What is the most moisturising moisturiser?

My whole body is scaly. I have chronic dry skin (have seen drs over the years - not interested)

I’ve decided to make a serious attempt to tackle it once and for all. I’m going to religiously exfoliate and moisturise regularly

It’s going to take quite a quantity of moisturiser. Any suggestions for the very best one? Also how does one exfoliate?

I highly recommend Cerave.

IggyAce · 22/04/2021 13:59

Aveeno or cerave is what my dd uses and she suffers with eczema.

Weleda skin food and skin food body butter. Incredibly moisturising. Reasonable priced. Available from Holland & Barret (and other stores)

I like nivea, one of the massive bottles with a pump!

First though, whip up some solid coconut oil with an electric whisk and add either coffee grounds or sugar to it (I use soft brown). Give yourself a good rub down with that all over and then moisturise, I promise it’s worth it.

Use a loofah every day followed by body cream. Australian Superberry is amazing.

That sounds like a perfect recipe for a blocked drain!

Aveeno here. But the super duper thick Nivea is amazing (blue round pot), albeit very difficult to rub in.

fantasmasgoria1 · 22/04/2021 14:18

Diprobase cream is better than anything I ever used before.

Gettingthereslowly2020 · 22/04/2021 14:20

Vaseline cocoa body oil gel - it's a thick gel and nothing I've tried is better than that. You can put it on wet skin straight out of the shower

MrsPnut · 22/04/2021 14:23

I use Mixa that I bought in France last year. It is so good that I have repurchased it since.

I used it when I was having 5 weeks of radiotherapy and my oncologist was amazed that my skin hadn't broken down.
You can buy it from Amazon www.amazon.co.uk/Mixa-Panthenol-Comfort-Body-Balm/dp/B08DB4QYPW/ref=sr_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=MIXA&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1619097638&sr=8-12

Cetraben! I've never been a fan of GP prescribed creams because they just make me feel all greasy but this one has been my saving grace - I've had horrible flaky patches on my face for the past year and wasted so much money in various creams before a different GP prescribed me this one. You can also get it from Superdrug, Boots etc.

HavelockVetinari · 22/04/2021 14:25

Udderly smooth is brilliant, it really sinks in and is super moisturising due to its high urea content

idontlikealdi · 22/04/2021 14:26

Nivea blue original. Slap it all over before you go to bed.

HavelockVetinari · 22/04/2021 14:26

Diprobase is also fantastic, better than cetraben

First thing I thought was it’s going to cause fucking havoc for the sewer system.
Also coconut oil is HIGHLY comedogenic so never put it on your face!

My daughter has super dry skin from birth. We just seen a dermatologist as she has developed allergies too. He advised cool showers that are no longer than three minutes and don't use shower gel or moisturiser that is perfumed. Aveeno seems to be a go to for dry skin but if your coeliac your not advised to use it. My DD now uses Elave baby shampoo and shower gel followed by derma blend as a moisturiser. Dermatologist also said to make sure you apply moisturiser in a downward action and not upwards or circular.

GrimDamnFanjo · 22/04/2021 14:46

Husband starts with a bath treatment on prescription which helps followed by his usual creams. It's hard but once you start reducing the dryness it starts to improve

Chunkymenrock · 22/04/2021 14:49

Vaseline intensive care in the white bottle is absolutely brilliant.

kindlekeeper · 22/04/2021 14:50

Cetraben. Prescribed by GP for dry skin and is great.

Lydia777 · 22/04/2021 14:57

I use coconut oil sometimes (buy in food section as cheaper) - its so great.

The majority of the time, I exfoliate and then use aqueous cream after. I also use it to shave and sometimes as a cleanser and shower gel - it is so versatile and great for dry and sensitive skin - plus only £3 or £4 for a huge tub so lasts ages.

ChristmasFluff · 22/04/2021 15:01

Aveeno powder in the bath, but I second diprobase as a moisturiser.

It didn't suit me as a moisturiser (I used to have eczema), but I passed it on to a friend and it cleared up her cracked and dry hands completely, and it has done the same for several other friends over covid times.

The Aveeno powderin the bath really soothed my skin when I had eczema.

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 22/04/2021 15:05

Zerobase

PleaseValentina · 22/04/2021 15:10

Dermol, from the pharmacy.

BigPyjamas · 22/04/2021 15:46

I would:

  1. Exfoliate properly. Check out Korean Italy Towels on Amazon. Incredible amounts of skin come off, rolls of the stuff first time. It's addictive. Skin is left silky smooth
  1. I like L'Occitane Shea Butter moisturiser. It's certainly the best I've ever used, you can feel it even after 24hrs but is absorbed in quickly and non greasy.

I'd imagine lots of moisturisers do a similar job if you apply regularly on exfoliated skin

lonel · 22/04/2021 15:51
  1. exfoliate
  2. put baby oil onto damp skin
  3. wait and then put on moisturiser
