I'm interested in what has worked for people and what one thing might be the most important.

OP posts:
BagLadyy · 12/04/2021 14:32

2 meals a day only. (Fast 18 hours) no snacks outside those two meals. (Even milk in drinks etc)

Annebronte · 12/04/2021 14:38

No snacking between meals.

Quit4me · 12/04/2021 14:39

Cut out all refined sugar!

LibbyL92 · 12/04/2021 15:03

I’ve tried every diet in the book.
Slimming world ect...

Low carb has worked for me. Lost 2 stone since jan. I feel loads better in myself too.

FindingMeno · 12/04/2021 15:05

If something works for you - then do that.
I did my own form of intermittent fasting years before it was a thing. Then we were advised to eat regularly because of your metabolism, and so I did, and put on weight.
Now I've realised I shouldn't listen to the latest 'do this, and don't do that's advice, because I know best what works for me.

RowanAlong · 12/04/2021 15:07

Carbs in the day, not with dinner. Eat early with kids and don’t eat again until latest breakfast you can logistically manage (8 in my case). Fitness walking video four times a week! It’s working for me!

FindingMeno · 12/04/2021 15:07

Oh, and think about all the lovely stuff you can eat, rather than focusing on what you can't eat - and change your motivation to health rather than looks.

RowanAlong · 12/04/2021 15:08

Sorry, should say, ‘eat early dinner with kids’

emilyjane29 · 12/04/2021 15:27

Oh have just put up my own post about weight loss, and then came across this.

Some really helpful tips here!

For those who do 16:8 - in the hours you are allowed to eat, do you have two meals or three?

IWentAwayIStayedAway · 12/04/2021 15:36

Consistency
15000 steps EVERY day
Track every meal. Stick to alloted calories EVERY day
80% of the good food and 20% crap allowed EVERY day

4 stone off in 9 months

TheTeaFairy · 12/04/2021 15:44

When you feel like snacking... clean your teeth. It makes food seem less appealing Smile

BurbageBrook · 12/04/2021 15:51

Sleep for me. I’ve lost weight in lockdown through sleeping longer hours at night and therefore not snacking much and having more energy for exercise.
Also limiting refined carbs.

stevematekatemate · 12/04/2021 16:01

Just eat a calorie deficit.

shakeitoffshakeacocktail · 12/04/2021 20:36

I allow everything in moderation but through personal choice the only liquids I drink are 1 Yakut a day, water and tea (no sugar) then like I said moderation. I try not to eat too much sugar, cheese and bread products but often do. I also eat small portions I am 5 foot always been small framed usually size 8. I have been bigger for longer twice size 10-12 bigger for me as I am short. Exercise and not wanting to waste the exercise by then binging had worked for me.

Carycy · 12/04/2021 21:46

Skip breakfast.

igotdemons · 12/04/2021 21:50

For me, just one thing - fasting. I’ve lost 5 stone in the last year from fasting, no calorie counting etc. and I’ve not deprived myself of anything. Also drinking 3 litres of water a day definitely helps things along...

Silvercatowner · 12/04/2021 21:56

No refined sugar. Slow but steady weight loss.

bellabride · 12/04/2021 22:00

Meal planning

ErleighBird · 12/04/2021 22:18

@ShirleyPhallus

Heavy weights, protein, steer well clear of faddy programmes like weight watchers and slimming world This person has made a mistake. It should be the opposite way round!

@81Byerley why do you think this? Do you think lifting weights is bad?

This has confused me - I thought @ShirleyPhallus was spot on!

flossletsfloss · 12/04/2021 22:26

Lift heavy weights, fill up on protein and skip dinner a few times a week although I only do that as I have a chocolate habit. I exercise a lot!

Cherrysoup · 12/04/2021 22:37

Write down absolutely everything you eat. Weigh everything. You need to be obsessive.

Ragwort · 12/04/2021 22:40

Eat less and only when you are hungry.

Not everyone needs three meals a day, find out what works for you.

StayingHere · 12/04/2021 23:25

emilyjane29 I have two normally. I find this is enough food for me but I have a busy job which takes my mind off food before lunch! At the weekends I am more relaxed, ie if we are going out for breakfast I will have something and enjoy it. But as my body is so used to this way of eating and the smaller number of calories if I have breakfast then I will unlikely be hungry for lunch and will just wait for dinner.

RubyFowler · 12/04/2021 23:29

For me, tracking everything on my fitness pal.

StayingHere · 12/04/2021 23:31

Interesting how some people can get away without weighing themselves at all. When I did this it was just a form of denial I think, if I didnt know my weight then it must be alright! When I finally got to it I was 76 kilos at 5'6 so it was time to address that. I now try and stay between 55-57 kilos and if I get towards the top of that I will eat a bit less for a few days, If I get towards the bottom I'll eat a bit more as I look a bit gaunt. I wouldn't be able to use this strategy of weight maintenance without a weekly weigh in.
Daily weighing was really useful when I was trying to lose the weight as I could track a general downwards trend, but I wouldn't both now as it would totally highlight my massive takeaway every weekend!
