I always feel bad for the unpopular pots in the drawer that only get used maybe twice a year.

I've got a small pile of cookery books I was given as Christmas or birthday presents. I don't like them, have never used them- but I can't bring myself to give them away (yet).

I've moved them into the garage because I felt guilty but now I feel worse.

When lorries/vans have a teddy or stuff animal strapped to the front grill. Makes me feel sad for them.

35andThriving · 08/04/2021 14:09

Teddies in charity shops....I end up buying a lot of them because of it.

Mine is a mahogany unit that I have my tv on. Its the first piece of furniture I acquired after my divorce. Someone gave it to me as I was pretty down and out. So it was my very first 'own' piece of furniture that ex had no part in.

I have repainted my lounge and it just doesn't match my other furniture. I don't want to paint it as it think its worth a fair bit. Up until now my lounge rearranging and other furniture have revolved around this one piece. Now am looking to buy a proper tv unit, and I am so heavy hearted about this unit leaving the house...

I think I will put it into the annex at the back of the house, but it's huge and won't fit in well there. But then I will still have it. And its a parting in progress....

I cannot believe I have become so attached to something that just sits there taking up space. And isn't overly lovely either.....

For me it's vegetables. If I'm cutting cherry tomatoes to go in a salad, I arrange a tea towel to cover those who haven't been cut up yet, so they don't have to "see" what's in store for them. I'm sure they can sense it, though.

A previous car that got written off by a brain-dead idiot. Smashed up beyond any hope of repair. We loved that car - he was a car with a name and a personality.

Our toilet.

I love this! Grin

I don’t like seeing teddies upside down or facing the wrong way in toy shops as they can’t see what’s going on, so will face them forwards if I have a spare minute!

DH won’t throw old toothbrushes away as he feels sorry for them-like they’ve given him the best years (months!) and he doesn’t want to just cast them aside! They become ‘tap and cooker scrubbers’ for a while till I bin them!

36degrees · 08/04/2021 14:27

Sani bin.

RulerForRuler · 08/04/2021 14:28

Isthismylifenow could you advertise the TV stand and give it away to somebody who is also setting up home on their own? I think some women's charities take furniture to give to women who are fleeing abuse. Maybe your TV stand could be a symbol of hope and freedom to another woman.

I felt sorry for all of the school uniform that was never worn last academic year. Both my DC moved to new schools this September, so I tried to give away as much uniform as possible. It seemed so sad that it was supposed to keep them warm and dry during all of their adventures learning and playing but was never given the chance.

isthismylifenow · 08/04/2021 14:30

What about a good jar. I cannot part with those.

I have loads of Douwe Egberts jars under my sink. I will find a use for every one of them. One day. They look so empty and sad on the bottom shelf, missing their label.

WithIcePlease · 08/04/2021 14:31

The dishwasher and washing machine when DC come home
They go from alternate days or twice a week to at least twice a day
I talk to them

MondayYogurt · 08/04/2021 14:32

Dead batteries.

tweettweettweettweet · 08/04/2021 14:34

The discounted flowers in supermarkets that have been reduced. Will they ever get to live in a home?
Also at Christmas time, I feel sorry for the Christmas tree that don't get bought. All unloved and I decorated out in the cold.

Dd and I take photos of odd shoes and send them to each other.
It's from a 1D song.
"Walking round with just one shoe, I'm half a heart without you"
Naf I know, but we've done it for years.[/quote]
That's not naf, it's really lovely

Puffinhead · 08/04/2021 14:39

Not inanimate exactly but I always feel sorry for trees that are planted along motorways/middle of roundabouts and very urbane areas with lots of buildings etc. If I were a tree I’d like to be in the countryside!

BendyLikeBeckham · 08/04/2021 14:41

Vintage, collector or antique toys that are in pristine condition. Worse still, in their original unopened boxes. I see them on ebay and in those collectible/antiques shops.

Nobody played with them or loved them. They never fulfilled their purpose and now they just represent £££. Makes me really sad.

I much prefer a loved and played with old toy which is worthless and falling apart. Even if it has to be thrown away eventually, it lived a good life.

The Repair Shop. I blame you.

That reminds of of my lovely, empathetic niece who, as a pre-teen, told me about a rather complicated ritual involving the eating of her Christmas chocolate Santa. She had to turn around the other chocolates (reindeer, snowmen, etc) to face the wall, so as to prevent them being traumatised by the brutal death of their beloved friend. In addition, she began by quickly biting off Santa’s head to ensure a swift and humane death, allowing her to savour the rest of his body more slowly without being overly plagued by guilt.

All of the chocolates were afforded the same dignified end.

The couple of beans that are always left in the tin when you empty it into the pan.

They’ve all been together since being canned, chatting in the dark, forming bonds, on their epic adventure from lorry to shop to home then at the climactic moment... Wait! You missed us! What?! Too late. You get binned with the tin.

I can’t bear it and I always make sure every last one goes on the final push.

PeskyRooks · 08/04/2021 15:16

@IHaveBrilloHair
Haha! That's brilliant!

JaneJeffer · 08/04/2021 15:34

Lids getting separated from their bottles/jars for recycling.

YouTediousShit · 08/04/2021 15:40

@fairydustandpixies

The last baked bean in the tin that you spot when the rest are all heated up.
I came on to say exactly that!! It's bothered me all my life, that those left behind beans never get to fulfil their destiny. I'm super careful to scrape every single one into the pan for some reason I've never given a shiny shite about the ones that might get left on the plate uneaten
YouTediousShit · 08/04/2021 15:45

OMG @YoniAndGuy I've just noticed your post too. That's exactly how I feel. I've told so many people in my life, but nobody ever admitted to feeling the same.
