Job I applied to has been re-advertised

Assume it's because the company hasn't received as many suitable applicants as they would have hoped. I am experienced and fit the person specification, so surprised I have not been invited for an interview.

Has this happened to anyone on here, who still went on to get the job?

They may be looking for a larger pool of applicants and/or they may have decided that you are not what they are looking for. It could also be that the ads are being run by an agency who will keep advertising until their client eventually fills the position.

My best advice is to forget about it. If you get hung up on every job you apply for you will drive yourself nuts. Job hunting can be stressful but only if you make it stressful for yourself. Put them to the back of your mind and focus on getting applications in for other vacancies. If they're going to contact you they will, whether you dwell on it or not.

I was in that situation and whilst I didn’t get the job, I did get an interview. So, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’ve ruled you out.

hellcatspangle · 10/04/2021 15:46

Dd was applying for jobs last summer that she appeared to fit the spec for perfectly, didn't get an interview and they were readvertised a month later 🤷🏼‍♀️

They may have had someone join that has left. If it’s your perfect job reapply. Otherwise don’t dwell on it.

This happened to me, I'd had a really good conversation with the recruiter (line manager) of the role and submitted my application confident I'd get an interview. I never heard back so was really disappointed, and then devastated to see it re-advertised. I contacted the recruiter to say I'd really like to apply again and was there anything about my application I could approve on, and it turned out my application was never forwarded on to him by HR, he had specifically asked them if I'd applied after our conversation and they said no....so I reapplied and got the job, thank goodness I enquired because that job completely changed my life! No harm asking for the status of your application in light of the re-advertisement.

folloyourarro · 10/04/2021 15:54

Improve not approve!

JobHunting10 · 10/04/2021 15:56

folloyourarro wow well done for following up!

@JobHunting10

Apply again.

SarahBellam · 10/04/2021 15:59

If it’s an agency many of them are using AI to screen applicants to make sure you look carefully at the job and person spec, pick out the key words, and directly use them in your application.

JobHunting10 · 10/04/2021 16:10

I should clarify sorry it isn't being advertised by an agency and I applied directly through the company website. There is a careers portal where I can track my application and it currently says that it's being reviewed by a recruiter from HR and it usually takes two weeks (it's been 8 days).

As TooTrueToBeGood says, I shouldn't dwell on it - I'll hear one way or another soon. I have a feeling they haven't received many applicants. I could see from the LinkedIn ads that not many (below 10) had applied. Also, while I am very experienced in my role, I am still fairly new to this industry, so that may be working against me.

folloyourarro · 10/04/2021 16:16

Well I wouldn't panic too much as they have it so that's a start lol, I imagine they haven't received enough interviewable candidates so have extended, doesn't mean you aren't one of them!

SpringTimeDream · 10/04/2021 16:24

Yes, around 8 years ago now I applied for a term time job I really wanted, was qualified to do and had previous experience for. The interviewer seem to take a dislike to me (or she was particularly nasty to everyone, who knows). The interview went well and I past the test that were set beforehand.

I didn't get the job. It was re-advertised and my SIL applied and got it with very little experience and no qualification (same money). She managed 2 weeks and was struggling terribly and it appear she had exaggerated her experience etc. She went off sick after 3 weeks just didn't understand the system etc and they needed someone to walk straight in and get on with it without training, she then left. They had to advertise for a 3 time..... brilliant Grin

I found another job that was really suitable so thought it was quite fitting.

ornge · 10/04/2021 16:40

This happened to me in August. I applied to a sportswear brand for a perm wfh role and didn’t hear anything for months and it went up again. I received a random phone call in m&s a few months later and after a few interviews for the job.

I think it’s best to forget about it and keep applying for jobs. I think many employers do want more applicants or a larger pool for whatever reason.

Good luck and I hope you do hear something though! Smile

Got the job not for the job !!

I've had this happen - didn't hit the "buzz" words in the cover letter so my application was screened out in the first round by the electronic screening tool.

Asked what they were and reapplied again - got through but took another job.

waitingpatientlyforspring · 10/04/2021 16:44

We have done this before but usually contact applicants to say their applications will be held until after the job closes. Although it is usually because the application(s) received are not very strong.

GoWalkabout · 10/04/2021 16:45

I would definitely ring and show interest.

HotChoc10 · 10/04/2021 16:46

This happened to both me and DH in our current jobs and we both ended up with them!

JobHunting10 · 10/04/2021 16:48

HotChoc10 Why did it happen to you and your DH? Any idea?

OP posts:
AnaViaSalamanca · 10/04/2021 16:50

Just apply again and contact them. It happens at my firm sometimes. They applications pile up when HR is busy and doesn’t make sense for them to go and look through old applications (don’t ask me why). So they just repost to get new applicants.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 10/04/2021 16:51

Came on to say similar.

Even when applications are being screened by a person, sometimes if you don’t explicitly say how you meet each of the essential criteria, you won’t be shortlisted. Even if your other experience would indicate that you do have the necessary skills, you really need to refer to the job description fairly closely for some employers.

JobHunting10 · 10/04/2021 17:06

Oh I've just noticed a similar but more junior job has been re-advertised which I also applied to last week. Maybe this is a tactic to keep applications coming in while shortlisting and interviewing takes place. Or as discussed maybe not enough suitable applicants were received for this role either.

OP posts:
Squidelicious · 10/04/2021 17:13

So you applied for a Senior role and a Junior role? Do you expect them to give you a senior role after applying for the junior one?

You've basically told them you have senior skills but are willing to work at the junior rate!
