What has your toddler/preschooler honestly eaten today?

Toddler eating habits are such a mix of fascinating and infuriating. DD is constantly declaring she doesn’t like something which was previously her favourite food but she also seems really good at naturally balancing her food- yes she’ll have a day where she eats basically nothing but cheese, but then she’ll have a day when she eats nothing but fruit, and it seems to balance out quite well over the course of a week/month. I wish I could say the same for me! Anyway thought honest accounts of a toddlers day of eating would be interesting

Breakfast- 4 slices of toast, sans crusts. I made the mistake of buttering it while it was still hot so the butter melted in and was no longer visible. The toast was therefore sent back for additional buttering.

Snack- Smoothie made from a banana and frozen raspberries. Apparently smoothies are a “Bing thing”.

Lunch- 1.5 green peppers eaten chopped up with a spoon. Several licks of a sausage roll before deciding she “doesn’t like it”

Afternoon snack- 1/4 chocolate muffin and some milk

Dinner- Toddler bowl of chilli, no rice, followed by 3(!) apples. I may owe an apology to the nursery worker who has to change her nappy tomorrow.

Please don’t have a go if you are one of those people who think fruit is the devil. I promise to feed her nothing but boiled chicken and broccoli tomorrow.

2.5 year old has had:
Breakfast - 1 wheatabix, small banana, half a bagel with peanut butter
Snack - home made mini spinach & cheese muffin, small slice melon
Lunch - cheese sandwich (2.5 inch worth of baguette), 1/2 slice of ham, 1 small beetroot, cucumber slices, couple of slices of avocado, handful of blueberries, palm size bit of Easter egg
Dinner - home made chilli served with macaronis (I thought I defrosted some pasta sauce!), couple tablespoons plain Greek yogurt, fruit salad (about 1/2 a Gu ramekin)

16 month old DD has eaten:

Breakfast - half a bowl of porridge with pear purée, half a cinnamon & raisin bagel with butter a handful of raspberries and half a banana

Lunch - a toastie made from 1 sandwich thin with tomato purée & grated cheese, a handful of rice cakes, half a bag of bear paws

Dinner/tea - a small tin of ravioli in tomato sauce with a toasted pitta bread to mop up the sauce and rice pudding for dessert

We are going through a great stage where all she'll eat is cheese and tomato in various forms! Grin

I'm having such a hard time with my 3 year old which I'm gutted about because he ate everything I offered during the weaning stage. I realised just recently that over the last few months hes managed to somehow get me into a really bad habit of giving in to what he wants to eat, ie anything with sugar, and quick fixes becuase I was too focused on just getting him to eat! Well though luck toddler because mummy will win this war eventually. Anyway, today he's had

Breakfast: rice crispies with whole milk for extra calories

Snack: not hungry
Lunch- picnic at the park so a ham and cheese lunchable, dairy lea, some of the babies carrot puff crisps. He claimed to be full after that
Pm snack- not interested
Tea- peppa pig pasta on toast, yoghurt, grapes and a banana

Not our best day but we've had worse

19 months old

Breakfast - a couple of strawberries, half a Greek yogurt, a couple of cherry tomatoes, a few bites of marmite on toast.

Snack - more cherry tomatoes , some cucumber and cheese, a few veggie stick crisps and a gherkin.

Lunch - veggie spag bol, DD ate about a spoonful then ate a couple of bits of apple and another gherkin - she opened the fridge and pointed at the jar till I gave in and got her one!

Snack - a few pieces of satsuma, more cherry tomatoes!

Tea - peas and sweetcorn, nearly a full quorn sausage, abit of brocolli and a few of bites of mashed sweet potato with cheese.

It sounds like a lot but she tends to just take a few bites of different things , she eats the most at tea time. Breakfast is hit & miss! She's a grazer for most of the day.

DD 2
Piece of toast
Smoothie
Brownie bar
Chippy chips and fish cake
Pringles
Facon sandwich

Not great today but we’ve been out most of the day. He’ll eat better tomorrow.. maybe 🤷🏻‍♀️

They were in nursery today but both apparently ate all their food (nursery always says this and I'm pretty sure they're lying 😂)

  • toast (at home before nursery)
Breakfast - cereal in nursery snack - cucumber with hummus Lunch- roast dinner Afternoon snack - spaghetti hoops on toast with fruit

Dinner at home - curry and rice

  • apple

Most the time they pick at bits and a lot of time time my 3 year old will completely refuse her meal. I just offer the food and let them eat what they want (while gently encouraging them to try different bits)

Mine are 1.5 and 3
