If you had to live in another country where would you choose?

Inspired by the other thread discussing Canada....

If you had to live in a different country where would you choose?

We have eyed up Canada, but really I struggle with the grey depressing weather here, so if I was pushed I would probably go for somewhere in Europe like France or Italy.

I would be open to Australia but I know my DH wouldn't be keen, and I would worry about how they will fare in the future with climate change.

Scotland. It's the only place I'd move in a heartbeat.

We have shipped all of our belongings to Portugal and eagerly waiting to get there! Grin

Canoenewbie · 25/04/2021 19:11

Singapore 🇸🇬

m0therofdragons · 25/04/2021 19:12

Austria (if I spoke the language) or Chicago (felt so at home there).

AgentProvocateur · 25/04/2021 19:13

Spain

YesPleaseMary · 25/04/2021 19:15

Canada

I have lived abroad before, in more than one country.

Most places I'd be happy to try for a year.

For the long term, I'd happily consider moving to Denmark, the Netherlands or northern Germany.

Ireland maybe. Finland maybe.
Not sure about Sweden.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 25/04/2021 19:20

Canada, Czech Republic (Prague) Finland, Norway or Scotland (Edinburgh or Shetland)

paralysedbyinertia · 25/04/2021 19:22

Japan

MumofPsuedoAdult · 25/04/2021 19:23

Australia (Sydney specifically) if I was still working age. Greece (Crete specifically) to retire.

Usernameisgone · 25/04/2021 19:27

Already do.... Spain 🇪🇸

@SwimBaby

Cape Town.
Wouldn’t the crime put you off? Some people who’ve recently moved to our village from there said the amount of security required was huge and even then there was a lot of violent robberies and burglaries. I agree it’s a beautiful place.

USA, somewhere like Kentucky or Texas. Only trouble is that I couldn't afford the healthcare I'd need as there would only be a short interval between moving and appearing on "My 600lb life" because I love the food too much
Failing that I'd go to Portugal

bert3400 · 25/04/2021 20:35

@Usernameisgone...me too, absolutely love it

ZoeMaye · 25/04/2021 20:35

Somewhere close, probably Holland, France or Spain

Can I ask what you mean by life in Spain being hard?

groundcontroltomontydon · 25/04/2021 20:42

Spain, France, Italy ... actually absolutely anywhere that would have me. I can be packed in half an hour.

DazedandConcerned · 25/04/2021 20:46

Hydra, Greece

notagainmummy · 25/04/2021 20:47

Italy

OooPourUsACupLove · 25/04/2021 20:47

Canada, specifically Calgary. Glorious summers, skiing in winter.

Tal45 · 25/04/2021 20:48

Spain, Italy, Mexico or Thailand. I don't speak any of the languages though so it might be a struggle to get a job :-D

OooPourUsACupLove · 25/04/2021 20:48

Bastard mozzies though

JingsMahBucket · 25/04/2021 20:49

France for me.

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/04/2021 20:49

Singapore, I'd need to be wealthy too though!

MaudesMum · 25/04/2021 20:52

Italy. Although I'm generally shit with languages, so I'd want to find out if I could learn enough Italian through a combination of classes and actually being there, to fit in properly. So, ideally, a couple of years there to see if it would work before committing 100%. But, post-Brexit its pretty unlikely.
