Any one know about cats?

My garden is just covered in cat shit.
Especially one section.
iIs there anything that they hate, that would repel them from doing this?
It’s not somewhere in can plant something, so I’m thinking a powder or some such that I can regularly put down.

It stinks to high heaven, they have not done anything to cover it, it’s just there, on my grass bold as brass.
Cats are bastards in these parts.

There is only one sure fire way to stop this. Get a big alpha male cat. British Blue are the best for this. Nothing else really works.

otterbaby · 09/04/2021 06:39

Supposedly they hate the smell of citrus so orange peel scattered about might work. But a lot of them don't care. Might be worth a try though!

imaginethemdragons · 09/04/2021 06:43

Absolutely not.
Can you not tell from my post my exceptional dislike for cats!
Getting one is an absolute no.

Orange peel! Really!
We have put a roll of spikes (marketed as cat repellent) down the side of the garage as that’s where they did go, but can’t do this on the grass as it would break my mower. They can’t walk on it so it works well.

You can buy things you put in the grass that make noise that drives cats off.
If not I think you can buy cat repellent powder from places like Wilko.

SheeshazAZ09 · 09/04/2021 06:58

You can get spikes that you put on the top of your fence to stop them coming into your garden.

Sprinkle where they go and where you don’t want them. Repeat after heavy rain.

cheeseychovolate · 09/04/2021 07:41

There was a spray that smelt of garlic that discourages cats, Wilkos used to sell it, don't know if they still do.

Topbird29 · 09/04/2021 07:49

Lion poo pellets are meant to be a deterrent. Although am cat owner, so never tried them. Water pistols are a non harmful way to scare them off if you see them.

DancesWithDaffodils · 09/04/2021 07:49

The beepy deterant things - but only if you dont have kids. The neighbours have one and it drives my kids demented, as they can hear it too. Stopped all their cat problems tho.

Howzaboutye · 09/04/2021 07:56

Cinnamon powder sprinkled on the area and around it.
Plus a super soaker, squirt the cats when you see them.
They will learn to go elsewhere!

PyjamasOClock · 09/04/2021 08:01

Just as a comment the garlic stuff really smells! My aunt helped me plant a herb garden and boycat decided it was the only place other than the litter tray he'd poo. Put the garlic stuff down... and couldn't bear sitting in the garden for a week of so!

Adult male urine is supposed to help for the same reason the lion one does - makes the cat think it's not top dog, er, cat, anymore. But a water pistol is probably best, mine would learn quickly with that.

Kotatsu · 09/04/2021 08:06

I tried all the powders, scented oils etc. when cats used to poo right outside my kitchen window - and had no luck.

The only success I had was camping there with a water pistol and squirting them every time I saw them for a couple of weeks (!) until they'd found a new favourite place to poo, and washing off the pavement there so it didn't smell familiar any more (not something you can do in a garden...

RandomMess · 09/04/2021 08:13

A water sprinkler with motion sensor.

TimeForLunch · 09/04/2021 08:24

Are you sure it's not foxes? Cats usually bury their poo.

MaudesMum · 09/04/2021 08:25

Cat lover but also gardener here. Water sprinkler with motion sensor is a great idea. Also if its one particular area, I'd make it as difficult as possible for them to lower their little furry arses to the ground.
Cuttings from bushes (preferably spiky) all over the ground, pea sticks stuck into the ground pointing upwards, netting a few inches off the ground - that sort of thing. And, I have indoor litter trays for my cats - its the neighbours' cats who make a beeline for my veg patch!

MaudesMum · 09/04/2021 08:27

@TimeForLunch Some cats do, some don't! I have two - one always leaves her offerings on the surface of her litter tray. The other buries so deeply you have to excavate to find them!

Kotatsu · 09/04/2021 08:27

I think it depends on the cat - my boy cat usually buries his, but girl cat just does it on top of the litter/in the ditch at the side of the garden and leaves it.

rainbowthoughts · 09/04/2021 08:30

My neighbours cats don't. Well one of them does, in my flowerbed. The other one just squats by the bottom of the tree, shits then walks away as bold as brass. It's really frustrating because DD used to like climbing said tree but we now have cat shit to deal with so I don't let her near it.

thelegohooverer · 09/04/2021 08:42

A motion sensor sprinkler is your best bet if it’s cats. If it’s foxes they won’t care.

Dodie66 · 09/04/2021 08:52

Get some of these. We had the same problem and these work www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01ID8T3IK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8. Just need to check they are working and recharge batteries every so often

WinoLino · 09/04/2021 09:40

My mum had this issue, tried everything and has had complete success with one of the high pitched sound things from Amazon. It's solar powered and can be charged and she swears by it!

PippinStar · 09/04/2021 09:48

Coffee grounds are meant to help, but not sure if they really do. Worth a try though! Failing that, I’d probably just go with a motion sprinkler like others have recommended.

Apparently, cats learn very quickly that a human controls a water pistol so they’ll just go when you’re not around (although I see this has worked for a pp - maybe be it depends on the cat. Mine is such a stubborn shit he’d take great pleasure in outwitting someone like this).

I looked at these but have concerns about the noise upsetting the neighbour on the other sides pets

Dodie66 · 09/04/2021 09:53

They are only triggered when an animal comes into your garden. They don’t stay on all the time. What pets do your neighbours have
