I think im over shopping. The thought of queues and lots of people is very unappealing.

I'm not bothered either. I much prefer online shopping.

PicsInRed · 12/04/2021 14:38

The mall was fairly quiet for school holidays but the motorway south was absoutely heaving with caravans.

So I'm guessing everyone's in Devon & Cornwall. 😂

@actiongirl1978

I've just got back from the shops.

Pleasing improvements - no more one way systems in places like waterstones, could try on a the sunglasses in tkmaxx without having to put them in a quarantine afterwards. No queues in my cathedral city. Went in all the shops we wanted and not a single queue including primark.

It was joyful and other than masks felt totally normal.

And no social distancing to speak of.

Many won’t think that’s a pleasing improvement, SD is still in place and will be until it’s reviewed in June.
ChocOrange1 · 12/04/2021 14:46

Not too fussed about shops but I've booked lots of outdoor activities for my kids, swimming and a self catering cottage for next week :)

I'm not particularly into shopping anyway but the thought of no social distancing puts me right off. We still need to be careful. Vaccines mean we can start to get back to normality but covid hasn't gone away.
MrsBerthaRochester · 12/04/2021 15:31

I'm in Scotland so still a couple of weeks to wait here. I need stuff from Primark for DC's and I love to buy from charity shops so looking forward to that. Also booked a beer garden table with my best friend who I have seen three times in past year.

Well it’s definitely a pleasing improvement from my point of view - I was in Waterstone’s earlier too and agree it felt much more normal and pleasurable without being herded around pointless one way systems. Plenty of others will think the opposite though, which only goes to show how divided we are.

No queues in my town centre today, other than outside charity shops for some reason!

Me too. If the company isn’t enforcing SD and /or other safety measures then they will lose custom as some won’t feel safe and others will be worried for the staff etc.

Theimpossiblegirl · 12/04/2021 16:25

I took the dog for a lovely long walk, it was so quiet with everyone else at the shops.

userxx · 12/04/2021 16:26

@actiongirl1978 Brilliant news! Think I'll pop into my local town centre tomorrow, if it's as you described I'll be happy. Just need to lose the ridiculous masks now.

Mimilamore · 12/04/2021 16:32

Not appealing at all. There is nothing that I need so much that it is worth queuing for.
Like the idea of a pub garden but not in this weather... and actually my garden is nice and the drinks are cheaper....

fastandthecurious · 12/04/2021 16:35

I'm not bothered. Will nip up to primark when the chaos calms as I need some cheap nursery bits for DS and you really can't complain at the price. Everything else I've just been getting online as I normally would have before covid. I work in a supermarket though and I'm hoping it means we will be less busy for a while!

Whattheduck · 12/04/2021 17:03

No interest in it happy to continue shopping online if I need anything and venturing to the supermarket once a week to do my food shop.I’ve never been a shopper it’s not something I enjoy.

katy1213 · 12/04/2021 17:07

I'm pleased about bookshops - I'll probably make it to Hatchards later in the week.

katy1213 · 12/04/2021 17:08

And the charity shop next time I'm passing!

vinoandbrie · 12/04/2021 17:08

I really don’t like wearing a mask (obviously would never not wear one where one is required), so because of this I’m not chomping at the bit to get back into the shops.

3JsMa · 12/04/2021 17:48

Nope, not bothered at all.

hellcatspangle · 12/04/2021 18:27

I went today and there weren't any queues! Maybe everyone thought it would be too busy so didn't bother.

Bouledeneige · 12/04/2021 22:39

I went to a cafe for lunch today and then went to get some birthday cards and browse and buy a couple of books using a voucher. I also browsed in a couple of 'house and home' shops but didn't buy anything. I just went to the shops in walking distance of my house.

What a dickhead you are Grin

PatrickBatemann · 12/04/2021 22:50

But yeah, I can't wait to get to the shops; me and DH love a saunter round the charity shops and neither of us are on benefits

Each to their own. No need to call people 'saddos' or accuse them of being lazy, benefit scroungers.

Moonface123 · 12/04/2021 23:07

No, not interested. I use Amazon, Etsy and Ebay, as l did before Covid. I much prefer browsing online, than traipsing around the shops and then usually out of stock.
In no rush 're hairdressers either, l have long thick hair and used to trimming the ends and colouring myself, so much cheaper too.

Longdistance · 12/04/2021 23:21

I buy online. Since they closed my local M&S I’ve resorted to ordering to the food hall local to my work, and anything from JL to the Waitrose. My make up to the Boots and I buy lots from Zalando who do free delivery. I haven’t hit time to mooch in shops. I’m lucky as I rarely need to send stuff back.
I too am fed up of stuff being out of stock in store so online is the easier option. The ‘sorry, we don’t have that in stock’ line, followed by ‘you can order it online’. Maybe I’ll just buy it online in the first place.

TokyoSushi · 12/04/2021 23:23

I love shops and rushed out after the first lockdown but the queues/rules really put me off. I'm waiting until it settles down a bit this time.

TheChosenTwo · 12/04/2021 23:47

No shopping for me, I was never one for browsing the shops as a leisure activity before Covid though. This past year we’ve managed just fine with online, I can’t see it changing for me.
I’m not keen on queueing for bugger all at the best of times to be honest, and wearing a mask with glasses I’ve found to be quite unpleasant in general when I’ve had to use a shop.
