How many nights a year can you sit out in your garden without freezing to death?

Last year we sat out once. It had been a boiling hot day and it was still warm into the evening. That is very rare though. It’s been a lovely day here today but it would be freezing to sit out as it’s too windy now.

I’m thinking of all those outdoor get togethers that are allowed. I couldn’t have one in my garden as it would be too cold. Maybe if you get the evening sun it would be better but the sun moves from my garden by 4pm.

We were out last night til 8pm, you just need to keep adding layers

We decided to build a small summer house for the top of the garden which gets late sun but is quite windy most of the time. It's fantastic for this time of year. Double doors at the front so you can keep them open, but still be much warmer than just sitting in the open air.

I also have a footstool and a cosy blanket Grin

We've sat out almost every weekend evening since 12th April. We have camping blankets and sometimes a fire pit- were lucky that our garden is very private and not near other houses so we don't bother anyone with it.

I would say though that we're hardened campers so used to sitting out of an evening.

The key is not to get cold. Once you are cold it's hard to warm up. Much easier to keep warm.

We’ve done it around 10 times so far this year. We’ve got a fire pit and we use blankets if it’s chilly.

We’re in SE England and currently have a shared garden.
Because we’re in the upstairs flat we only sat outside after 6.30pm a few times in the last year, despite the hot evenings; I couldn’t leave the children asleep upstairs while we’re in the garden, and due to the pandemic, downstairs were obviously around 24/7 so after long days trying to entertain the kids we didn’t try to keep them up and outside past their bedtime bouncing on the trampoline and talking 100 miles a hour

There’s a chance we might move to another rental before the end of summer which would be ground floor with French doors straight into the garden. It would be amazing and we’d try our best to be outside after 7pm from April-Nov!
