Are garden centres open?

Sorry, I know it will have many aghast that I don't know! But everywhere seems to be click and collect only, so I'm wondering about garden centres (England).

Yes, they've been open for months.

RampantIvy · 09/04/2021 13:54

Yes. They have been open all through this lockdown.

DurhamDurham · 09/04/2021 13:55

Our local Dobbies has been open throughout, wouldn't like to admit how many hours we've spent there over lockdown.

MogHog · 09/04/2021 13:58

Some of ours are open and some click and collect only so best checking with your local centres

campion · 09/04/2021 14:00

They never closed round here (West Midlands) thankfully.

Our local Dobbies sell food from Sainsbury's hence being allowed to stay open.
moochingtothepub · 09/04/2021 14:19

Miljea · 09/04/2021 14:22

Our local big Tesco is next to a big garden centre and must have had certain covenants applied when planning permission was granted because they do not sell anything that might tread on the garden centre’s business - so not only no gardening equipment, plants, or cut flowers, but also no Christmas decorations, trees etc. I have often wondered how unusual this is.

So what you actually want us to tell you is whether your local garden centre has choosen to open.

How can we possibly do that? Confused

Are the phone lines down where you are Grin

Might be worth giving Bing a go

RampantIvy · 09/04/2021 14:37

You could post on your local Facebook page or NextDoor. Sometimes social media sites are a useful mine of information.

It's actually in the legislation that garden centres can open like DIY, pet shops etc it's nothing at all to do with what they sell. My local one sells all kinds of stuff and has been a real boon for things like kitchen items and nice greetings cards

Not him. That bunny is a prize twat.

Well, went for a drive! My local non-updated website garden centre is click and collect. 🙄 And won't allow you to order any order under £10...

The next (rather further) was 100% open. When I got home, I checked their website, for stock on something that took my eye but needs a bit more research. Says that Covid restrictions mean they're closed....

So you can be as smartarse as you like, some posters. Transpires there's no 'just Google it', eh?

Bluebird2021 · 09/04/2021 21:21

what are you looking to buy op?

ive got some great stuff (trailing plants for baskets too) seeds, different composts and feeds a Daphne and clematis, patio roses and early geraniums....all from local B&Q

Bluebird2021 · 09/04/2021 21:22

and b and q compost is peat frees i'd rather buy that

8dpwoah · 09/04/2021 21:23

Well, if you Google, you're highly likely to find links to their social media too which are also much more likely to be up to date as they'll probably manage that themselves rather than outsourcing it to a website company. Try it, you might like it.

Cookerhood · 09/04/2021 21:25

We did most of our Christmas shopping at our local garden centre - lots of gifts etc as well as garden stuff & a pet area.

You can't enter my local B and Q, it's all click and collect. And- their website has gone offline 'due to unprecedented demand for click and collect'. Genuinely.

Hence why, for the first time in months in needing what I'm looking for, I thought I'd have to look further afield!
