Should all foods have christian names?

Mysterian · 27/04/2021 09:07

After Colin the Caterpillar cake should other foods have full names too?

Walter Melon makes sense but might be confusing. Sean Bean is obviously correct.

Alliteration works best. You just couldn't have a Kiwi Fruit called Graham. Mayonnaise always struck me as Mary. And Peter is a nice flat sounding name ideal for Pancakes.

Anybody else or is it just me?

Are all foods Christian ?

Chatanooga1 · 27/04/2021 09:11

Eleanor Quorn.
Jeffrey Pancake.
Anthony Marmite.
Deborah Onion.

Babdoc · 27/04/2021 09:11

Well, Verucca Salt might not sell well...Grin

paralysedbyinertia · 27/04/2021 09:11

In the nicest possible way, OP, I think it's just you. Grin

However, I would propose that you don't limit yourself to "Christian names". Go for greater diversity. How about Ravi the Radish or Ali the Avocado?

Soubriquet · 27/04/2021 09:12

Ah but would it be same through all the supermarkets or would M&S have fancy sounding names like George Grapes whilst Aldi would be a bit more lowscale with Gary Grapes?

ZeroFuchsGiven · 27/04/2021 09:13

Sally Salt
Percy pepper and TommyK.

Cowbells · 27/04/2021 09:14

It should. Barry Bread and Graine Granary. Sheila Ciabatta. Yolanda Yoghurt.

I could waste all day on this. But I'm not going to. Byee. Grin

Different markets, different names.

Barry Bread from Aldi.
Bartholomew Bread-Roll from Waitrose.

I quite like Peppa Bacon myself.

Burn0ut · 27/04/2021 09:21

I only like foods with atheist names, such as Richard the Radish.

DrinkRefilled · 27/04/2021 11:04

I can definitely tell you must be over 60 for using the term ‘Christian names’

These days it’s simply ‘first name’

Really? I'm not even 40, and most people I know still use Christian name. What an odd thing to be ageist about!
paralysedbyinertia · 27/04/2021 11:11

I'm surprised that younger people are still using that term, @MalingeringMary. It's terribly outdated.

BeastOfBODMAS · 27/04/2021 11:22

Augustine Aubergine
Antonio Avocado
Horacio Horseradish
Jimmy Jam
Sam Spam
Jasper Carrot

Thanks OP that’s my productivity gone for the day.

Babdoc · 27/04/2021 11:39

paralysedbyinertia, there are over 31 million Christians in England alone, so I expect more people use the term than you think.

Soubriquet · 27/04/2021 11:41

I’m 32 and it was Christian name when I was growing up

Scautish · 27/04/2021 11:49

Jesus Jelly
Mary marmalade
Joseph Jam
Judas jalapeño

Soubriquet · 27/04/2021 11:51

Ah it should be Judas chocolate jalapeño. So you get betrayed by the chocolate Wink

Ha! Yes! But the branding would need to be appropriate:
Should all foods have christian names?
Soubriquet · 27/04/2021 12:00

Perfect Grin

Though I suppose there has to be a disclaimer on there somewhere. You know so people don’t sue

paralysedbyinertia · 27/04/2021 12:11

Sure, but not all of those 31 million are blind to the fact that we now live in a diverse country where there are plenty of people of other faiths and without faith. A lot of the Christians I know try to be very inclusive in their language.
BeastOfBODMAS · 27/04/2021 12:14

Sharon Sharon fruit

AnnieAnoniMouse · 27/04/2021 12:16

You mean yours don't???

However will I explain that to Andy Avocado & Richard Rye Bread?

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 27/04/2021 12:27

Love the idea, but also agree with PPs - the term 'Christian Name' is outdated and first name or given name is the right term to use.

Unless you're happy for people to ask you what's your Jehovah's Name or Atheist Name, in which case, as you were!

Babdoc · 27/04/2021 13:41

The Church of England is still the established state church, and Christianity therefore the official state religion. So “Christian name” is perfectly appropriate.
Non believers, or those of other faiths, can call it whatever they like instead.
