How often do you deep clean the rooms in your house?

SpringtimeSummertime · 24/04/2021 13:10

I’ve just done the sitting room as I was so tired of the clutter and layers of dust...😓
I dust and vac quickly every week but the amount of dust and dirt when I pulled everything out and the sofas apart. It must be over a year (or two) since I last did it.
Are we just filthy pigs? 🤣

Well Im doing that today, so moving beds, sofa, tables to dust/hoover etc and skirting boards etc. Last done, oh gosh deffo some time in 2020 Confused

Oblomov21 · 24/04/2021 14:17

Move sofas and clean under them once a year.

DIshedUp · 24/04/2021 14:25

We moved our bed for the first time in 2 years today so that gives you an idea Grin

DIshedUp · 24/04/2021 14:27

@VictoriaLudorum not sure how deep clean is more twee than spring clean?

Its just a more involved clean. Deep clean is a normal term used in almost all forms of cleaning. You deep clean the car, deep clean at the dentist etc.

Milkywaystars · 24/04/2021 14:28

A house full of asthmatics here apart from me so we have hard floors in the whole house. This forces me to vacuum regularly and move furniture so it doesn't get too dusty. I have a extension bit to my shark which let's me do fine dusting & then I damp wipe afterwards. Much easier than damp dusting straight with clouds of dust billowing everywhere.

Milkywaystars · 24/04/2021 14:30

I also deep clean thoroughly before my mum comes to stay! Grin she hasn't come in well over a year because of covid so it's getting a bit manky! Grin

LolaSmiles · 24/04/2021 14:31

It depends on the room. I deep clean the bathrooms and kitchens more than the living room or playroom.

RRoonilWazlib · 24/04/2021 14:33

I've always been rubbish at keeping on top of cleaning! I looked at the organised mum method online and followed that for a little bit which helped. I find it easier to keep on top of if I know what jobs I'm going to do and when!

HectorHalloumi · 24/04/2021 14:41

Once a year when when I rearrange the furniture to fit the Christmas tree in.
Life's too short to be doing it more than that Grin

Cowbells · 24/04/2021 14:46

Twice a year - spring clean and advent. Sometimes in September too as having DC around all summer left the house in a terrible state. But this year... I dunno. I just stare at the dust and haven't yet found my motivation. Can't even pay someone to do it as there is so much decluttering to do first.

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 24/04/2021 14:52

I do a good clean when I have an inspection but I don't pull the sofa or bed out. Can't pull the bed anyway. 1 it won't move and 2 it's not fastened together and is a pain to level it back up again. Honestly if I could afford a cleaner I'd get one like a shot. I bloody hate cleaning

Bagelsandbrie · 24/04/2021 15:10

There is no way I could pull the sofas etc out on my own and dh wouldn’t fancy doing that on a weekend so they just get left until we redecorate or replace a carpet!! I do clean everywhere we can see almost every day though.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 24/04/2021 15:13

I did the whole lot when first lockdown happened.

CBA now.

ragged · 24/04/2021 15:17

Never

I do things like pull out the fridge & clean floor underneath about once every 5 years. But I don't do the whole room in one go unless... carpet was being relaid, maybe? Not even then, really.

Chunkymenrock · 24/04/2021 15:21

Regularly cleaned normally. A spring clean every 2-3 years.

Nocaloriesinchocolate · 24/04/2021 15:25

What I haven’t done literally in years is the tops of all the kitchen wall cupboards, which I can’t reach without steps.

badlydrawnbear · 24/04/2021 16:24

Literally never.

Meruem · 24/04/2021 16:36

Twice a year. A spring clean and a “pre Christmas” one which is usually October time. I find that’s enough to keep it looking pretty ok with a going over the rest of the time. I’m about half way through my current spring clean.

SpringtimeSummertime · 24/04/2021 16:43

Is this some twee expression for a Spring Clean?

It’s what professional cleaners call doing more than just wiping over or vacuuming the surfaces they can see. HTH.

Looked under the bed earlier... It’s a divan so close to the floor and the carpet underneath is lined with a thick layer of dust. Given up now. As others have said, CBA!

I have never spring cleaned in my life (married 43 years)
I do dust and vacuum several times a week but as for washing the skirting boards...only when I decorate. A quick dust ever now and then suffices.
The vacuum can get under the sofa (DH’s job). I don’t think my house is grubby, it looks absolutely fine to me and that’s what matters!
I vacuum under the beds when I clear out the storage boxes kept there, bathroom and loo get properly cleaned 1-2 times a week (2 adults in the house), as does the kitchen.
Seem to have survived so far without problems!

BreakfastOfWaffles · 24/04/2021 17:12

I do a deep clean once a quarter - dust the lampshades, high cupboard tops, vacuum behind the beds, clean windows, descale shower head etc. One thing I can't face, though, is dusting the high bookshelves, which probably gets done about once every two years!

MintyMabel · 24/04/2021 17:13

Once a year.

Reinventinganna · 24/04/2021 17:26

@Hobnobsandbroomstick

I loosely follow the organised mum method, so have 8 different "focus days" that rotate every week. A "deep clean" to me is basically keeping on top of decluttering, damp dusting the skirting boards and doors, sorting through a kitchen cupboard etc.
This is what I do. It means that a deep clean is never really too much work.

Yes, it's a lady called Gemma Bray, she started with a blog:

www.theorganisedmum.blog/

www.theorganisedmum.blog/free-printables/

And now has two books called the "organised mum method" and the "organised time method". She's also on Instagram and has a Spotify playlist which she updates everyday. I love her! Love that her approach is little and often and that there's more to life than housework. I don't spend 30 minutes a day cleaning like she suggests though, more like 10/15 Grin. But it keeps the house from getting too bad, so works for me.[/quote]
Thank you!
