How often do you deep clean the rooms in your house?

I’ve just done the sitting room as I was so tired of the clutter and layers of dust...😓
I dust and vac quickly every week but the amount of dust and dirt when I pulled everything out and the sofas apart. It must be over a year (or two) since I last did it.
Are we just filthy pigs? 🤣

Not often enough, quite frankly. Hmm

But struggling to give a monkeys about it. Grin

GameofPhones · 24/04/2021 13:15

Not yet.

SpringtimeSummertime · 24/04/2021 13:16

Same here usually. Glad I’ve done it though! Took 2 bloody hours... Not sure how people keep it up.

What is a "deep clean"?
Either you clean or you don't.
Is this some twee expression for a Spring Clean?

Think the clue is in the phrase - a 'deeper clean' than a quick once over Hmm

I probably do each room every 2-3 months maybe... Not together though, that's too much hard work Grin some of my rooms are easier to deep clean than others, so I tend to keep more on top of those on a regular basis.

Well a general clean I guess would be surfaces you see, a deep clean would be pulling out the sofa, behind tv unit etc I guess.

In answer to the OP, not enough so we now have a fortnightly cleaner, she does the deeper cleaning, we keep up to the general cleaning it in between.

SOLINVICTUS · 24/04/2021 13:24

I don't really need to because having hard floors everywhere means each room is minging after a few days.
I should definitely clean my fridge and the inside of the cooker more though.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 24/04/2021 13:24

My house gets cleaned as it needs. I rarely if ever "deep clean" it because I can't be arsed.

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 24/04/2021 13:30

I loosely follow the organised mum method, so have 8 different "focus days" that rotate every week. A "deep clean" to me is basically keeping on top of decluttering, damp dusting the skirting boards and doors, sorting through a kitchen cupboard etc.

99victoria · 24/04/2021 13:30

I only do the sort of clean that involves moving the furniture and cleaning skirting boards and window frames when I decorate or move house :) Just done it for my daughter's house this week as she moved out.

We've been in our house for 27 years although most of it has been redecorated in the last 7/8 years so I probably hoovered under my settee about 5 years ago!

I think I might need that method! Is there a website or something?
Pyewackect · 24/04/2021 13:38

I'll ask my cleaner.

optimistic40 · 24/04/2021 13:40

I don't ever deep clean. Don't have loads of time, don't enjoy it, and my house is old and rented and doesn't end up looking clean anyway!

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 24/04/2021 13:46

@SOLINVICTUS

Yes, it's a lady called Gemma Bray, she started with a blog:

www.theorganisedmum.blog/

www.theorganisedmum.blog/free-printables/

And now has two books called the "organised mum method" and the "organised time method". She's also on Instagram and has a Spotify playlist which she updates everyday. I love her! Love that her approach is little and often and that there's more to life than housework. I don't spend 30 minutes a day cleaning like she suggests though, more like 10/15 Grin. But it keeps the house from getting too bad, so works for me.

PickAChew · 24/04/2021 13:49

I pick a deep, dark, grotty corner to tackle every week or so. Barely done the surface stuff for the past couple of weeks, mind, as my back has been playing up.

Stichintime · 24/04/2021 13:54

I generally pull sofas out, do skirting boards everytime I clean, doesn't seem much point cleaning if you're missing half the dust.

krustykittens · 24/04/2021 13:57

Hard floors so furniture is shifted every week and it is easy to run a duster over skirting boards once a week. Sofas and curtains vacumed once a week as week as well, it takes two minutes to a set of curtains. It really doesn't take that long! The real pain in the bum is steam cleaning our slate kitchen floors, I never seem to keep on top of it, or cleaning the oven.

Purplecatshopaholic · 24/04/2021 13:57

Oooft. What is this deep clean of which you speak...? CBA - a quick once over every week or so is fine, not died yet...

ExitChasedByABee · 24/04/2021 13:57

Deep clean once every two weeks. If not then definitely once a month. Surface level clean daily. It makes it easier when things don’t pile up. I have a junk room that I do need to tackle though.

ShutUpAlex · 24/04/2021 13:58

I don’t think we’ve ever moved our sofa, it’s too heavy!

ColinSupporter · 24/04/2021 13:59

Under sofas every couple of weeks, but we have a robo vac I send under there, I don’t have to move the sofas. Same with beds. House wide skirting boards every month or two, ditto living room where I would dust the curtain rails, clean under the sofa cushions etc.

Inside kitchen cupboards for example, maybe once a decade unless there’s a spillage.

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/04/2021 14:02

I can't move our beds (2 doubles and a king-size), wardrobes or sofa by myself. So its a case of waiting until DH or teenage DS is home to help.

Gwenhwyfar · 24/04/2021 14:02

Moving the sofa is just for ones that go right to the floor, yes? Mine has legs so I just hoover underneath it each time. Do I need to move it?
Can't move the fridge or kitchen stuff anyway.

mummyof4kids · 24/04/2021 14:05

I've literally just finished deep cleaning my living room....all sofas pulled out and cleaned behind and under them.
OH can do the kitchen

Ironytheoppositeofwrinkly · 24/04/2021 14:08

Threads like this annoy me no end. Stop holding yourself to other people's standards of clean. If you are happy and comfortable in your house, then clean as and when you already do. If you think you spend too much time cleaning, then clean less/get a cleaner. If you feel your house is dirty, clean more/get a cleaner.
I personally hoover, mop and polish every day and clean other things as and when they look grubby. Everyone has different standards though and nobody should be judged for how they clean their house, life is too short.
