How much is your weekly food shop?

Lelophants · 01/05/2021 21:30

Ours is around £150 which I know is a lot for 2 adults and a toddler Blush We are home for all meals and eat a lot it seems! We are also letting ourselves buy all sorts of food and enjoy that with covid and not spending on much else. If we needed to budget I would get it down though!

I wonder how much most people spend?

Just under £70 a week for 2 adults

RumHoney · 02/05/2021 09:21

£80 - £90 per week for two adults, bit WFH so all meals at home and both endurance athletes so we get through a lot of food (yesterday I ate something like 4500 calories and needed every one of them!). Includes household stuff, toiletries, vitamins and a bit of alcohol.

Larryslockdownlunch · 02/05/2021 09:23

£120ish for 7 of us including formula and nappies/ household/cleaning/toiletries etc
Problem is I only budget £100 😂

Foodisascience · 02/05/2021 10:14

£100 per week for 2 adults and 1 teen.

This does not include toiletries or cat food which we buy in bulk twice a year. This never includes alcohol either which is bought only very occasionally. I also go to a Chinese food store every 12 weeks and spend about £300.

So overall it’s £125 plus whatever the toiletries and cat food are so approx £135.

Milkywaystars · 02/05/2021 10:25

To all those spending £200-£300 weekly on groceries, what are you buying? Are you buying pre cooked chilled and ready made meals? I find that's what often pushes the price up plus alcohol. We cook from scratch so buy ingredients to cook with but we do buy frozen ready made for busy days.

FindingMeno · 02/05/2021 10:59

2 adults, 2 teenagers and dog. £120-£140 pw inc. cleaning items and toiletries.

JuicyMcJuiceFace · 02/05/2021 16:18

@Hyperion100 oh totally non mumsnet approved items I'm sure! I shop at m & s and I buy lots of ready chopped fresh fruit, berries, steak, salmon. Boxed pre prepared salads. Etc

We can afford it though so I appreciate we are lucky in that respect but I don't feel guilty or like I could make savings - I know I could but I prioritise nice food more than ever now after the crap year that was Covid

OrchidLass · 02/05/2021 16:24

About £200 for 2 adults and 2 teens. That's everything though.

OrchidLass · 02/05/2021 16:28

@Milkywaystars

No, I cook from scratch. I buy organic meat from a local butcher (which I know sounds very mumsnetty and middle class but you did ask). Probably spend £40 on a couple of bottles of half decent wine. It includes all cleaning/washing stuff and packed lunches for three of us too. I also bake a lot and that's not a cheap hobby, despite what people think.

TheCheeseBadge · 02/05/2021 16:35

We budget £500pcm for food, but that includes the fortnightly shops, take aways / eating out, toiletries, specialist dog food etc. We spend £250 on food today but that will last us most of the month, with a top up shop on 2 weeks for fruit and veg which will probably be about £50 max.

2 adults, 1 toddler and a dog

BSJohnson · 02/05/2021 16:35

About £150, usually, including toiletries, for two adults and two teenagers.

We don’t have takeaways, and I tend to buy organic versions of everything I can, which adds up quickly for meat, fruit and veg. Usually use Tesco and Sainsbury’s as that’s what’s closest.

When things were tight a couple of years ago, it was about £70 (Aldi, so not organic).

SeaTurtles92 · 02/05/2021 16:36

Around £80 a week and that's with my meat from my local butcher. 2 adults and toddler DS.

SeaTurtles92 · 02/05/2021 16:38

We also get a takeaway once a week so that's another £20ish.

kowari · 02/05/2021 16:39

£40 for an adult and a teen boy

TheChosenTwo · 02/05/2021 19:53

2 adults, 2 teens and a 9 year old boy with an adult sized appetite.
£250 a week give or take £20. Nothing precooked or ready meals, it’s about £170 on the online food shop and the remainder at the butcher.
Loads of treats, definitely lots of luxuries. I could cut it by half easily and we wouldn’t be hungry but we don’t want to.

ladywithnomanors · 02/05/2021 19:57

2 adults and 2 teens and an 11 year old.
We spend around £120 ish depending on who’s doing the shopping. DH can spend a lot more - he will buy expensive cuts of meat like legs of lamb that will bump the cost up. This isn’t including alcohol though.

tigerbread20 · 02/05/2021 20:02

Budget £70 for main shop, usually £10 on extra fruit and bread and a takeaway a fortnight.

2 adults and 2 young DC, I don't feel like I'm scrimping and saving when shopping. I think I'd struggle to spend over £100. How much food waste do you have?!

MsSquiz · 02/05/2021 20:06

My weekly food shop (2 adults, 1 toddler) is around £80-£100
We also often get a Gousto box which is around £25-£30
Plus a takeaway or eating out once a week anywhere from £20-£80 depending on what we get, including drinks, etc

Crimeismymiddlename · 02/05/2021 20:07

About £40 to £60 per week for just me. I eat all my meals home cooked and don’t skimp on anything, it is includes all toiletrys and household items as well. I have found that doing a big shop for things I actually enjoy has saved me loads as I never do little top up shops or get take away’s now. Still a little bit horrified every week though!

Libertyfree · 02/05/2021 22:26

If you spend £40-£80/week on food, what does that guy you?
By the time I’ve bought fruit/veg/bread/milk/cheese/eggs - it’s already £40.

Libertyfree · 02/05/2021 22:30

I’m genuinely interested in what people are buying for meals for the week that cost so little.

Oly4 · 02/05/2021 22:31

£200 two adults, 3 primary age DC. Includes two bottles of wine, cook from scratch, eat a load of nice fruit which racks it up

Peachypips78 · 02/05/2021 22:32

£100 on average. Two adults, two teenage boys. That is absolutely everything without any extra pops to the shops.

Inc four cans of beer and a bottle of wine every now and then - we aren't big drinkers.

Peachypips78 · 02/05/2021 22:32

Oh and a cat and a dog!
