My nan is shortly turning 80 and I wanted to try and come up with 80 presents for her Confused
Is it possible?!
Presents can be small and cheap to some which can be more expensive...
Can anyone please help with ideas?

Honestly? One nice thing would be so much better. Or one nice thing and some flowers/chocs.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/04/2021 20:14

Or one nice thing and 80 balloons.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 14/04/2021 20:14

She won't want 80 presents, don't do it.

Shouldbedoing · 14/04/2021 20:14

Please don't overload the poor woman with 80 bits of tat.
Terrible idea IMO

Chicchicchicchiclana · 14/04/2021 20:15

Don't do 80 balloons either please! All the waste!

LoosingTheChristmasBattle · 14/04/2021 20:15

I did something similar for my mum but rather than 70 presents, I did 70 memories. I asked her friends and family to write down their favourite memories and put them all in envelopes, she had such a lovely time opening them all and re-living the memories, she still goes through the bundle now.

By far the better option!

80 photos in a photo book, 80 songs, etc. You don't have to do 80 presents. That would depress me if it was my birthday.

I have to agree with this, I know it sounds like a good idea but does an 80 year old really want all that stuff? All that buying, wrapping, unwrapping, having to find 80 different ways to say thank you or ooh how nice.

It makes me stressed just thinking about it Grin

Bellabelloo · 14/04/2021 20:17

I totally agree. I would rather have 1 nice gift than 80 cheap things to open. I'm sure there are better ways to incorporate the landmark 8-0.

Redshoeblueshoe · 14/04/2021 20:19

Loosingthechristmasbattle that's a good idea.

80 flowers in a bunch then! Or 80 chocolates in a box. I was trying to enter into the spirit of the request, without some poor old woman getting 80 bits of tat.

I personally would look at items that were on trend for each year of her life, starting with present one being a newspaper printed on the day she was born.
bonbonours · 14/04/2021 20:20

80 memories, songs, photos etc all much better ideas than 80 presents just for the sake of it. Most elderly people have little they need or want in terms of material things.

Howsonetoknow · 14/04/2021 20:20

I did this (with my sister and SIL so we all chose 10 things each) for my other sisters 30th, it was just about doable to think of 30 things she'd actually use/like without it being padded out with crap!

80 would be a massive stretch I think!
80 things is a lot of stuff, especially for someone of that age who probably has little wants/needs!

Love the 80 handwritten notes from people in her life, that sounds lovely and would surely be more treasured.

HectorHalloumi · 14/04/2021 20:20

An 80 year old doesn't want to be unwrapping 80 presents, sorry.

HelpMeh · 14/04/2021 20:20

Sorry, another one agreeing with the rest. 80 presents Shock. I don't think anyone would appreciate that would they?

80 memories or 80 photos is a nice idea. Or a book of some kind with something from each year of her life.

Scarby9 · 14/04/2021 20:20

I did 50 for a friend's 50th, but it was one a week for the whole year (all dated) and included 'vouchers' for experiences and little challenges as well as small gifts.
The physical gifts included:
A mug
Nail transfers
A cross stitch kit
Hand cream
A tin of asparagus (in joke)
A tin of heinz tomato soup (another in joke)
A soap egg
A little picture frame
Highlighter pens
Fine nib pens
Socks
So basically useful stuff.

Scarby9 · 14/04/2021 20:21

Or a little amusing treat.

EcoCustard · 14/04/2021 20:23

Agree with others, 1 nice gift would be better than 80. And please don’t do 80 balloons the environmental waste Shock. 80 photos or memories sounds lovely suggested up thread.
