I'm having 2 wisdom teeth removed in an hour under sedation, and I've only now just realised I haven't got anything soft in to eat over the weekend, il be sending dh out to buy some stuff later, can you throw some food ideas at me? I also have coeliac disease so most soups are off the list. Thank you Wine

I ate a cheese sandwich later the same afternoon!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 30/04/2021 10:20

I had chips. Don't make my mistake of eating rice on day 2.

rufusdufus8 · 30/04/2021 10:29

I had a wisdom tooth removed on Tuesday. I also had a cheese sandwich later in the day and the day after I ate what I normally would just very carefully and on the other side.

Retired anaesthetist here. We used to give yogurt to the patients in the recovery room after GA surgical removal of difficult wisdom teeth.
You can liquidise quite a few foods at home, too.
However, if you are having your teeth done just under sedation, they are likely to be easy extractions, not requiring bone removal or an oral surgeon, just your normal dentist - so you will probably be able to eat fairly normally, albeit chewing at the front with your incisors rather than at the back with the molars in front of your empty sockets.

SwanShaped · 30/04/2021 10:37

Can I ask why you’re getting them removed? Mine have been on and off infected for years and I’m terrified of the thought of having them out.

HarleyQuinnn · 30/04/2021 10:40

@Babdoc I do have to have my jaw drilled, the tooth is impacted, and it's being done by a surgeon, my trigeminal nerve could be damaged as it is awfully close back wisdom tooth that's being removed, and the tooth has an extra root on it that could snap off lol. I don't know why it's only being done under sedation, I had to push for that as it is.

Thanks for the suggestions though! Il get dh to get in the stuff for a cheese Sandwich just incase! And il get yogurts and chips.

@SwanShaped I've had four infections between September-March, in my lower right one, and there's complications with my nerve too, and I found out at my last appointment that the upper one needs to come out as it's going into my cheek and they surgeon thinks it's the best option I just get it done at the same time. Also my mouth apparently just too small. Although DH would disagree

I had all four wisdom teeth removed under GA a few years ago.

Put it this way, it was quite some time before I could look a yoghurt in the face again.

SwanShaped · 30/04/2021 10:47

Ok, I hope it all goes ok. I’m sure it will. I’m just a massive wuss with the dentist and can’t quite bring myself to book in to dental hospital.

M0rT · 30/04/2021 10:50

I have had an impacted wisdom tooth removed, I ate Liga and Rusks mashed up with warm water.
Also custard and after the first 24hrs ice-cream and yoghurts.
Mashed banana, jelly all the foods you used to give a weaning baby basically Smile

fizzyp0p · 30/04/2021 10:52

Just don't eat anything with seeds or rice as mentioned above. I ate lots of mashed potatoes.

BeastOfBODMAS · 30/04/2021 10:54

I enjoyed a very soft cottage pie after I had a tooth out. Moong dahl & spinach (without rice!) and cauliflower cheese also featured.

I used the text to voice feature on my phone to issue instructions to DH Grin

HarleyQuinnn · 30/04/2021 11:13

Oh yes cauliflower cheese sounds lovely, and the jelly, Good ideas here, I'm on my way there now, thanks for the ideas. Can't wait for a coffee though Grin

I used the blender to make smoothies - no strawbs though, too may pips!

TuvoknotSpock · 30/04/2021 11:24

Jelly, lots of jelly

quirkychick · 30/04/2021 11:28

Good luck, I had one out in November. As above, I ate quite a bit of smoothies. You could just blend up meals, I think I had pureed food and moved onto mashed food. Mine took a while to heal, as the gum had been infected despite strong antibiotics (lockdown meant I couldn't get it sorted earlier), so I was on soft food for quite a while.

Babdoc · 30/04/2021 17:35

Hope all goes well, OP. I used to anaesthetise a GA list every week for difficult wisdom teeth in my hospital - it seems unkind that you are having to undergo it with just sedation. However, they will perform local anaesthetic blocks, which help a lot.
I had my own lower wisdom teeth done under local at the end of one of my lists, and didn’t feel a thing, but they were just simple lift outs. (A favour by my oral surgeon, to save me the cost of a dentist!)

Boscoforever · 30/04/2021 18:40

I had all four removed in one go, twenty-five years ago, under GA.
Had an McDs on the way home, was given a week off work. Never had a bruise or twinge, could eat anything and everything. The stitches were a little annoying though, food got stuck in them and I had a bad taste in my mouth, but once they were out was grand.
Hope it went well.

HarleyQuinnn · 30/04/2021 19:13

It went ok, the extra root on the bottom tooth snapped off and they were unable to find it, but other than that, it was ok. They said they have me sedation but I'm unsure on that because I was fully awake, aware and with it throughout the whole thing, and I was able to go pretty much straight away. I'm sore, and I have a very swollen cheek, I look like a lopsided hamster Grin

Oh bless you, leaving behind the pain of an impacted wisdom tooth is such a relief!! I had 3 out under GA and spent a week living on pesto mash with melty cheese. Which was a pretty good week to be honest! I also had a really perverse craving for pork scratchings, which I've never quite understood...

JorisBonson · 30/04/2021 19:26

All 4 out under GA, I lived on mash and gravy for a week and it was brilliant

romdowa · 30/04/2021 19:29

After having 2 of mine out under ga I lived on home made soup and mash potatoes for two days. I was mainly fine then after that

Namechangedforthistoday · 30/04/2021 19:33

I don’t know if you’ve been told but I was advised against using a straw while recovering from the procedure. There is a risk you can dislodge the clot which forms and end up with dry socket which can be particularly painful.

Watto1 · 30/04/2021 19:36

When I had mine out, I was advised room temperature food only. Nothing hot or cold. Avoid ‘bitty’ or crumbly food as you don’t want crumbs or anything like rice going in the holes.

Watto1 · 30/04/2021 19:36

Yes, I was advised against a straw too.
