The white house directly opposite the pub. Too close right?

Never mind the pub, it's right on the road, no place to park. It's a no way for me.

Youdontknowwhatyoureonabout · 28/04/2021 09:50

Depends. If it’s more an eating type of place then there possibly won’t be too much noise but if it’s a drinkers pub then there could be lots of noise as people leave & stand around chatting.
If you don’t tend to go to bed until late then it will be fine and it would be lovely to just be able to pop across the road for a drink.

SeventyEleven · 28/04/2021 09:51

I’d love to live that close to the pub.

CarmelBeach · 28/04/2021 09:56

Depends on you really!

We live near one and was fine years ago, but then they got a licence for music nights and speakers outside. So now we have to gird ourselves for late noise Friday and Saturday.

daisybrown37 · 28/04/2021 10:03

Hard to say - depends on the pub? I know Chesham a little and can see that this pub is still closed so you won’t be able to judge until it reopens next month.

The House has sold a number of time over the years, every 3-4 years. This may be because of needing more space if they have a growing family.

Good schools around their though!

daisybrown37 · 28/04/2021 10:03

*there...

ArtfulScreamer · 28/04/2021 12:26

Yes once the location holds a licence it's difficult for it to be withdrawn so what starts off as a nice foodie pub with a middle aged crowd could undergo change of ownership be rebranded as a trendy alcopop bar for youngsters.

Chatanooga1 · 28/04/2021 12:31

Noise from the beer garden and people parking nearby would put me off.

More importantly though is the door opening so close to the road I’d you have dogs or small children.

Chatanooga1 · 28/04/2021 12:31

^^ if

Fashionablylate1999 · 28/04/2021 12:33

I live nearby, that road is really narrow, I always worry someone is going to drive into one of the houses every time I drive down it

Notable · 28/04/2021 12:33

I live this close to the pub.

Granted I also work there so I have skin in the game but basically I love it. I think it depends entirely on what kind of pub it is.

Please excuse my filthy window Blush

FedNlanders · 28/04/2021 12:34

Nope. Road and pub.

AlmostSummer21 · 28/04/2021 12:43

I wouldn't because selfish/stupid people really wind me up and even the ones who aren't just being fairly 'normal' but a bit inconsiderate start to get on your wick too. Then there's the owners/managers who can be REALLY inconsiderate/selfish...

Unless you sleep like a deaf log don't do it.

Night John, yeah night Sarah, we must do it again soon! Oh Dave, I forgot to tell you about Phil, you know he had that .....

Slam car doors

50 other patron leave & do the same...

An hour later the bulk of the staff leave,,, chat crash bang chat bang slam shout goid night...

An hour later the manager leaves slamming the doors, scraping the plants in pots to under the windowsills. Calls goid night to passers by. Remembers he forgot something bash bang bash bang, & repeat as he comes out and them slams the car door.

People walk past & get loud about all kinds of stupid shit , whinging the pub is fucking shut. Bastards...

Honestly it's fucking relentless.

Lou98 · 28/04/2021 12:44

I've lived directly across from a pub before, one that was very much quiet during the week but Friday/Saturday night and Sunday during the day it was very busy and loud. It didn't bother me though and I knew I was moving in across from a pub when I chose to live there so don't really think it's something you can complain about once moving in. I was younger then, quite often was at the pub on these days/nights anyway so was handy.

It completely depends on the type of person you are and whether the noise will bother you or not. If you have kids you'll need to be putting to bed when the pub starts getting busy fri/sat etc then probably wouldn't recommend it.

The reason we moved from there was because we decided to start trying for a family and so didn't want the noise/drunks hanging about anymore. So really depends on your lifestyle and what your limits are with being disturbed

Lou98 · 28/04/2021 12:45

Also another thing to keep in mind is it may be quite difficult to sell on in the future if you do decide to leave as there's not always loads of people interested in living so close to a pub. The one that we lived in that I mentioned above we rented as I didn't want the hassle of trying to sell

Ariela · 28/04/2021 12:46

Entirely depends. I used to live opposite a pub, a drinkers & darts sort of pub with live music on Friday, bingo on a Thursday etc. However it had a MASSIVE car park out front, garden at back and was quite as anything.

The biggest problem was selling - we had a kitchen at the front so saw all the drive-bys, look at the pub and shake their heads, so I got on to the agent and said look, you need to emphasise the house is double glazed and has a 40ft front garden, the pub has a massive car park out front, (with the entrance opposite 5 doors down) so actually imagine the pub is down the road. Once we got people in the house and they realised you couldn't hear cars and buses on the road it sold.

But that house is right on the street (is it village centre? ) Might not like that, pub's OK as far enough away, and too near a junction to be affected by parking.

Branleuse · 28/04/2021 12:51

It wouldnt bother me. Ive lived next door to pubs twice and I dont mind.
It can be noisy on a weekend evening, but I quite like it when they have a live band and I can enjoy the music without having to be right next to it. The children have always been able to sleep through the noise, and I cant say that either of the pubs have given me any trouble
One was a nice village pub which is quite lively in normal times, and the other was a spit and sawdust biker pub.

Bluntness100 · 28/04/2021 12:57

It would be the road cor me first and foremost, I’d not like being so close to it, and the proximity to thr pub could be problematic with drunks coming home. It would be a no way from me.

Pyewackect · 28/04/2021 12:59

That would be a no from me too.

Sprig1 · 28/04/2021 12:59

I used to live opposite a pub and it was fine until the smoking ban came in to force. After that there were people standing outside smoking and having loud conversations ALL the time.

Sleepingdogs12 · 28/04/2021 12:59

Just looked on right move, it isn't nice enough to outweigh the issues of location for me. I assumed it wS bigger and you'd balance location with space but that's not the case so it is a no from me. The road is more off putting than the pub really for me .

KirstenBlest · 28/04/2021 13:03

I viewed a house very close to a pub about 15 years ago. The pub is now a block of flats.

Chesham is nice.

m00rfarm · 28/04/2021 13:03

I knew the area well a few years ago and it was always a nice pub for locals, There is not much parking around, but everyone seems to manage ok. THe road is quite busy though. The parking would bother me more than the pub (I used to live next to the pub in Germain Street Chesham and never really heard much noise).

YellowMonday · 28/04/2021 13:30

Hmm, the risk of having to clean up vomit all the time would be too high for me!

BestestBrownies · 28/04/2021 13:34

Oh fuck no!!

This would actually be my idea of hell
