though the kids are older and I work several evenings a week we’ve stuck to it.

Mon - Fri
Children eat their dinner at 5.30pm
Dh and ds1 (if home from uni/lockdown) 8.30pm

Saturday
They all eat at 6pm
Sunday
Almost always a roast at 1pm. Children then have sandwiches and a pudding around 6pm.
Dh (Ds1 if home) will have something around 8 or whenever.

Caspianberg · 02/05/2021 16:57

Between 6-7pm usually. We have a 1 year old and all eat together.

Crockof · 02/05/2021 16:58

Normally 8pm for teenagers and parents because parents work and teenagers have sport/see friends. Teenagers Normally have a dinner sized snack when they come in from school

19thNamechange · 02/05/2021 16:59

6pm, us and our DC.

AuntieMarys · 02/05/2021 17:01

7pm

gurglebelly · 02/05/2021 17:08

About 6.30 - DH does a manual job and would be starving any later, and I get reflux if I eat within a couple of hours of bed time

Camomila · 02/05/2021 17:44

Around 6pm, we eat with the DC.

otterbaby · 02/05/2021 17:47

About 6 because we have a 6 month old and we all eat together. Used to be around 7:30ish.

Bomchiccawick · 02/05/2021 17:50

Before DS I’d cook as soon as I got home from work so probably 6-6:30pm. Now we have toddler DS I eat with him at 5pm (DH usually reheats his later). I love eating early, I get so hungry if I have to wait! We all eat the same meal I couldn’t be bothered with making children’s meals and adults meals, though DS isn’t fussy so that probably helps a lot.

Onedropbeat · 02/05/2021 17:51

I’d prefer to eat later because that’s when I feel like it, but need to eat earlier so I don’t end up going to bed on a full stomach or staying up too late

Kids eat at 6ish, sometimes we eat with them but I’m just not ready to eat a dinner by then.

I loved holidays pre kids when dinners were 9pm and just the start of long lazy evenings

BeyondMyWits · 02/05/2021 17:52

When the kids were young we'd all eat together about 5.30, as they got older it got later, so now late teens we eat around 7 unless someone has something they need to get out earlier for.

SquashMinusIsShit · 02/05/2021 17:53

5.30/6, used to be earlier but as DD is getting older it's got later. We all eat together & there's no wait I could wait much longer because I'm hungry by then.

We also have bath/spellings/reading to do so like to eat quite early

wendz86 · 02/05/2021 17:56

With the kids Friday-sunday 5pm. Mon - Thurs they eat at childminders and i either eat around 6 after i've got them or around 7.30-8 when my youngest is in bed.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 02/05/2021 17:58

Around 7/7.30pm, but no kids to consider (yet!).

Dollywilde · 02/05/2021 17:59

Currently on mat leave. 9 month old eats at 5.30 and we eat either at 7 or 8 depending on whether we’re chancing it after she’s in bed (8pm dinner is usually a weekend one because it feels far more treat-y eating without a baby!). Pre baby we ate at 7.30 nightly (we’d get home 6.45 usually) but that’s smack bang in her bedtime routine now.

Once I’m back at work we’ll probably go to 8pm all week as one of us will be commuting each day so whichever of us has been in London will get in at 6.45 and have time with the baby before kicking off the bedtime routine, while the one who has WFH that day will make dinner and enjoy the quiet 😂

TomHardyandMe · 02/05/2021 18:00

Usually eat breakfast between 1pm and 4pm (depending on work/when I’m hungry) and then dinner between 8:30pm and 10:30pm.

VioletCharlotte · 02/05/2021 18:01

It depends what I'm doing. DC young adults so we all tend to eat at different times. I guess normally 7.30/8 during the week as I normally go to the gym/ do yoga/ go for a walk most evenings. Tonight will be about 6.30.

ofwarren · 02/05/2021 18:01

Why the angry face at tea?
Dinner about 12:30
Tea about 5

duvets · 02/05/2021 18:03

Prefer to eat around 5:30pm or 6pm then we can get DD ready for bed with time to chill out by 7 or 8pm.

I like to eat early as it stops me eating too much due to being over hungry, and I feel more comfortable sleeping once food has gone down. Generally we all eat together but sometimes either me or DH are working later so will eat separately.

Pre kids we ate anywhere between 8-10pm depending on how elaborate the meal or how organised we were.

andymoan · 02/05/2021 18:08

My dd at 5 ish. Me between 7 and 9.

Yosami · 02/05/2021 18:09

Used to be bang on 6pm unless we/I had plans.

These days we eat when hungry. Had a fry up for lunch today so might not even eat again today. Other days where I haven't had dinner Iay have dinner at 4pm.

I don't live with my DP and although I have children at home - they are adults.

LarsErickssong · 02/05/2021 18:13

Same as you OP 5.30-6 as we were both brought up in households who ate at that time (tea on the table for when the man got home), I just start cooking as soon as I get in from work.

Notgoingonholiday · 02/05/2021 18:18

Btw 7 and 8 depending on how organised/busy we are. One positive of the pandemic has been that the 4 of us eat together nearly every night now, I love it. If we eat before 7 it would be because we are going out for the evening. Eating at 5 would feel like a late lunch and I'd be hungry again by 9 Grin

bobblesandbows · 02/05/2021 18:28

We're both teachers and I work at my kids' school. So food goes on as soon as we get home and we all eat together as a family between 5-5.30. When I was growing up though, my dad used to get home at 7 so we'd have a snack after school and wait to eat with him at about 7.30.

Arrierttyclock · 02/05/2021 18:32

By the time we've got in and cooked it's normally between 7.30-8 by the time we're eating
