The BBC have been overwhelmed with complaints about coverage of Prince Philip

Showing the same thing on 2 channels simultaneously.

Now you just enter your email to complain as they couldn’t cope with the amount of complaints.

@trappedsincesundaymorn I'm so sorry for your losses Flowers

Fuckingcrustybread · 10/04/2021 14:09

@bonfireheart

I don't have access to BBC and don't pay a TV licence. But would be annoyed if I paid and was shown the same thing on both channels.
You must love Pointless then, it's just like your post
Turtletortle · 10/04/2021 14:10

Imagine being that pressed that you’d make a complaint ffs Hmm

Watch something else. I can go days, sometimes weeks without putting on the BBC or any of their various channels, because there’s nothing on I fancy watching. Should I be up in arms because I pay my licence fee for shite TV most of the time? No, because it really is of little to no consequence in the grand scheme of things and frankly I couldn’t give a toss.

For many older people, TV/radio is their lifeline. And no, they don't have catchup and they only watch the first 4/5 channels. So it is meaningful to many, even if you want to sneer at the losers who just want to watch the soaps.

History in the making, my arse.

Norwaydidnthappen · 10/04/2021 14:12

Glad people have complained. They did this for the Queen Mother too but that was 20 years ago, the world has moved on now and the Royal family just aren’t as important.

DelBocaVista · 10/04/2021 14:12

@Roussette

How ridiculous of you to complain

Don't be embarrassed for the huge amount of people who complained. So many they had to set up a unique webpage. So the OP is not on her own

Unfortunately they aren't on their own.

It is a ridiculous thing to complain about and to be proudly declaring you complained even though you watched something else adds another level of ridiculousness.

We have a monarchy - like it or not, that is a fact. They are part of our history and our heritage and that's important.

Although, I seem to remember threads about people complaining about the VE Day coverage last year. Some people just love to complain. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Roussette · 10/04/2021 14:12

Exactly this.

Quaagars · 10/04/2021 14:12

I’d have thought most people have Freeview now. You don’t need to pay for the likes of Sky or Netflix to have other options

Exactly
Back in the day (1997) lol it really was wall to wall coverage, every channel as you only really had BBC1, 2, ITV, C4 and think 5 had just started up then)
that was your lot unless you paid for Sky.
Everyone has some sort of Freeview now and yesterday you could at least console yourself with classic Emmerdale or Come Dine With Me if it all got too much Grin

BiBabbles · 10/04/2021 14:12

If people want to complain as part of a campaign to change the protocols around this or to challenge the BBC's recent behaviour, fair enough. I'm neither embarrassed or proud, it's just kinda a 'oh, that's a thing' and moved along, but for those who feel strongly about it, I'm glad there are ways they can make their voice heard and spaces to talk about it. It'd be great if this could be part of a larger discussion on systemic changes since so many have had an issue with it.

I personally don't get the whole complaining about the license fee as if that means they need to cater to all of us all the time when they obviously don't and I'm not sure that's the ideal. It is possible that this could spur looking into other models for a public broadcaster if there is a strong enough desire for the BBC to change (as long as it isn't the US model, especially if you want consistency and not having the schedule thrown off regularly - PBS can be great, but consistency isn't part of it).

PandoraP · 10/04/2021 14:12

Not surprised. Dreading the Queen dying for this reason. Luckily I have Netflix.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 10/04/2021 14:14

@Quaagars

I'm not a Royalist or anything, but seriously, what do people expect?! He's a senior Royal, it's to be expected. It was exactly the same when Princess Diana died, wall to wall coverage, I'm old enough to remember it well - so what's different this time? Bloody social media, far more easy for everyone to whinge and moan lol
Totally agree.
Roussette · 10/04/2021 14:14

Eh?

Where did I post I complained and watched something else?

I think you have the wrong poster @DelBocaVista

How patronising. They do not just have five channels - nobody does. You have Freeview, Youview or Freesat now with tens of channels.

And there are loads of commercial radio stations.

And a lot of people in that demographic might have wanted to watch the coverage anyway.

I didn't say you did. I was referring to other posts on this thread. Apologies if that wasn't clear.
EwwSprouts · 10/04/2021 14:16

People just like to complain. They could mutter to themselves for one day if they're not interested but no it needs an official complaint.

itsgettingwierd · 10/04/2021 14:16

@CatherineMorland

So sad that people couldn’t cope with an afternoon off TV to honour a man who devoted his life to public service.
Totally.

Also surprised that people didn't realise the British Broadcasting company would devote one afternoon to broadcasting a major British event - death of a monarchy. Especially the Queens husband.

Watch another channel or watch BBC iplayer if you must watch the BBC. 🤷‍♀️

MarshaBradyo · 10/04/2021 14:17

Fine if people want to complain. Clearly it’s not that wanted by all.

Roussette · 10/04/2021 14:17

Call it patronising if you want. It isn't. A lot of people in that demographic might not have wanted to watch the coverage just before bedtime.

As I have said before the 90 year old I speak to probably doesn't even know freeview exists and I'll ask her tomorrow when we have out chat.

blowinahoolie · 10/04/2021 14:18

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

So sad that people pay a license fee to watch channels totally dominated by something they may have no interest in.
This.
1forAll74 · 10/04/2021 14:18

So shocking that so many people found the need to complain about the TV coverage of the Dukes death yesterday,.Not to just complain to themselves, but to actually write in to the BBC.. Do these mindless people , sit watching a TV all day and everyday,and can't live without their usual appetite of daytime telly stuff.

Angel2702 · 10/04/2021 14:18

It is a long established protocol that this would happen, people have known for years that when a senior Royal dies this is what happens. With the amount of other tv options I’m sure people can manage for a one off.

Roussette · 10/04/2021 14:19

@DelBocaVista, No problem, and thanks! Sometimes the quoting on here messes with my head Grin

whatisthislifesofullofcare · 10/04/2021 14:19

Plus can’t those offended by emotion perhaps do something else? Like go for a walk/bake banana bread/do the ironing/read a magazine/have a bath/call a friend? Its only a day. Good grief.

duodunical · 10/04/2021 14:20

I like watching the news channels, but nothing else in the world happened yesterday apparently.

To be fair to Prince Philip, he was well known for hating a fuss, I don't think he would have been happy with the ridiculous amount of coverage. The same stuff, over and over again.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/04/2021 14:20

Who set the protocol up and when was it set up?

In the 1940’s?
