What garden toys do you have for primary age DC?

Other than big-ticket items like trampolines and climbing frames, what do your primary aged DC play with in the garden?

I have DC 5 and 7 and have a new garden, and I’m not sure what to buy that will entertain them!

I’ve just bought a basketball hoop for my daughters 10th birthday .

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 16/04/2021 11:46

Swingball
Rope ladder to enable tree climbing

fuckyouRW · 16/04/2021 11:47

Sand pit. Paddling pool. Morrisons sell outdoor board games like Snakes and Ladders, Twister etc. A good supply of bubble mixture and different wands. Giant beachball, loads of fun!

None. They have bikes and scooters. That's it.

CandyCaneLane0 · 16/04/2021 12:09

Different size slides, bike, go kart, loads of footballs & a goal, water/sand table

VenusClapTrap · 16/04/2021 12:25

Favourites are a swing hanging from a tree and a little wildlife pond. The pond isn’t really a toy, granted, but dd spends hours watching the creatures in it.

They also have a pair of football goals which get turned upside down and used to make dens and all sorts of role play games - never for football!

We have a badminton net and table tennis table used in the summer months, which haven’t come out of the garage yet this year.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 16/04/2021 12:25

When that age we had slide and swings, swing ball, box of toys like bats, balls, bowling, bubbles etc.
They had bikes but didn’t use them in the garden just for rides out.

ineedaholidayandwine · 16/04/2021 12:28

Daughter aged 4 has a swing, slide, mini seesaw and a wooden playhouse.
Other than that it's a picnic set for her house and a football

ineedaholidayandwine · 16/04/2021 12:29

Paddling pool for hot days, a scooter and her bike, though that's mainly for going on bike rides

Clutterbugsmum · 16/04/2021 12:32

We have wooden Domino's, quiots and jenga from Jaques of London we like their toys as they are very good quality and all have good quality storage bags to make sure nothing is lost.

Clutterbugsmum · 16/04/2021 12:35

We also had a coupleof these construction kits for fort building.

Lolly86 · 16/04/2021 12:36

Swinball and a trampoline

gerbo · 16/04/2021 12:37

Without doubt the best £99 we ever spent was on our Plum swing. Ossicles single seat swing, wooden frame. We've had it for donkeys years, it's concreted in so safe.

My dd is 14 and still enjoys half an hour quiet swinging on a sunny day!

(Had to invest in a new 'extra wide' seat from Plum tho as she's grown up now really!)

gerbo · 16/04/2021 12:38

Ossicles?! Classic!

sorryiasked · 16/04/2021 12:38

Swing ball
Patch of "digging dirt" - ds used to spend hours digging holes! Sometimes I'd hide some coins (loose change 10p/5p etc) but to be honest he was just as happy digging up a bit of old flower pot!
Aquaplay is great - like a canal system.

Sandpit with a lid that had a road layout on it.

OneTimeAdvocate · 16/04/2021 12:40

Grass. Kids love it and enjoy rolling around and being imaginative.

Far too much tat these days which we feel compelled to buy

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/04/2021 12:43

House we just moved into has a basket swing in the garden which is proving popular, esp with elder DD who spends ages reading on it.
We also have a trampoline, steel framed pool, netball net, garden games and cricket for back garden. Scoots and Y scooters, plus roller blades, for road in front (no traffic). Bikes for cycle lane network we connect onto.

Woeismethischristmas · 16/04/2021 12:54

A little wigwam, my six yo set it up by themselves. Then add a kids garden table and chairs and line up flower pots next to it.keeps them entertained for ages. I make a little picnic for them.

Hammock is also popular. Cheap too if you have a convenient tree.

adawong · 16/04/2021 12:58

A Fork , a spade and some trowels.

WellTidy · 16/04/2021 12:58

Two football goals (so a mock pitch)

Cricket set

Badminton set

Giant jenga

Aquaplay (not out all the time as it is massive and means that we wouldnt be able to eat on the outdoor table)

I’d like to get a basketball hoop but DS isn’t keen

WellTidy · 16/04/2021 12:59

Ds lays in his hammock swing a lit

Howsonetoknow · 16/04/2021 12:59

DS who will be 7 in the summer.
Bike and scooter (although he's not confident on the bike so doesn't use it much)
Basketball hoop
Couple of cheap bouncy footballs (the kind you get at beach side shops)
Always have a good stash of the big chunky chalks, bubbles, water balloons for the water months
I tend to end up buying cheap water guns most summers as they get lost or broken easily
One thing he, and cousins/friends of various ages have all really loved is a rocker stomper. I found one for £5 in Iceland last summer that also had a bubble blower on the bottom so it launched bubbles up as well as the rocket. We had endless fun with that in the first lockdown when the weather was amazing for weeks on end!

Howsonetoknow · 16/04/2021 13:00

Hotter months not water months! Confused

Woodlandbelle · 16/04/2021 13:02

Great thread.
Mine still love their little tykes sandpit so much.

Also trampoline and swing.

Mostly they love playing 'kitchen' with old judges and rocks and old garden gnomes.

InDubiousBattle · 16/04/2021 13:04

My dc are 5&7 too and they have a cricket set, golf set, bats&balls, sand pit(with sand toys), footballs, water pistols, chunky chalks, big paddling pool, gardening stuff (lovely little sets from Aldi). They love playing in the garden!
