What has your toddler/preschooler honestly eaten today?

riotlady · 15/04/2021 18:54

Toddler eating habits are such a mix of fascinating and infuriating. DD is constantly declaring she doesn’t like something which was previously her favourite food but she also seems really good at naturally balancing her food- yes she’ll have a day where she eats basically nothing but cheese, but then she’ll have a day when she eats nothing but fruit, and it seems to balance out quite well over the course of a week/month. I wish I could say the same for me! Anyway thought honest accounts of a toddlers day of eating would be interesting

Breakfast- 4 slices of toast, sans crusts. I made the mistake of buttering it while it was still hot so the butter melted in and was no longer visible. The toast was therefore sent back for additional buttering.

Snack- Smoothie made from a banana and frozen raspberries. Apparently smoothies are a “Bing thing”.

Lunch- 1.5 green peppers eaten chopped up with a spoon. Several licks of a sausage roll before deciding she “doesn’t like it”

Afternoon snack- 1/4 chocolate muffin and some milk

Dinner- Toddler bowl of chilli, no rice, followed by 3(!) apples. I may owe an apology to the nursery worker who has to change her nappy tomorrow.

Please don’t have a go if you are one of those people who think fruit is the devil. I promise to feed her nothing but boiled chicken and broccoli tomorrow.

Vooga · 15/04/2021 19:51

I'm very impressed at that green pepper eating OP. DD is good with fruit but I always worry about veg.

Today DD had porridge with banana, a plum and an oat cake, a bite of my sandwich and then a freddo that someone else have her 😕 some peanut butter sandwiches, raspberries, a tub of vanilla ice cream, veggie sausage with mash, peas and broccoli for dinner.

She's goes to nursery 2 1/2 days a week and she eats well there. She eats plenty, doesn't really have any days where she won't eat anything but she definitely has too many treats imo.

Vooga · 15/04/2021 19:52

She also has milk on waking, milk at bedtime and sometimes milk in the afternoon too

My DD’s favourite phrase at that age was
“Today I no likey ...(insert food that has been perfectly acceptable previously, but also changes in a daily basis)!
She’s generally fine now. DS1 will eat anything vaguely edible in vast quantities and DS2 any ‘proper’ food ie food made by me, that isn’t greasy.

underneaththeash · 15/04/2021 20:06

Oh my kids now are 14.12 and 9.

brokengate · 15/04/2021 20:14

@riotlady how did you get her to eat four slices of toast??

Mine is exactly the same at moment. Every day different.

2.5
Breakfast one slice of toast with banana
Snack chocolate lolly on walk with granny
Lunch half roll, puffs, cucumber and carrot sticks, pear, grapes, yogurt
Snack blueberry muffin
Tea lentil soup, chicken strips, sausage strips, broccoli, melon (dunked in the soup) blueberries

Yesterday not a great deal.

Almost 4yr old has today eaten:

Breakfast Jordan country crisp cereal and weetabix minis (not at the same time) with whole milk. She left some of the weetabix.

Lunch: 2 slices of cold meat, salad, prawn pasta, houmous and half a pitta bread. She left a little pasta and some salad.

Snack: half packet of wotsits, grapes, blueberries and melon. Half a chocolate chip cookie. Ate them all asked for extra fruit.

Dinner: chicken nuggets, chips, peas, sweetcorn and carrots. Ate everything so was allowed a lollipop.

Reg15 · 15/04/2021 20:23

3yo

B: bowl of rice crispies
S: banana
L: ham sandwich, babybel, cherry toms
S: bowl plain popcorn
D: salmon, mash, broccoli. Apple crumble and cream (x2 as his brother wouldn’t touch it so he hoovered it up)

PointeShoesandTutus · 15/04/2021 20:33

Almost 3 year old here.

Breakfast - Watermelon wedge, grapes, one lick of a spoon of porridge with milk.

Snack - rabbit shortbread biscuit from the bakery

Lunch - homemade tomato soup (one spoonful at most), 50:50 bread and philadelphia, cucumber, strawberries.

Snack - babybel

Dinner - half a fish finger, 1 potato wedge, 2 sticks of baby corn, large spoonful of mayonnaise (eaten using a spoon), half a tonne of peas

It’s funny because today I told DH that she’d had a ‘good eating day’ but looking at it written down, it’s crap!

2yo - scrambled egg (Ignored toast), peeled apple (otherwise will spit out peel). Yogurt pouch for snack. Smoked salmon (ignored the bread it was in despite asking for a sandwich) cherry tomatoes, whole carrot, ignored red pepper despite asking for it. Strawberries. Big portion of lamb ragu pasta with loads of cheese, baby sweetcorn, two pieces of garlic bread, shortbread biscuit. Big cup of milk.

Growth spurts going on at the moment I think!

Absolutely no idea, she’s not normally a big breakfast eater but she’s eaten a lot the past couple of days so she might be growing again.

I am very appreciative of this thread.

Often I think my toddler isn't getting enough or is too fussy etc.

It seems like my other mum friends are like

So and so eats breakfast lunch and a three course meal in the evening plus snacks and it's all organic and free range etc etc

You have made me a happy mum

AWryGiraffe · 15/04/2021 21:49

About 180ml whole milk first thing and some blueberries
Nursery day today so breakfast could've been anything.
Lunch - baked potato and beans (not really eaten as she doesn't like potato)
Dinner - macaroni cheese x 2 portions

After pickup, she had a Heck sausage, some pasta with cheese, some roast peppers,

She's actually really good with veg and would eat fruit constantly. It's carbs I worry about - she has a very limited range of what carbs she will eat. Little weirdo.

CruellaDaVille · 15/04/2021 21:50
