Will DH need a phone for track and trace (pubs/bars)?

Not sure whether to post in here or Coronavirus so opted for here for traffic.

Last summer when we went to pubs we were able to check in using my phone, but I keep hearing that this time around everyone in a group needs their own phone/app to check in, even if they live together. If you've been out this week, have you found this to be the case? There have been stories in my local paper about older people without smartphones being turned away from their local - not sure if this is government guidelines or just down to the individual business.

DH doesn't have a phone and doesn't want one - will be still be able to go to the pub (or anywhere where you have to check in)?

There are different ways of tracking, the NHS app or the venue's own method. We went to a Greene king pub, you could scan their QR code to fill in your details but it didn't work for me so I signed a piece.of paper. Other places you can just do the NHS app or a sheet of paper

Sparklingbrook · 16/04/2021 19:01

@BackforGood, I wonder if any places actually do? And if someone got a phone call off the local Wetherspoons say, would they follow the rules?
I wonder if it's just a box ticking exercise that wouldn't really work in practice depending on the establishment.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 16/04/2021 19:03

You have absolutely no friends or family 😱😱 is your phone contacts list literally just your dd?? What if god forbid you were out somewhere all day and you had no signal and dd was trying to get in touch ??

shinynewapple21 · 16/04/2021 19:05

I thought that they were now supposed to take everyone's details individually but DS went out on Monday and said that only one of their party scanned themselves in. I don't know if the pub was operating incorrectly or if DS had misunderstood.

GreenClock · 16/04/2021 19:11

I have a “vintage” iPhone that doesn’t support the app in many cases. Hopefully the places I want to visit will have manual check-ins too.

Apart from stuff like doctor and dentist, yes.

I'm never usually anywhere with no signal - if I am I just call her back when I see she's tried to get in touch.

There's no phone signal at my local so I expect it will be manual or nothing.

@Fuckinellitsme

This is all very good news as I am desperate for a pint but didn't fancy drinking it alone Grin

Absolutely fine with him giving his details on paper, but if they want a phone number for him I'm not sure what he'll do (we don't have a landline). He'll just have to give mine and hope they don't notice it's the same!

That should be fine, people are allowed to share a phone!
sunflowersandbuttercups · 16/04/2021 19:25

I have no intention of downloading the app.

I'm happy to give my details but so far, nowhere we've been has asked.

Chunkymenrock · 16/04/2021 19:25

Please know its TEST and Trace. Track and Trace is a post office delivery service. It's important to get it right. I hear so many people get this wrong.

Depending on the exact circumstances the venue would hand the records over to track and trace.

I would hope so, yes.

MeanderingGently · 16/04/2021 19:31

I don't have any app, my phone is old fashioned and not even connected to the internet....
I had a load of little cards printed which have my details on and if asked, I just hand a card over and leave them to complete all their details/paperwork/whatever. Never have a problem with it thus far, and I aim to continue this way.....

It's track and trace (although RM is also track and trace!)

How have you got no friends?

LudoBear · 16/04/2021 21:18

People commenting on how does he manage without a phone must be in their 20s. I'm only 33 but remember a time without mobile phones.

And the person who is shocked about someone not having any friends.. not everyone does. I don't. I have 12 numbers in my phone including doctors, dentist & my housing association.

I'm not the OP but I have no friends. None. Zero. Nada.
Chunkymenrock · 16/04/2021 21:24

@fuckinellitsme It is definitely Test and Trace. What you have sent must have been entered incorrectly. That's appalling on an NHS website. I can assure you it is definitely Test and Trace.

You might want to tell the government.

Oops, sorry PP, I didn't mean to quote you Grin

Track / test and trace
Who cares? it IS'NT important!
Everyone knows what you are talking about in context
No one is queuing up at the post office for a corona test

Well said. Everyone knows what is meant.

I pre-date mobile phones, but back then we all had landlines.

On a side note how do you cope with your dh having no phone?! How do you ring him to tell him to bring you things when he is out? Grab a pint of milk? Pick the kids up whilst he is passing?! I cannot imagine

I am in same position as OP and it's a complete pain. He gives my number out to people as a contact & I end up being like a PA. I think to some extent it's so he can't be contacted. Says to email & thinks other people who won't email as they prefer WhatsApp are being awkward 🤷🏻‍♀️ It's really frustrating!

MrsJBaptiste · 16/04/2021 23:28

Why do some people have no intention of ever getting or using the app? Did you never go out last summer? To a pub/restaurant/gym?

I haven't used it recently but surely if a pub asked you to sign in via the app, why not just do it?
