The BBC have been overwhelmed with complaints about coverage of Prince Philip

Showing the same thing on 2 channels simultaneously.

Now you just enter your email to complain as they couldn’t cope with the amount of complaints.

Of course! I'm always up for a good discussion. Other people's views are interesting, as hearing them challenges me to examine my own views Smile

Imsosorryalan75 · 10/04/2021 18:39

Whilst the coverage has been tiresome, what I take most offence against is the media/bbc now portraying him as the backbone of the queen's decisions and 'allowing' her to govern or guiding any major decisions she has made. Ffs, shes in charge, he wasnt. They cant seem to accept that a woman can and does lead the monarch. Let's not suddenly forget how sexist and mysoginistic he came across as, on numerous occasions.

Iwantacookie · 10/04/2021 18:40

I turned off yesterday after about an hour because they were saying the same thing and showing the same clips every 20 minutes.
I'm certainly not going to complain but I dont see why it needs to be on 4 different bbc channels. Even if it had just taken over bbc1 that would of been enough imho.

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

Yeah we have a constitutional monarchy and..,,.?

I know what ( little) they do. However even though l know nothing about how the country is governed, l do know we don’t have a written constitution, it’s based on tradition, which is why Brexit kept going to the High Court.

Just because l don’t want a monarchy doesn’t mean l don’t understand it. And l understand it is pointless and outdated.

I wasn't talking to you. Unless you're sock-puppeting!

Assuming you're referring to my post which was specifically aimed at another poster who was being spectacularly dim!

Thewithesarehere · 10/04/2021 18:45

@NoWordForFluffy

Just because there isn't a written constitution, doesn't mean that there aren't principles that are followed in how the country is governed, *@Thewithesarehere*. You're coming across as rather sodding clueless as to how this country is run. See: definition 1.

We have a a Constitutional Monarchy.

OP has written what I would have so that is covered. We have a constitution that protects feudals, both modern and capitalist. What makes you think that, once kicked out of their kingdoms beyond (read colonies), they didn’t turn on their own people? They did, hence the concentration of half of U.K. land in the hands of 1%, in the top of which is queen (that is just the wealth that is declared).
Thewithesarehere · 10/04/2021 18:47

I meant to write ‘both modern and traditional’. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I dread to think what will happen when the Queen dies. That really is going to interfere with people’s TV and radio habits. Just think. No Corrie or EastEnders or reality shows for probably a couple of days. The funeral coverage will be a real nuisance won’t it? Those complaining should perhaps look beyond their own narrow lives. Is this what we’ve become as a nation?
How does watching a funeral and taking part in a competitive grieving wankathon make one's life less narrow?
Blah1881 · 10/04/2021 19:14

I complained. I was livid yesterday and still fuming today. I do not like to be controlled and told how to feel. I listen to radio 6 every day while I work and even they had to tow the line. It’s too much, and it’s propaganda, which has no place in our society. BBC 1 and radio 4 could have done all the coverage and left us with a choice.

TempsPerdu · 10/04/2021 19:22

On reflection I wonder whether our experiences with the pandemic might be feeding into this too. We’ve been so controlled for the past year through endless government propaganda and restrictions, and the blanket repetitive coverage - propaganda of a different sort - just adds to the general sense that we have no autonomy. So many people are at the end of their tether with it all.

You're not being told how to feel Confused If you don't care, turn off the main TV channels and watch Prime or Netflix. If you don't have those read a book, listen to music, watch YouTube, go out for a walk / run.

Livid and fuming seems an excessive response to what's on the TV or radio.

MarshaBradyo · 10/04/2021 19:29

listen to music

The poster was listening to music.

I’m pleased to see other annoyed Radio 6 listeners. I’m willing to bet the majority who use the station really aren’t the demographic for royal noise and the dirge we had as a result.

Indeed, there is definitely a sense of the "oh, you can all fuck right off" about the public's reaction.

The government - actually, the entire establishment - would do well to pay attention and placate accordingly.

lljkk · 10/04/2021 19:31

On a positive note, the complaints show that there is still huge demand for broadcast TV & radio. So those things may have a tremendous reliable future. People don't want to have to rely on catchup & iplayer & so on for their viewing pleasure.

Blah1881 · 10/04/2021 19:32

Tempsperdu you may have a point. It feels eery to me, the repetition of this message (time to grieve) and the assumption that we will all participate. It feels insincere too. I have been on board with all the lockdown stuff and am no conspiracy theorist- but with this coverage you do wonder who decides, and why?

Not to mention we’ve had daily death figures for a year which has a depressing and suppressing affect.

This focussed media switch to one person is too much atm for many.

We are being told how to feel. Pretty much every media outlet is telling us we’re in mourning. Twitter is full of trite sentiments from ministers and public figures telling us the same. There are billboards with Philip’s face on in the street and at bus stops. It’s even plastered all over the John Lewis home page. Hundreds of paying visitors who had tried to go for a walk were turfed out of RHS gardens yesterday.

Why should those of us who aren’t interested be forced to shut out the world and actively seek out stuff that isn’t bloody Philip related?

You did have a choice though, we all did. There were plenty of channels with other stuff on.

I don't understand being 'livid' and 'fuming' about something like this, it's over the top to be so concerned about one evening's television.

This will soon be yesterday's news. There is hardly anything about him on TV tonight; I did note there will be an episode of 'The House of Windsor' on channel 4 at 8pm which does centre on Prince Philip but you don't have to watch it; it clashes with 'Casualty'. I've seen it before and found it very interesting, may watch it again and catch up with Casualty later.

Honestly, get a life.

MarshaBradyo · 10/04/2021 19:36

Jesstan the poster was working and listening to music not watch TV

At least read the post before being insulting

TempsPerdu · 10/04/2021 19:38

Can’t decide it it’s more reminiscent of North Korea or Blade Runner.

Was I insulting? I've re-read my post and didn't mean to be. I 'get' the poster was listening to radio 6 whilst working but there are other channels, that was my point, plus the fact that the interest in the Duke of Edinburgh is not going to be a long term thing.
MarshaBradyo · 10/04/2021 19:51

Jesstan it’s nice that you didn’t mean to be but don’t you think ‘get a life’ is a bit uncalled for?

I have sympathy with anyone who works and relies on radio. I do too.

Sadsiblingatsea · 10/04/2021 19:56

People who complain obviously have far too much time on their hands.
I doubt it was that many - some sort of BBC agenda no doubt.

Cookerhood · 10/04/2021 20:09

What, not many complaining? They will publish the numbers.
