The BBC have been overwhelmed with complaints about coverage of Prince Philip

Showing the same thing on 2 channels simultaneously.

Now you just enter your email to complain as they couldn’t cope with the amount of complaints.

I dread to think what will happen when the Queen dies. That really is going to interfere with people’s TV and radio habits. Just think. No Corrie or EastEnders or reality shows for probably a couple of days. The funeral coverage will be a real nuisance won’t it?
Those complaining should perhaps look beyond their own narrow lives. Is this what we’ve become as a nation?

cateycloggs · 10/04/2021 16:39

@Topseyt

Oh and no, I still wouldn't bother complaining. It is history in the making. After a while it will start to repeat though so no further need to watch.
I am curious, Topseyt, others also keep saying this, how is it history in the making? Prince Philip completed his main task in providing heirs, there are now 3 main ones living. It was up to him what else he did and he did various fulfilling things which may or may not last. He modernised the royal family but it cannot be otherwise than antiquated by nature. He made the commitment to keep it going by marrying the then heir, Princess Elizabeth. That could be described as an historical decision, maybe?

America has a President. It also has hundreds of thousands of homeless people living in tent cities.

@Tealightsandd
I think there are still lots of families, some that I know of, who keep a tv license and I suspect it’s more out of habit than anything else. Looking at my household’s tv habits of the last ten years, we have quite literally wasted nearly 99% of that money.

Roussette · 10/04/2021 16:41

@TooOldandTired
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Smile

Gone are the days when the nation would wear black and not go out for weeks because a member of RF has died at a grand old age. Times they have a'changed and so they should.

Yes and two wrongs make one right and 2+2 shouldn’t be have to be 4. Great argument...

Yes it will. I'm dreading it already. Oh, you were being sarcastic weren't you.

What exactly has that got to do with the fact that America has a president? Nothing, that's what!
JustJustWhy · 10/04/2021 16:44

Just read this from a link upthread. It's about the upheaval planned for the country following the hallowed PROTOCOL when the Queen dies...

"But to focus on the financial disruption doesn't begin to describe the sheer magnitude of the queen's death. It will be an event unlike anything Britain has seen since the end of World War II"

...except now we've had a global pandemic. Would it really be wise to close the stock exchange to 'mourn'?

You mean the kind of nation who should be happy to live in cramped, unaffordable houses, with 3 hours of daily commute, while an unelected feudal lords over them?
Tealightsandd · 10/04/2021 16:45

@Thewithesarehere
It's not about two wrongs. I'm pointing out having a republic won't make a difference to the housing crisis. A government with decent housing policy would but that's not happened for 40 years.

Tootyfilou · 10/04/2021 16:45

So did millions of other people. Its just happenstance he was educated in Britain or he would have been in the Nazi Party like his sisters husbands.
I genuinely pity people like you who are unable to critically think and question the narrative we are fed by the ruling class.

TBH if it should happen this year and all the nonsense about shutting shops, stopping holidays happens then I think there will be severe backlash. Quite rightly.

Did you even bother to google anything on the land hoarders of the U.K.?
I not only think that the royal family is pointless, I think they are actually usurpers of resources that belong to the people of this country.

Roussette · 10/04/2021 16:50

@mermaidsariel

It will be nothing to do with missing Corrie or Eastenders. Have a read of this...

I saw two different programmes about Prince Philip yesterday and both were extremely interesting, one I might watch again which was on Channel 4 in the afternoon.

Perhaps less is more. The BBC programme last night was way more personal and interesting than the preceding hours of wall to wall coverage.

PathOfLeastResitance · 10/04/2021 16:52

I agree with the complaints.
The TV scheduling has become more important to me over the last year and I missed one of the few things I look forward to due to this coverage.
Brilliant people who have altered society for the better die every day. He was a man who took a job with the best ever imaginable perks and then wasn’t that great at it during my life time. Turn up, shake hands, try not to be a fool (failed many times). I found him an embarrassment and a racist. Televise a little programme about his life on one channel and move on.

waitingpatientlyforspring · 10/04/2021 16:52

I have no problems with all the coverage however, if bbc really were showing exactly the same thing on both channels at the same time that is completely out of order. We are held to ransom paying their license fee - they need to work for they money. BBC one coverage would be enough.

Tealightsandd · 10/04/2021 16:53

I feel sad that some people lack the critical thinking to realise that having a republic would make sod all difference or improvement to their lives @Tootyfilou
Actually, no, it might make their lives worse if a dictatorship took over.

I enjoy history and I have the upmost respect for all of the Duke's generation who saw active service (and those who played their equally important roles on the home front).

MrsBobDylan · 10/04/2021 16:53

I honestly can't cope - it's not just the tv stations it's every single radio station too. I've just spent 20 mins In the Co Op listening to soupy, sad music and then to 'My heart will go on' on the car radio, which, thank fuck, I could switch off.

They were. It was mildly irritating because I wanted to watch Gardeners World. But not really that important in the grand scheme of things.

Yes they were. For over 9 hours.

Tealightsandd · 10/04/2021 16:54

You're deluded if you think having a republic will make any difference to the housing crisis @Thewithesarehere

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 10/04/2021 16:55

I admire the the Queen and Prince Phillip but it was all too much for me as well.

MrsBobDylan · 10/04/2021 16:55

And I do have a narrow life because I can't afford 'owt else.
