Just that really.
With the lockdown ending, I would like to explore more of England- are there any gems that you recommend? I have a 5yr old.
Thank you!

Keswick and the northern lakes
I love the beaches in Northumberland around Bamburgh

With a 5 year old you can't beat rock-pooling on the Pembrokeshire or North Devon and Cornwall coasts.

Cardingmill Valley near Shrewsbury is absolutely lovely for a little one too.

Pembrokeshire is in Wales though. OP asked about England.

Bath is fabulous, especially if you’re into history.

Personally, the Cotswolds! I love it there. I'd like to explore Kent, and East and West Sussex too.

For more things to do with a little one I would say Bath as the pp said, or York.

ViolaValentina · 30/04/2021 23:00

Northumberland. Gorgeous beaches and impressive castles, and not many people. Your 5yo would love it.

Chatanooga1 · 30/04/2021 23:02

I no longer live in England but when my children were young they loved visiting here -

Unreasonabubble · 30/04/2021 23:04

York! And go on the Ghost Hunt! Your 5 year old won't understand but you will love it! Also, lots of documented walks there too which your 5 year old may well enjoyl

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 30/04/2021 23:07

Are you ruling out Scotland and Wales? The Highlands is stunning to visit.

TheJackieWeaver · 30/04/2021 23:09

Northumberland. Beaches and castles. Then more beaches and more castles. My dc love it.

Kentuki · 30/04/2021 23:09

I really want to go to Shropshire. Or Herefordshire. Deep deep rural England. It’s not a recommendation but it’s where I’m heading when I can.

Titsywoo · 30/04/2021 23:10

Skomer Island

mumwon · 30/04/2021 23:34

Isle of Scilly - boat rides between each island beaches & less touristy than the rest of UK
Isle of Wight - England in miniature -one of the best, if not the best! , miniature villages (Godshill) & Blackgang Chine which is another small kind of theme park, each ofthe little towns/villages on the coast have a different feel, the Needles & Alum Bay, there was a glass making craft place which you could visit, & lots of other places all close by - plenty to do & see & lots I haven't mentioned!
Norfolk -Hunstanton & surrounds beaches & cliffs & Castle Rising & windmills that grind flour & sell bread & cakes & scones, Sandringham with its woods & gardens - Sea life Centre etc.

RusholmeRuffian · 01/05/2021 08:51

Another vote for Northumberland

FrenchBoule · 01/05/2021 09:30

Lost Gardens of Heligan. I researched the area a few years back, there was also an owl sanctuary nearby ( I love owls) and a few other attractions.

BikeRunSki · 01/05/2021 09:50

Whitby

On my way to Northumberland!!

StormyLovesOdd · 01/05/2021 10:57

I want to go to Whitby too, never been but I love the Dracula's books and I think they're lots of reference to places in that area

BearSoFair · 01/05/2021 11:04

Whitby - can't really say it's a recommendation because we haven't been ourselves but we always say we will...and then never actually go!

Thatisnotwhatisaid · 01/05/2021 11:16

London
Whitby
Lake District (mainly Windermere, Ennerdale and St Bees)
Dalby forest

Puttingouthefirewithgasoline · 01/05/2021 12:24

In terms of perfect seaside town, safe beach and enough to do near by, swanage.

Beautiful area, steam train, Corfe Castle.. Pretty villages, Kimmeridge beach (fossil) Lulworth cove, old Harry rocks, Studland.
Can't beat it and on the drive down, horses in the new foeresst.
