Colleague's birthday is coming up and I don't know what to buy her.

Budget is about £30.

Any ideas welcome.

Does she drink? Ever mentioned any hobbies? Ever seen her reading? Does she wear jewellery? Has she mentioned a diet (aka don’t get chocolates)?

ElderMillennial · 26/04/2021 19:58

She doesn't drink

She does eat sweets and chocolate

She wears make up but is fussy about skincare

She wears jewellery

Not aware of any hobbies. Don't think she reads or goes to the gym or does any sport. No pets.

I have previously bought her make up, make up brushes, earrings, nail polish.

Ok so you have got her some personal type gifts before. Do feel you want to stick on the beauty line or a different tack?

I often feel I can generally find something in Oliver Bonas.

Makegoodchoices · 26/04/2021 20:14

Something nice from Hotel Chocolat.

ElderMillennial · 26/04/2021 20:16

I feel like a beauty item would be okay but I never really know what to get her. Last time it was Christmas time and I got her a no 7 gift set which I think she liked.

I got her nail polish last year so feel I should steer clear of that.

I had the idea of a manicure set while having a look online just now but that sounds really boring now I'm writing it down!

I've never really shopped at Oliver Bonas. I'll have a lookz

Hotel Chocolat is definitely an idea but I didn't want to get her "just" sweets or chocolate so it would maybe be something from there and something not edible...

You could pair a smaller hotel chocolate with some pamper goodies more like an eye mask and bath salts situation than a face mask etc if she’s specific about skincare.

With the weather warming up and people able to meet maybe a lined picnic blanket like these:

ElderMillennial · 26/04/2021 20:25

I think she has sensitive skin so only uses v specific things. I don't think she'd use a mask.

Not sure if she'd use a picnic blanket. I'll think about that.

It sounds bad but I don't hear her talk of doing anything other than going shopping and a holiday each year. She doesn't seem to meet friends or anything.

But yes some nice chocolates and something else is what I'm thinking.

I think the manicure set sounds nice. At the end of the day, it’s a gift. It’s just lovely to receive something so don’t fret too much. It sounds like you are on the right track.

ElderMillennial · 26/04/2021 20:28

Manicure set and chocolates then Grin

Thank you

Hotel chocolat do the mix and match 3 for £10 on the selectors, 6 of one type in a pack. If you got there of them or one H box you would have enough money left over to get other bits. I would try to pair it with something you may do whilst eating them or that goes with them? That was my thinking with the pamper bits.

If she travels a lot, a jewellery roll is nice but probably would “go” with chocolates.

MiddleClassProblem · 26/04/2021 20:32

Lol x post

fruitpastille · 26/04/2021 20:36

I would get a nice notebook, a paperback bestseller e.g. the midnight library, some bubble bath or hand cream and bar of good chocolate e.g. montezuma. In a pretty gift bag with tissue paper.

Scarf from One hundred stars?

onehundredstars.co.uk/collections/accessories

Or is that a bit old granny? I’m old and I love scarves!

Toilenstripes · 26/04/2021 20:37

A candle?

Redskyyy · 26/04/2021 20:39

I run a giftbox business and would be happy to put something together for you. I have lots of nice sweet treats as well as pamper products, notebooks and more. Please send me a message if I can help and I will give you me website :)

ElderMillennial · 26/04/2021 20:39

She doesn't like candles and I don't think she's interested in stationary or notebooks.

I thought about a scarf but I can't recall if I've ever seen her in one.

Probably doesn't help we've all been working from home for a year so I haven't actually seen her in months.
