SILENT REFLUX HELP!

leahmaysimmonds · 01/05/2021 20:08

My daughter is 8 months and there’s been a constant battle for her reflux since birth. I have tried everything for her reflux and nothing is working!

She has cmpa so we change to neocate lcp, I thought it would sort it from then as i thought her reflux was because of her allergy. I was told neocate is thinner than other formulas so the doctor recommended gaviscon. I tried gaviscon which didn’t work and seemed to give her a bad tummy. I then tried carobel but she had an allergic reaction to the soy. Thick and easy was next which was actually for 3+ years but doctor’s recommended it. That made her scream! So then I tried rice to thicken to milk and it made her cry and reflux flare up Confused I had enough so i put her on lansoprazole for a month which did absolutely nothing. She is now on omeprazole which is doing nothing but making her worse and not sleep!!
I burp her every 2 ounces and after, sit her upright 30 mins after feeding, give her reflux safe weaning foods and she sleeps upright with a wedge. All she does it wriggle in her sleep and hunch her back. It just seems to get worse and she gets older and I’ve had enough. What else can I do!!!?

Does she feed sitting up?

Sunny1112 · 01/05/2021 20:10

You tried kendamil milk?

leahmaysimmonds · 01/05/2021 20:14

@PaniniHead

Does she feed sitting up?

@Sunny1112

You tried kendamil milk?
It contains milk. She cannot have milk/soy xx

My son's 5 now but he too had it from birth till he was around 2.

We burped for the first burp , then we would continue for about 40 mins and the biggest huge burp would come up after that burp we knew he could lay down.

It gets tedious and trust me sometimes it was near on an hour of rubbing bouncing patting sitting upright over my arm .

It took us months , we tried everything !
In the end the only thing that helped were lactase drops and comfort milk from cow and gate x

MrsPatrickDempsey · 01/05/2021 20:17

What are her symptoms??
It's interesting that you have tried so much but none of it has worked so it does make me question if the diagnosis is right. Is under a paed and dietician?

lms2017 · 01/05/2021 20:18

Meant to say the burping part was the most important ! Think we used gripe water too.

The lactase helped but if cannot have milk then that won't x

whenwillsantagetvaccinated · 01/05/2021 20:20

Food journal?
Tongue Tie?
Private referral? Dr Neil Shah is supposed to be very good.

whenwillsantagetvaccinated · 01/05/2021 20:20

Oh and have you tried probiotics?

leahmaysimmonds · 01/05/2021 20:21

Hiya, I’ve tried that too. She does burp herself about an hour after feeding too. That still doesn’t help. Even when she’s laying on her back she will lift up her back. There’s really nothing I haven’t tried! I give up 😖 x

Also Dr Brown bottles changed everything for us .... Sorry for the many posts it keeps coming back to me it was a while ago now xx

leahmaysimmonds · 01/05/2021 20:22

She does have a posterior tongue tie but they said if it’s not interrupting with feeding it’s fine. They said it’s too late to do anything now. Since she was about 14 weeks I asked them to cut it and they said they can’t as she’s not under 12 weeks and she’s not breastfeeding

I have dr browns bottles. ☹️ X

My paediatrician asked the doctor to swap to neocate syneo which has probiotics which will be my last hope. I really don’t have any positivity of anything working anymore. I wish it’ll work but I can only hope.

Could it be gas further down ? I think that's what we used the gripe water for. His belly was quite gassy we used to have to move his legs round like riding a bike then pushing them up to tummy till he did the biggest farts ever !

I think the lactase drops were to help with sugar as he couldn't tolerate it might be worth a look X

leahmaysimmonds · 01/05/2021 20:26

Aching back when eating or in general
Unlatching moving head when feeding
Throwing head back
Wriggling in sleep hunching back
Doesn’t like to lay down wants to be upright
Doesn’t sleep properly
Sometimes will refuse food
When I try to get her to sleep she will just keep aggressively moving
Sleeps with head tilted back

She has silent reflux so she won’t throw up but she used to throw up her whole feeds

She’s 8 months old so has she rolled onto her tummy for sleeping? I wouldn’t have a wedge in the bed now, it’s not really safe.

When you say the doctor doesn’t believe she has CMPA...has she been properly diagnosed?

Sunny1112 · 01/05/2021 20:28

I had ranitidine for my LO and it changed him within hours. They don’t do it anymore but ask GP for the equivalent

I just spoke to my partner and he said nothing at all helped all the reflux meds etc , omeprazole etc until we used the above drops in the milk , have you tried this ? It's an enzyme our body's use to break down sugars. X

leahmaysimmonds · 01/05/2021 20:28

I thought it was gas for months and months but I tried everything for that before realising it was reflux
I have anti colic bottles, give her gripe water, burp her every 2 ounces and after, massage her, do bicycle kicks do tummy time. There is no lactose in her milk so there would be no point putting drops xx

OP posts:
leahmaysimmonds · 01/05/2021 20:29

She has a lactose free milk already xxx

OP posts:
leahmaysimmonds · 01/05/2021 20:36

Yep! I’ve put her on her tummy to sleep sometimes because she tries to do it herself, it’s more comfortable for her but sometimes she’ll lift her bum up and keep moving then will eventually wake up. I didn’t say doctor doesn’t believe she has cmpa. She’s been diagnosed by paediatrician for delayed reaction of cmpa x

OP posts:
leahmaysimmonds · 01/05/2021 20:37

I did and they told me about lansoprazole and omeprazole. I’ve tried both. X

leahmaysimmonds · 01/05/2021 20:45

I noticed she has black small specks in her poo and read it could be gastro distress. Is that not normal for babies with reflux?

Have you considered SMA alfamino rather than neocate? It improved things for us in a massively similar situation when neocate was having little effect. Probiotics can also work wonders - biogaia drops are great at that age. Good luck, it's grim but it will get better eventually ThanksThanks
